    Sorry for the audio being strange now, one of the 30 second clips i had used before was copyrighted apparently so i had to modify it, this was the first video i ever uploaded on the channel.

    She was tied up in Norfolk, Va when I was stationed there in the 1970s. She was in good condition and was well-maintained with all furnishings, etc. intact. There were occasional articles in the paper about rumors that she would be reactivated but nothing ever came of it. When she was retired, it wasn't just the crew that lost their jobs, it was also the support staff that were based in Norfolk and Newport News who lost theirs-around 20,000 people. It would be great if she could be restored but I don't think it will ever happen. Who would even know how to run the engines?

      @@1940limited probably wont ever run again. but there was a survey on board the ship not to long ago by a real estate known as RXR Realty and they concluded the ship is in good structural condition. there have been many plans to turn her into a museum/hotel/casino (like the queen mary), but none of them have stuck and suffice it to say, sadly I don't think RXR will go through with their plans as past plans show. that survey also talked about the potential price of putting it back into running order and that is upwards of $1 billion so the chances of that happening, as I said before, are next to 0. American people, she is a pride to your country. She should be restored to her full glory. You have all the means and resources to save her. She is an icon and very well-known ship, she shouldn't be rotting there waiting for her being scrap. You save RMS Queen Mary when you all now she isn't made from your country but then someone made an effort to turn her into a hotel. You guys are lucky to have the power and authority to restore her but you chose not to. You are lucky to have her because here in the Philippines we have shortage of ships here, our ships and ferries here are second-hand bought form Japan and some are not very sea-worthy. Some of the ships are already sunk and lost thousands of lives. You taken here for granted, she kept here promise to serve all Americans before, from wealthy passengers to your troops. Now she needs your help and she is ignored by the people who made her such a shame. Perhaps she's old but she is beautiful, she has this classy-look to her that even the Disney cruise ships and Royal Caribbean Cruises isn't at her level in terms of beauty and posture. You guys spend 200million dollars for a movie of Titanic, then you can gather up millions more to restore here. For she has only 2 future awaiting, restore her and let the future generations about her history and what she 's done to your country or the low road, where you continue to neglect her and soon scrap her. Then, your kids will only see here in the pictures and internet browser when you have the capacity to save here today. Think about it... USA Pride is everything and this is one of em.

    • @crixxxxxxxxx
      @crixxxxxxxxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will cost over a billion dollars to restore. The Queen Mary was converted from ocean liner to hotel 50 years ago. It was not a gutted mess when it was converted. In order to spend that kind of money, not even including ongoing docking fees, an investor will need to know that they will have a return on their investment that will occur within a reasonable amount of time after restoration. A hotel will take years to generate the profit needed to recoup a billion dollar investment. It simply makes no financial sense. Cruise ship companies have studied the feasibility of converting her into a cruise ship and have reached the same conclusion. If you want the government to restore it, you need to convince taxpayers why restoring an old ship is more important than spending money on education, transportation or infrastructure. It would be viewed as a giant waste of taxpayer money and those that authorized the funds would never hear the end of it.
