This quartet consisting of John Patitucci, Gary Novak and Bob Berg (RIP) is one of Chick Corea's best acoustic projects ever and perhaps his most underrated band of all time. Everyone here is a stellar musician in their own right and a master of their respective instrument and they bring a hard edge to their playing and unmatched virtuosity to the music. This amazing all star band sadly only made one album called Time Warp which is one of my favourites and one of the many hidden gems in Corea's long extensive catalogue, i highly recommend you check it out.
Yes- absolutely. I recently watched a video with Gary Novak, and he said this was his favourite tour with Chick as apart from a very skeletal theme/intro all of the pieces were completely improvised.
That's Gary Novak, he ended up leaving the band because Alanis Moressette called and he became her drummer. He was great in that band too. Love that drummer !
Umbeliavable...I'm feelin somehov dizzyness, like when you are high, and not sure if "things" are happenin' fast or slow...unexpectable combination, and patterns...that repetitive one on 7:20...like remembering Miles period... Happy that Chick heard all that stuf in his inner ear, and finaly gave that gold to the people. Gys we are so lucky... Goin back to listen..❤
What an incredible performance. The solos by the entire squad were incredible. I especially love how complementary Chick is when Gary (or Dave Weikle) are soloing.. He provides just the right canvas (or vamping) to lift up solo. He was a true genius
Gary sounds great (as he always does) but this is a typical video where the drums are way too low in the mix. When will the people who mix music videos start getting a clue? The formula is simple: everyone should be heard clearly, not with anyone off in the distance. Most often it's the drums that get mixed incorrectly That being said I still enjoyed it tremendously.
As much as I love Gary Novaks playing, it seems to me he is actually playing very loud. Maybe a little too loud... Yes, it's also a mixing issue, but based on the type of sound of the drums, I would say the drum sound is leaking a lot into other mics (hence the roomy drum sound) implying that there are simply a lot of decibels flying around :)
ROb glad to see a familiar face commenting on top Chick at a time like this. RIP to him and Mr. Berg. This is Jon, google got confused for some reason and wont let me take back my google account
Most of my best solos comes from the moment i fuck up the head of the tune. After i do, i try to go into kill mode like berg did with lithia. Too wholesome to handle.
I dont really get all fawning over for Novak -- he's a great drummer but typical fusion approach to swing which is too heavy handed and not enough dynamics cuz everything is dialed up to 10. Brian Blade brings more to the table for Chick these days
I actually think he's irritating the crap out of Chick. Sure, great drummer, but after a while, there is so much going on, it's desensitising. Chick's the greatest when Roy Haynes is sitting behind the drums. And if we are going to go the fusion route, well.....Steve Gadd.
@@Piratebreadstick So where was Weckyl here . He ,was playing w/ Chick alot then . I think You guys have bad hearing at times. This guy is fast ,yes but not a complete package ..He's good but I've heard dozens like Him ...
You can always tell when the soloist gets stuck. They'll play the same god-damned riff over and over and over and over while they are trying to find a suitable way out of the loop they got into. Jazz is weird. You have to be exceedingly good at playing exceedingly badly. And that is what jazz is....playing everything wrong and somehow making it sound like music. Especially those god-awful upright bass solos. They sound like the house pet strangling themselves to death. I have love/hate relationship with jazz. BTW, Wekl>Novak
Bob Berg. Amazing.
The best quartet in Chick Corea's life.
This is the quartet that produced the Chick Corea album that I cherish the most ….. Time Warp. They “smoked” super hard.
Gary was a kid here. He Smoked this show.
Chick doesn’t play with people he doesn’t absolutely admire and love

Amen. Its my favourite jazz album of all time. Glad to know there's someone else who appreciates it as much.
Agreed! Very well balanced display of technique and musicianship. And Litha is something else -- everyone playing at one's best!
Killin'!
Thanks for the recommendation, let me look for the album.
i share your thoughts. I agree with you.
All 4 are Loving the musical conversation as should we. This is pure 🔥 PERIOD!

Bob Berg´s solo on Litha is nothing short of brilliant!
You will be missed, but your music will live for eternity. Thank you!
RIP CHICK! I'm very happy and grateful that I was there in 1993! One of the best performances ever at Jazz Middelheim!
gary novak is simply astounding !! (as always)
He looks like Drummer Cliff Almond, in fact I first thought it was him till I read the credits.
What a smoking band, Novak a monster.
RiP, my friend. You are the best ! 🎉🎉❤❤❤
Brilliant!!! Chick is one of my all time favorites. Was going with the Jerry Lewis look here 😂
Gary is King, Patitucci is from another planet.. The OTHER TWO SHOULDNT BE DESCRIBED IN WORDS..
Gary Novak Uoooooooowwwwwwwwww !!!!!
Gary plays in such ways that he even pushes Chick to his limit...
Most underestemated drummer I think.
His sound is too brazen for most peoples tastes, he seems more like the free jazz drummers then he is. I love him
@@marvinkmooneyoz He gives me a Tony Williams vibe. Love it.
@@marvinkmooneyoz так, його барабанний грув деколи не схожий на джазовий, але тим не менше він неповторний і чудовий по своєму
Who do you prefer, Gary Novak or Vinnie Colaiuta with Chick Corea at Blue Note Tokyo. Have you ever heard ? 🎉❤
Chick had some musical limits?
beautiful. fantastic Bob Berg. RIP. your music lives on
Gary is a master drummer no doubt ... Fantastic
I can see how some people have a hard time believing that he choose every note, but yes, he did.. eternal chick
That's my impression about all Chick Corea music. He could choose every note, he build every solo only using the best ideas. This is so unique. 🎉❤
best drummer that ever played with chick , in my opinion , he is the complete package . he looks like a young kid AMAZING

Thank You so much Chick Corea!

Patitucci. A God among Men.
John Patitucci is a beast!

Best Corea música Pineapple ever!
Novak Defently is the best drummer in the history of modern jazz and modern music!
Novak is a beast . He only has one gear .. top

Gary Novak was 24 years old in this recording
Litha is the 1st tune. Waltz at 20:00

Check out Litha with Stan Getz & Chick.
Wow... where did you get your hands on this video? Awesome!!!
is that a 20x18 kick, anyone?
I feel like Chick is trying too hard to test the drummer here. The drummer is reacting properly 80% of the time, but Chick still does not approve.
This dude is okay . If people " Have " to compare .Weckyl then in 90's cleaned His clock backwards and front ...
If he didn’t approve he wouldn’t be on the gig. ..

You should be listening to the music rather than judging.
Though I'm impressed by his playing, Novak is too busy, too loud, out of music.
I dare you to say the same thing about Tony Williams.
That's like... your opinion.
