The Chick Corea quartet with John Patitucci, Gary Novak and Bob Berg is one of his finest and most underrated acoustic projects ever, they're like an expanded beefed up version of the Akoustic Band on steriods with such a monster sound. Everyone here gives it everything they have to the music , Chick's sounds like he is dancing in his piano playing with the latin grooves going on, John's bass work is as soulful as always, Bob brings so much intensity to his sax playing and Gary's drumming especially during his solo 7:23 - 8:21 sounds like a man completely possessed. What an unbelievable group of great musicians. I highly recommded you check out this band's 'Time Warp' recording, it's the only one this band has done sadly but it's absolutely fantastic.
yes, Timewarp is an amazing recording ! This concert and tour was before the timewarp album. i saw them in 1992 or 1993, chick was touring at the same time with steve Gadd, bob berg and eddie gomez it was called "Chick Corea and Friends". The band above was called temporary "The Akoustic Band + one" and they did the Timewarp album 2 years later. During the Tour, they were playing a tune from the Elektric Band II album, called "Tumba Island"
I miss Bob😢... Seen him with The JAZZTIMES Super group with Joey Defrancesco, Randy Brecker and Dennis Chambers! Fantastic show at Scullers jazz club in Boston. Chick is still my top 5 favorite musician period! All his work is phenomenal, from Chuck Mangione, Circle, Miles Davis, Return to Forever,Elektric and Acoustic Bands,3 Quartets,The Vigil,etc,etc.....
yes i miss him too. i saw him several times, with mike stern, with chick (twice, with the akoustic band + one here and with the chick corea & friends (eddy gomez + steve gadd). the story of his passing away is absolutly horrible as well. :(
Yeah ! and Not only on the drums ! I saw this tour, and at the end of the concert i met all the band, but Gary was So so nice and kind, i'll never forget the time i spent with him to talk !
@@Martyprod2 me as well. ... many times !!! the humblest guy ever and real friend ... and one another thing: he sat and started to play tumba island on fender rhodes like chick corea himself!!!! crazy talent (also on the bass)
