    nice skill in making boxes, I am a little behind in that, I made a 10 ct strato treo box, it's just painted black, and I tuned it to 35ish, the port is on right side towards the rear, rear seats delete coupe, put foam padding behind the box, with the subs facing forward and it sounds like it's tuned lower than 30, but again your box making skills are elite.

    Your enclosure looks real nice. Nice edges on the carpet. I like the wood grain being shown off a bit. However, I've got to say, 1800 is an awful lot of power to get a 138. Honestly I think you would go further having a sealed enclosure with two passive radiators. Willing to bet your SPL and your perceived volume would increase using less power having just one woofer... Would love to see you prove me wrong!!

Looking at sundown and skar 6 and 1/2s also. Considering 8-in CT and skar. As you can tell I'm kind of all over, so kind of would like some input. All my friends have 12s and they tell me I'm going to hate the 6 and 1/2s. , But I want to do something different not so boring that everybody has. Also My build will be in a four-door truck with almost no space under the seat so looking for some ideas there as well!!

    A lot of the Lowes and Home Depots near me will not cut wood for a speaker box. A couple even have signs up saying as much. Most of the time that I can get them to cut it, it's been nowhere near accurate (usually crooked because they run the saw down and then back up without sliding the wood out of the way of the blade) Nowadays I just have them cut it like 1" over and trim it up on my saw at home.

    • @tone1585

    Hi Trevor, Great build!
    I have a question for your thoughts.
    I have 3 Meso 8" subs that I will be getting installed in a few weeks at a local shop in Charlotte NC.
    My question is about the box build. I have heard that for a small SUV like I have, 2022 Mazda CX5 Turbo, that a box with dubs firing up and port firing rear may produce the best all-around sound. Is there any truth to that and also how does that setup compare to subs back port back, subs up port up?
    Thanks for your video and sharing your expertise!

    I asked customer support for some advice but they said that because doing so would void warranty they wouldn't talk about it. Does anyone know if a custom subwoofer box for a 12 inch round subwoofer works for an L7S12? The Air Space cubic feet and the mounting depth all match. If I modify it by cutting the mounting hole to the shape of the Solo-Baric. Worst case scenario would be adding a thicker board over the mounting to give the subwoofer more depth to sit on.
    That all sounds like it's no problem. But would it affect the way it sounds in a negative way?

  • @TheIrvingsylva
    @TheIrvingsylva ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does that box NOT require bracing???

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is bracing "required". No. Would bracing help? Yes, it usually can. If you look at his design you'll notice there are not any large panels to flex in the first place. Its a narrow rectangular box. If you look at 10:40 you see that the inner section of port wall is helping brace things top to bottom. All the panels look pretty stiff. Maybe the one place you could add a brace would be top to bottom behind the middle sub. If it were a larger box you'd see big gains by adding extra bracing. His small box almost doesn't need it.

    So changing the port shape part way through the port (as long as you keep the same area) will not change the air velocity or increase turbulence enough to noticeably effect tuning, output, possible chuffing, etc? Is this dependent on the amount of change in shape, how much power you’re pushing or any other factors that you noticed? Any rules you follow to make this work every time? Interesting idea as I’ve always been told regardless of the shape the port needs to maintain that shape throughout the length.

      @mikeganard6751 This one is terrible for cutting holes. The collet doesn't grab tight enough even tho I have it as tight as humanly possibly. The bit will work its way out and ruin your holes. It also broke the latch and will spin and change the depth while cutting. So I put a grade I bolt in ot and I have to use 2 wrenches to change my height.
      Okay, so you managed to cut your holes without the bit falling out or the depth spinning.. Great, now you just want to change to a round over bit. 4 different wrenches, a hammer, and a chisel later, and you're good to go. That same collet that doesn't grab for shit also won't come out for shit.
      That's why today it is used for only cutting holes and its still not perfect.

      There's a few factors at play here. I have a capacitor and factory agm. I'm running at .67 ohm. And the amp makes 2300w at 1 ohm at 13v. So at 14v, it makes about 2700w. At .67 it makes almost 3k. So after impedance rise of around 1 to 1.25 ohm, I'm seeing around 2k-2.3k

    normally general rule of thumb you want your face plate of your box to cap your top ...bottom .. and sides... makes for a much stronger box.....it says very detailed... but never says how you tunned the port due to a triangle in the rear and rectangle in the front.. also did not mention what you think the box is tuned to....

    • @ATCA
      @ATCA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, I did. Taking an inch off the top and adding to the bottom doesn't change the tuning.

      @@ATCA interesting... how may square inches is the new port... didn't mention... how long is the port.. didn't mention... you said you shortened it... or how you calculated the port size with the triangle shape in the rear.... but I guess by taking one inch from the top... and adding it to the bottom makes all the other changes the same 🤣

      @thomasstott527 port is 30 in2 from opening to the inside. It's whatever length the subbox said minus half the Kerf Radius. Thos box is 36hz wh3n built which I think is exactly what I modeled

  • @fishrrelaxing9361
    @fishrrelaxing9361 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    30sq is a lot for 2 8”s lol.. you should be around 21-26sq given that box size lol.. 30 might be about right by the time you increase the box size and add the third sub..
    Should’ve gone to 2.25 net @33 with 34-36sq that’s the honey spot for that setup.
    Way overthinking the inside of that port entrance.. you don’t need to do all that.. just throw a 1/2 round bit in the router and hit both sides of the end so it’s not square.. even still the amount of difference that is going to make you are never going to hear that anyways lol.
    You keep adding more and more crap to this box.. keep the port making it shorter and all the while you actually want to be gaining a little volume here.. you need to
    .75 each net so 2.25. All this over building is actually making the box sound worse then it would if you just focused on the people box with the proper tuning and proper port area.
    Good job and all and at the end of the day it will slam.. but if you dropped to 2.0 net you should’ve also reduced your port down a little as well. That’s said as big as your orginal box port was this one actually started a little on the smaller side at 31-32 which is where you want to be anyways at 2net. I’d actually argue down to 28 for little more peak and maybe tune it up to 35-37 from my normal 33..
    All in all good box lot of work and not a bad design but you got too much software you’re using and not really understanding some of the basics of box building. Kinda a too smart for your own good kinda thing.
    Oh man I said that and now you’re baffling the inside of the box losing more space.. baffle the outside not the inside 🤦‍♂️. No one baffles the inside cause it takes away a lot of air! Messes up easy math trying to calculate it just add the board to the outside.. you’re way to overly focused on matching up with that shelf in the trunk that is so irregular anyways lol..
    Bro you don’t calculate port area by drivers.. this kills me when people do this it’s simple based on the net of the box nothing else!
    14-16” square per cube.. use 16 for bigger xmax subs.. drop to 14 for smaller xmax subs.. but that is the sweet spot and it’s based on volume of the box nothing else.. you could put 20 15’s in a 1 cube box you’re port area is still 16.. or you could put one 6.5 in a 10 cube box and your port is still 160 lol.. this is truly what makes some boxes absolutely slam while others just sound good.
    If you’re going for high end sq then you need to run calculations on cone area, to volume to mechanical moment of the drivers etc.. but that’s cause anytime you’re doing sq with ported or boxes it’s cause you’re doing more like a home thwarted build and tune it to like 22.5 and then you try to flatten out the response as well as the range with the port. You don’t see many do this is sq for a reason.. its very complicated and needs a massive t line box basically making it the worlds bidders boss stereo lol..
    If you’d gone 2.25 34ish sq you’d have been 143ish lol
    In fact that old box with a redesign on the port t the proper size with just the 2 should be where you’re at on music. Much less burps..

      @MrWeeble19 so why is my box confirmed tuned to 36hz.. which I modeled it for... my comment remains. I don't think you fully understand.
      Why do I take a box design and hack it up? Because I dont want a square box. I want a fancy box. This video shows the average viewer how to take a basic design and make it custom with a few simple tricks. BTW, the software is free, and any good builder know that it's just a guide. The builder knows how to make the box correctly. And this box is correct. So, I'm still unsure what you actually mean by this thread of comments. Again, politely, I don't think you fully understand what's going on here. But stick around and you'll learn a few things. You'll get there.
