This pretty much sums up Gordon's dvd on the back. All the other 7h 50 minutes is just applying this concept in a particular order of steps.

Thank you man, so much content to go through. Especially since they average 8h in length.

@@BjorsN yeah man there's so much information you don't even know where to start.
I genuinely believe they make it about 8 hours so they can sell more. Nobody remembers step by step every position in jiu jitsu, it's impossible.
Are the instructionals worth it? Yeah. Could they be cheaper and 1-2h long? Also yeah.

I agree with you froggy it's a ton of content. You're not wrong.
I completely disagree on this video bring a summary of Gordon's courses. I have both systematically attacking the back + pillars of defense: back escapes.
Concepts like lower body controls (e.g., long hooks, short hooks, high ball ride and other concepts have nothing to do with hand fighting but are equally important.
We use these courses in my gym and we go through each of the steps, testing things out for ourselves. You can absolutely memorize and master this stuff.
Again, it's a lot of info, just find something and jump in. Take small bites and test this out with lots of positional sparring.

@@froggy3496 Danaher started to do it this way because he thinks like an academic. So each volume is like a PhD thesis to him, containing all the information and references to a particular topic. But it does mean indeed that one needs to master everything in these volumes, but rather that it should serve as a kind of encyclopedia.

@@froggy3496 Its basically like trying to drink out of a firehose trying to take it all in lol. Ive got alot of instructionals and the best approach imo is to utilize the timestamps Bjjfanatics put up on every instructional and focus on an area. As the old saying goes: How do you eat an elephant? One piece at a time. You dont need to go through an entire dvd on escapes when you're mostly struggling with triangles for example. Just trying to improve in a couple of areas every quarter/shorter+longer term goals.

Thanks for the details! I’ve got John’s back attack system and this pretty much sums his hand fighting principles in a nutshell. I’ve noticed a lot of competitors lately have been really good at getting the strangle without trapping an arm, more in particular, the overhook side. I believe you did the same in ADCC and the trials.

I had someone's back the other day and I was doing the whole hand fighting thing where it was a frustrating perpetual draw. Trapping an arm like that would have made the difference, thanks, great tutorial, there are a lot of other small details that I need to take note of as well such as the side you're coming down on relative to your strangle arm. I'm wondering how that plays in.
