Thank you so much for this recipe. Made vasilopita for the first time ever & it turned out beautifully! I used 1.5 cups of sugar instead of 2 cups & it was lovely! Thank you once again!
Καλή χρονιά! @@DimitrasDishes . May this coming year be known as the year of φιλότιμο. That is my wish. I am making the vasilopito this year for that very reason. Στην υγεία της οικογένειάς touς. ☺
@ it came out delicious and I used the Valencia oranges from my tree for the zest plus added the juice of one of the oranges as well. Thank you and Happy New Year.
Thank you Dimitra❤you are gorgeous..Happy and healthy new year. Your presence inspired me to use your recipe today instead of the one I have used for years(although it’s similar, no yogurt) ευχαριστώ!
When we lived in CA I baked the traditional Mexican Three Kings Day bread and hid a lucky foil wrapped tiny baby Jesus (wooden, not plastic!) inside. In later years back in Michigan I hid a dime. Not sure how lucky they felt since it also carries the responsibility for hosting the next year’s party. Love mixing cultures around a dinner table. Your ultra rich cake will be fun to try this year in Florida but, yikes! -my slices would be much smaller with lots of fresh strawberries. Or maybe Swedish lingonberries. 💕
Good morning, my friend Dimitra another delicious recipe traditional and yummy. Turn down absolutely mouthwatering. Thank you for sharing. Happy new year to you and your family and God bless everyone.🙏😋💕🥳🥂🇬🇷🌍
I'll tell you demetria, you're taking me way back to my childhood every time I see you ditch out traditional Greek recipes. My father was from Greece and my aunt. You pretty much exemplify what Greek cooking is all about.. l love your show. I wish so much to find a nice Greek young lady like you That has the Witt's and of course the excellent cooking skills that you have. I'm a Greek American boy. That's deep in my roots. So if you know of any Greek women that have your personality and cooking skills that you possess. send them my way please. Keep up the good work. Greek cooking doesn't get any better than what you provide. Good job demetria!.🤪🤙👍👌
It should still turn out fine! The texture might be a bit different, but it will still be delicious. Don’t worry-sometimes improvisation leads to new favorites. 😊 Let me know how it turns out!
Hi- I'm of Greek-Cypriot descent, bake gluten free and have tried many of Dimitra's recipes. For years I've tried recipes from the ladies in my church's Greek Cookbook, but they haven't worked out GF. I've found that Dimitra's, however, are VERY close to what you need, with only minimal adjustment, if you use the right flour and, importantly, her technique. For me the go-to flour for pizza dough, bread and pastries is Caputo Fioreglut from Italy. Pricey, but can be found on sale. Worth every penny. Last year her Vasilopita with chocolate chips and fruit was the lightest, tastiest Vasilopita I've ever made. Really enjoyed her fall recipes for Tsoureki- they were fabulous. For cookies, you can use King Arthur measure-for-measure GF. I also use it for dusting and coating to conserve the Caputo :)
Two things: No, baking the aluminum and metal coin is not something we do. That's just dumb and not healthy! This cake originates in Asia Minor - with greeks from there - and they never ever add yogurt. Vassilopita is not yogurt cake! Greeks add it after it is baked.

Did everyone notice she got the coin in her piece? Looks cute 😊

Ευχαριστώ πολύ! May your year be filled with joy, health, and wonderful moments. ❤️

Would GF flour work?

Greeks add it after it is baked.
We and millions of other people have been baking this in an aluminum pan with the coin wrapped in foil all our lives and nothings happened.
