My grandfather was a tank commander in WWII and he began fighting Germans on DDay+3. I loved just listening to him talk about his time as a Tank Commander fighting, surviving, killing and everything in between. He was shot 3 times but only received 2 purple hearts. I learned so much from him! I can't believe he had to go up against German tanks that were so much better than US tanks. I asked him "Papa, how did you manage to survive and destroy tanks that were so much better?" He responded "when we took a shot we never missed! I was patient in time of panic". When my Papa died, he stood up on his feet - standing tall and died in my mother's arms and my Uncle Marty's arms. 2 of the 3 children he had and successfully raised!
