He never told 'bout it, only 'bout family. his full story was unrevealed only after he passed. During ww2, his family including 6 brothers was killed by bombing. I can't imagine what hell he walk through, but remembered even at the dusk of his life, in calm talk, his sight was like "1000 yard stare". Once he shows me one photo of his family, where he was a kid, and tell me "wars took not only people's life, they kill souls in those who survived them"
See all those soldiers, regardless of their side. Their innocence can be seen on their faces, that they did not want to be there, that they had to adapt to the process by killing those who were once their brothers. I know we are all proud to see these men who gave everything for their country and were strong, but did they really want to be there? The Germans of this era were like 90% Christian so if they believed in Him, they were saved of that fate.
