Ejection fraction is measured as a percentage of the total amount of blood in your heart that is pumped out with each heartbeat. A normal ejection fraction is 50 percent or higher. An ejection fraction below 40 percent means your heart isn't pumping enough blood and may be failing
Normal EF is in the range of 55% to 70%. As the percentage falls, it tells the doctor that the heart failure is getting worse. In general, if the EF falls below 30%, it's relatively severe. A reading of 20% or below is very severe heart failure.
Decreased ejection fraction doesn't have many preventable causes. However, it can be triggered by a heart attack, coronary artery disease, diabetes and/or uncontrolled high blood pressure, which can be caused or worsened by: Alcohol or drug abuse. An unhealthy diet, high in saturated fat, sugar and salt.
If untreated, Sudden Cardiac Arrest can lead to death within minutes. If you have a low ejection fraction, your doctor may prescribe medications, recommend lifestyle adjustments or suggest other therapies.
With a low ejection fraction, you might have:
-Fatigue (feeling tired all the time)
    -Shortness of breath.
    -Rapid heartbeat.
    -Swollen feet, legs, or belly.
