Thanks for putting out this video. Not a lot of people know that keratin treatments aren’t for all hair types, particularly if you are low porosity. I’m a high porosity girlie like yourself and will be doing my first keratin treatment at the end of this month. I can’t wait! I’ve also been looking into Japanese Hair Straightening as it seems like a much better alternative to a relaxer. It’s still a chemical and permanent process though so definitely do your research before making the switch but apparently it’s safe to do it with a keratin treatment in your hair. I’ve been natural all my life so all of this is uncharted territory for me but I think if all goes well with the keratin treatment, I might do the JHS next cause I’m tired of all of the high porosity frizz and not being able to keep a silk press for longer than a day since I sweat in my hair. All the best on your journey!
Sounds like you’ve been diligent with ur research! Thank u for sharing the knowledge you learned so far! I’ll def be doing some research for the Japanese treatment! Would love to get a follow up on how the keratin goes!
Please don’t do the Japanese hair straightening. I was natural for 8 years. Long healthy hair. Was convinced after loads of research to do it. And I loved it at first. I waited 7months (maybe too long) to do the regrowth. My hair had grown though it was a nightmare to deal with two different textures I had no breakage. However after my second treatment my hair broke off in clumps. I had a chemical cut at the roots and loads of breakage in between. I waited another 6months before i eventually just cut it ALL off. It was devastating. The stylist has a great reputation for doing Japanese Straightening, but I wonder how many come forward to admit they had breakage. She also knew I had breakage and was suggested it was down to my aftercare- like not steaming and deep conditioning enough. It’s been nearly 2years since I chopped it off and my hair just isn’t the same not yet anyway. Did I love it at the time- hell yes, do I regret it, absolutely!! And it’s not cheap!!
@@sierralafaye yes, i have learnt it the hard way. Was good for 3-4years and suddenly it became to much protein for my medium/low porosity hair. Hair broke off and I had to stop. Haven’t done a treatment in almost 1 1/2 years. I had to cut the majority of my hair and I will eventually cut it all out. Since then Iam still learning how to get the best longterm results. So I’ve read a lot and this one woman said that in her country (can’t remember if Dominican Republic or Brazil) they are only coating the whole hair ones a year and only applying it to the new grow every 3-6 months. This way they prevent the build up so that the keratin has enough time to actually wear off. If I being honest, that’s what I should have done. My hair was vibrant and growing like crazy and the lengths were pretty much straight….I’ll try it once Iam ready and then I come back and give you a review.
Girl this tan came in deep this year lol. But thank you so much! & soooo glad you know ur hair type and that your hair can’t handle the keratin before you tried it and it ruin ur hair
The bottom 6inches of my hair is all the keratin treated hair from October 2022 and it tangles so bad when washed and its so see through. My stylist just trims as little as we can get away with right now every 6 months or so. I will just opt for a relaxer. Thought I was doing something getting keratin 🤦🏽♀️
Thank you for this thoughtful advice, my producer is getting my wavy japanese/srilankan hair silk pressed in order for it to be dead straight. Not sure if I should do silk press or keratin treatment? I was suggesting keratin because I thought it would be better for my hair.
If you want to keep your wave pattern don’t do permanent straightening at all. A press (without chemicals) should be fine because it’ll revert after it gets wet. keratin treatment should be fine if you have high porosity hair and are okay with the wavy not coming back. Ive heard japanese straightening lasts the longest but it is tough on your hair overtime similar to a relaxer.
@itsravenbabii17 Heyy thanks for your advice 🙏✨️ that's great. Ended up doing just a silk press, it reverted back pretty quickly after it got wet. I will consider keratin for next time 😊
How often do you do your keratins. I just bought the GK Hair keratin treatment (the best). It’s formaldehyde free. Juvexin is a plant extract used. I hope i didn’t butcher the name of that lol. I was recommended to used it once every six months. I also wanna be a straight natural and did that for a few months earlier this year but I think a keratin will help with that. Now I’m concerned that my hair can be damaged even if I do the treatment once every 6 months.
I do mine at random, maybe once every year and a half-but just here and there. The keratin you have seems very interesting! I would test a small piece of ur hair and wait a few weeks and see how ur hair responds. If you decide to put it all over your hair see how ur hair is after 6 months. Depending on how you care for your hair during that time you may not need to do another treatment or you may just want to put the treatment on your new growth as a commenter just mentioned!
I usually use relaxer but i heard keratin is way better..wonder if anyone who had relaxer before now use keratin..i wanna try it but scared as well lol

Omgggg I so sorry to hear what you had to go through but THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH for the forewarning!
Keratin treatment is NOT Japanese Hair Straightening lmfao
Another option is Botox for Hair. My stylist said that Botox for Hair was better for my hair than Keratin.
The thing with keratin is the builup over time. You can try to only do the new grow and only do the whole hair once a year or so
This is a great idea!!

Aw sorry to hear that, I’m glad you are slowly cutting it off so you didn’t have to do a drastic big chop. Wishing u speedy hair growth!!
Hey I've been trying to find a black salon near me that can do this. Do you have any tips on how to find good ones?
