Unlike some people, I never had an issue that Zaraki obtained both Shikai and Bankai in the same arc especially after learning Yachiru is his zanpakuto spirit. Zaraki has to be the person who has the closest relationship with his zanpakuto spirit and treats her like a surrogate father and if Yachiru feels that he is worthy of having Bankai who are we to judge?
It made sense. Training mentally and bonding with Zanpakuto's spirit are steps to obtain Bankai. Even though Zaraki never really knew his Zanpakuto's name, he's bonded with his Zanpakuto's spirit for hundreds of years.
Komamura is since he's the only one that can repair and share wounds with his bankai due to their strong link.

There another foreshadowing you missed. When ichigo first met kenpachi and yachiru in the soul society, ichigo ask yachiru who or what is she because ichigo couldn't feel her presences. In fact ichigo was more concerned by her presence than kenpachi

That part when Zaraki first unleashes his shikai and we see Yachiru's reaction, her face, the flashback to that scene..."what's your name? ...ain't got one? Me neither" that just tied it in for me. Knowing how significant the name in order to attain your true power.

You know, I just realized that, one of the requirements of Bankai is manifesting the Zanpakutou in the real world so Zaraki basically skipped a step here and it should come as no surprise that he gained Bankai after he learned Shikai.
I like to think he had basically already done every step for his bankai he just hadn’t gotten to the right level to actually use his Bankai given what happens to him. I’d never touch the same continent as a mf like rhat
Every other Soul Reaper: Spends years fighting their inner spirit to obtain Bankai.
Meanwhile, Kenny achived Bankai by treating his inner spirit with love and affection for as long as he knew it and thus she gave it to him as soon as she was able to.
I think there is something really wholesome about how the Soul Reaper that loves fighting the most, gained his Bankai by doing the exact opposite of how one usually obtains it.

After learning the truth the scene of when they first met made so much sense. Especially when she touches the sword when he asked where she is from. The is a well thought out explanation and just goes to show how well the world building is in Bleach.
The answer Kubo gave makes perfect sense to me, I mean there is so much lore (mostly untapped) around Kenpachi that I can't wait to see it being animated to see if there are new clues to the puzzle that represents Kenpachi.

It doesn’t bother me because I already know but you have to remember and be considerate that majority of people don’t read the manga at all and are anime only! You also forgot one more detail about Ichigo and Old man Zangetsu vs Kempachi and Nozarashi. Old man Zangetsu having bad intentions at first gained remorse and compassion for Ichigo despite his hunger to become stronger to be just.
I thought it was awesome Kenpachi could manifest Zanpakto in the physical world. I do remember something others able to see them when manifest in the real world or only the weilder. The only thing was odd she looked normal.
Even though its filler I had semi guessed that yachiru was a manifestation of his zanpakto due to the zanpakto rebellion arc, but I just wasnt sure the specific details as to how it had happened I overlooked the point you mentioned that strong souls can split their own souls into seperate entities. Ontop of that in the soul society arc Ichigo made a comment of what Yachiru was as he never noticed her at all till she jumped on his shoulder.

Zaraki is like a main character with a unique story
I thought Nozarashi manifested themselves as Yachiru in Kenpachi's subconscious because she's the one person Kenpachi connects with the most. Though I can get behind this take too. Kenpachi has been putting self-imposed power limits for a very long time, but forgot (or didn't consciously realize) why he did it. It could be in order to further cut down his power level, he subconsciously split his soul. His Bankai is him and Nozarashi becoming one again.

The more I think about about. The more I'm believing, that Zaraki's zanputo ability is the power to focus his unbelievable reiatsu. Nozarashi is just his reiatsu focused in the blade. While, his bankai is just his reiatsu focused solely through him to specifically to boost his already crazy combat potential. Like a combat stimulant for a warrior. Probably why the blade I'm his bankai is halved and why he him changes physically and mentally in a host of ways.

Zaraki's shikai is his reiatsu and or reiryoku focused into his zanpakuto where he can control its overwhelming power. Zaraki's bankai runs in opposite of this, and seemingly is in tune with Yachiru's shikai, where he focuses all his reiatsu and or reiryouku focused into himself where his zanpakuto controls his overwhelming power.
I find it so funny that nearly all of my theories I developed for bleach while watching the first two seasons has come to be true. Ichigo and his mother being a Quincy, the Quincy's not being gone but planning something and having crazy weird strong powers, and this. I somehow knew that she was his sword when she was snapping at the informant guy during Ichigos first fight with Kenpatchi.
Yachiru's pink, small, feminine, playful and funny persona contrasts and balances Kenpachi's dark, tall, hypermasculine, aggressive and serious persona.
I think its the fact that there was no reflection on thr aftermath of nozorashis release. She disappears and they fight on and Ken mentions NOTHING afterwards

I remember when kenpachi named yachiru and i remember, distinctly, thinking the quote about not knowing your zanpakto's name was extreme forshadowing. Was not surprised at all to find that yachiru was kennys zanpakto

Wouldnt zarakis bankai be similar to that if the 8th kenpachis' bankai. It was always manifested in the real world but only he could see it, whereas zaraki's yachiro was visible to all.
Both were constantly in the real world, giving them instant bankai per say.

Funnily enough the guy with 69 on his face has ichigo's original hair style in the one shot. Perhaps he's the remnants of 1 shot ichigo? From a writer perspective of course.
Could be that was just the easiest style to draw; while Shuhei Hisagi does look similar, remember that Kaien Shiba (the previous Assistant Captain of 13th Company) had an appearance that literally WAS a black-haired Ichigo, something that Rukia & Byakuya point out (the uncanny resemblance) without directly mentioning Kaien.

@@UnrebornMortuus Rukia's senpai basically. Plus, considering that Kaien is from the Shiba family and Ichigo's lineage is also Shiba via his father, it sparked theories back in the day that Ichigo was the reincarnation of Kaien. I definitely had that thought when Kaien was first introduced.

yahchiru is not nozarashi she just the aspect for the bankai. the aspect of nozarashi for the shikai is a grown woman according to kubo
I will pat myself on the back, owch I hurt my shoulder. I called this way back in day right after the dub came out on the BleachFlame forum, I had a pretty popular topic about it. The most surprising thing about the long thread was most people disagreed, I thought it was pretty obvious.

It was an interesting take and twist back then by Kubo, for sure but he made it stupidly obviously after Kenpachi's fight with Gremmy, where Yachiru "mysteriously" disappeared after he released his Shikai for the readers to see. So it wasn't really an asspull and the recontextualization could begin from there. But up until that point Kubo did a pretty good job with the idea of a feral man adopting an almost equally feral child and having a bond with them via found family, with the kid(usually a girl) being as nasty or more animalistic than the man; like the relationship between Hyakkimaru and Dororo in Dororo. To a lesser extend Lone Wolf and Cub, with Ogami and his son exposed to all the carnage since that one is a revenge story through and through compared to Kenpachi's.
Still, the most effective twist is the one who plays by the world's / story's rule while seemingly presenting familiar tropes in an environment where a different context for them exists.

Firmly believe that Yachiru is Zaraki's zanpakuto infact as it was split into separate entity to not only communicate with him but also to differ his immense strength as a bar (prominent by flashback of her appearing near his blade as infant showing the zanpakuto's demised strength due to ignorance of Zaraki as highlighted by Zangestu during Ichigo vs Zaraki ) ..... Also ichigo could not sense her and after there fight yachiru said "we will get stronger together" after Zaraki desired to become stronger to fight Ichigo again .Also Yachiru's shikai fits in with zaraki bankai perfect .... Afterall it was two beast imitating her moves (2 times her power) .... Zaraki bankai is infact more tuned to a beastly berserker .... Giving him twice or maybe thrice the power he has in shikai ..... Ironically yachiru in japanese means Eight thousand exiles and nozarashi means weather beaten .... Both in tuned to life of Zaraki as whole .... Yachiru Didn't disappear but became one with the Zanpakuto when zaraki for the first time called his shikai .... Merging into Zarakis Zanpakuto power Pool similar to Stark and Ichigo Tensa Zanpakuto
I knew Zaraki was a problem when he Fought Retsu. She used her Bankai in the end. He never used his, and was still stronger.

my thoughts exactly..... i believe Kenpachi is from the unnamed royal family. Nozarshi is the Head of that royal family's lost zanpaktou...used to cut off Ryu's(Soul King) limbs.
Yachiru is the only thing that I had figured out since the Soul Society arc. It's was pretty obvious. I thought it was the one thing he gave us since everything else was hidden well Aizen,Unahana being 1st Kenpachi,etc...
I always found it weird only Kenpachi would react to when she is in danger (as in only he can sense her) and one more thing I notice when Ichigo first met her and Kenpachi he couldn’t sense her presence either

I mean I saw this from a mile away. Just thinking? Hey why can't Kenny make higher than his original power with his Lieutenants hand over the shoulder. When clearly when you think about it, his lieutenant and him are extremely alike.
Imo, it shows just how far ahead of all the other shinigami that kenpachi really is in terms of raw talent, he has just always lacked the training to go along with it. The amount of control he has and capabilities he shows without even realizing is a little terrifying in terms of the bleach universe
Seeing as how Zaraki was the only person who didnt have his Zanpakuto manifest in the anime, when almost everyone else's did, I knew something was going on, but was never 100% sure what. I understand a number of the story lines in the anime are not accurate to the manga, but I always thought that was interesting.

Google is giving me issues translating kenju but sanpo means walk. So in a way Yachiru's shikai is a clever clue.
Even after the first time, I saw the anime, I could sense something about the two. Yachiru knew of things about Kenpachi that would make another cringe. Even her own little filler gave her time to have known people over time. Althought with her being his Zanpakuto, she provided an insight that no other zanpakuto didn't have. The Rebellion zanpakuto story allowed some to learn their humanity whereas Yachiru had it all the time. And with them being gone, it gave me that idea there was something different between him and his zanpakuto. It would be interesting if Muramasa had tried to persuade her to rebel, but I think he would have had a hard time.

Yachiru being Kenpachi's Zanpakuto (well part of it anyways) was something me and a friend figured out in the Soul Society arc and I'm still proud of it to this day.
With each new arc of both the manga and anime (even the fillers, because Kubo had given them orders to not include or hint at anything Kenpachi related during the Zanpakuto fillers) we became even more convinced it had to be the truth.
Nobody believed it back then and people were always citing that data book, which claimed that Zaraki's blade was always in it's shikai state, which had always been such a red hering and obviously was taken from opinions of characters in the manga itself, who didn't know better.
The hints were always there and people just didn't want to believe it.
1K Blood War has been pretty good. Gaps in anime detail are more of a testament to how much detail you can slam into a manga then exceed the anime format's ability to tie it together in a timely fashion. Keep in mind how hopeless live action movies and TV are for adapting super fleshed out story detail and basic setting, for contrast.

That's the part that threw me off the track! Early on I believed Yachiru was really Zaraki's zanpakuto spirit but her having a zanpakuto of her own that was different from his seemed to contradict that interpretation. In all other instances (especially the non-canon Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc that I relied on due to a general lack of canon information, but also as shown with Zangetsu) a zanpaluto spirit only wields itself. Kubo's explanation that she was mistaken for a shinigami (or had actually attained a dual nature due to the power of names) and was handed an asauchi after Zaraki chose her as his Lieutenant.
Szayelapporo is espada number zero ?? I thought Yammy was espada number zero
It was explained that in the "Spirits Are Forever With You" light novels, Szayelapporo *WAS* the Cero Espada; splitting off a part of his soul to create Ilfort wound up greatly reducing his powers, thus reducing his ranking. Remember that just like the Gotei 13 we see over the course of the main story in the anime and manga, the Espada we see during the Arrancar & Fake Karakura Town arcs aren't the same as they were before. (Ex.: Hallibel being the current Trés Espada, when it was previously Nelliel aka Nel, which the main story actually covered)

Fun Fact: I actually predicted this something around the soul society arc and no one on the anime forum I went to believed me.
It was hinted back in season One where ichigo asked her what and not who she was.
So an idea, capt toshiro says a captain only draws their sword for one reason, and once kenpachi optained his title, the zanpackto knew he was sentimental and needed direction hence taking a physical form and the fact he never sheathed the blade....

Who didn't already know that she was his zanpakuto? It was pretty evident by the time he first fought Ichigo.
My theory is that Nozarashi's bankai's special ability is basicly sanpo kenju or something close to it. Why, you would ask. It's simple, apple don't fall too far from the tree. Zanpaktous takes form directly from your inner self by you pouring your reiatsu into your empty asauichi as you carry and train with them. Also i'd to tell everyone to pay attention Ichigo's acquisition of his original zanpaktou. If you pay attention to all things, you just see that zanpaktous are not tools but part of yourself, as it also written in the chapter name "ch. 542 THE BLADE IS ME".

I think that anybody who didn't figure it out by the plotline interactions and her promptness and knowing what he was thinking are absolutely incompetent and need to learn what they used to teach in grade school.
Yeah, unpopular maybe... but there it is. He laid it all out on the pin-board and ran the yarn between the pictures for us and still almost nobody got it.
The soul society isn't my favorite arc for me it's 6.5. But the best parts are ichigo and Kenny's foreshadowing all started during there first fight.

It would make sense that as the owner of the Zanpakuto by giving the zanpakuto its own name would not that make Zanpakuto more stronger. The more you know its name and giving it another name then u combine those name can the zanpakuto become stronger for having additional name?

The most obvious for me was when we saw Yachirus aura with the same Skull as Kenpachis. Shinigami dont share ornhave the same or similar Sprit Pressure. They can distinctly tell each other from one another
Since the first time I saw bleach and read the Manga, I always thought that Yachiru could be Kenpachi’s Zanpakto. When I read the 1000 year blood war, I knew for a fact that she was.
I'm confused on Yachiru having a name made her a soul reaper. Was that before, or after Zaraki named her? What was she before he named her? Just a wandering soul?
