  • Firmware updated to Version 1.01 on my Sony A6700 APSC camera. Did this help the overheating? I've tested the overheat performance multiple times with various recording settings. Auto Power OFF Temp setting is set to: High. WiFi & Bluetooth are Off. I hope you find this useful, and I hope to earn your subscription. Thanks! Enjoy!

    this is a fantastic camera and alot of channels nowadays hate on APSC camera's cause they are not full frame. I have never had an issue overheating in 4k 60 with this Camera. Although my videos are usually on 10 mins long. If I may ask what makes this a consumer level camera? The apsc the one card slot mini HDMI? In over 20 years of photography I have never had a card fail shooting in even harsh climates. No one has ever looked at my images and said that what shot with a apsc. Lightroom latest Denoise is fantastic so that has helped were apsc has struggled before in low light. The mini hdmi is frustrating I will admit. All in all this camera in my opinion offers great value for the money! As a side note I am not a Sony fan boy I have shot canon for 18 years! Not attached to any company or brand just use what works at the moment. Cheers

      Hi. Thanks for the comment. I hope I didn't give any impression that I have a problem with this camera. That is definitely not the case. While I understand some people's frustration of this camera not being what they want it to be, it is however exactly what I wanted and expected. If you have a chance to watch my recent video on this camera, I talk about why it's the perfect camera for me. The a6700 is an absolutely fantastic amount of value. The photo and video quality and options is excellent. I am more that happy with it. I did the overheat videos to test the camera and be able to provide the results as information for anyone that it could be helpful for. The overheating results are quite honestly what I expected of this camera and most cameras for that matter. These results don't change my feelings on the camera one bit. The a6700 does exactly what I bought it for and what I need it to do. It's been great to bring out and shoot photos and videos. I completely agree with you on APSC. I prefer APSC. The quality and value, especially in the Sony line of cameras and lenses available, is hard to beat. Thanks for watching. Hope to hear from you again in the future. Cheers.

      Great response. I have the A6700 and am very impressed with it. My a6600 almost pales in comparison in certain features, like the much improved focusing ability, to include insects. Like you, I have shot with another brand for 20 or so years, the Pentax Spotmatic F, Canon FTB and my current Nikon F2 and FE2. Now, as a hobbyist, I chose Sony for their tiny rangefinder cameras. First one I bought was the a6000. My niece now is enjoying that camera. Besides the a6700, I have the A7R3. I don't shoot much video, mainly stills. I can tell you there is so little difference between images (same image, same lens, different bodies with one being the R3 and the other the a6600) I dare anyone to tell me which body I used. These TH-cam camera influencers are more salesmen, less proficient camera people who only know how to repeat the specs written on a piece of paper. Experience is the best and when you test the cameras yourself, you see most of the YT videos are a lot of nonsense. The sensor in the a6600 and a6700 are fantastic, with the a6700 a tiny bit better. When I compared photos shot between a Sony A74 and the a6700, I saw no difference. The years shooting film taught me a lot. Working as a newspaper staff member in the military taught me more. I think I learned more about photography at journalism school than all these videos combined. There you are put to the test, the test to see if you can shoot a photo worthy for print in a newspaper.

    It heats up with latest firmware. And the latest firmware was on the camera by default, so I bought the latest manufactured batch. It is recording at room temp. Shuts down exact 20Min recording at 4k 60fps 265 codes.

      Yes, many have similar results, as do i. 4k60 produces a lot of heat. Some would disagree, but 20 minutes in 4k60 is kind of normal for this camera.

      Hi. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching. Both Bluetooth and WiFi were off for all the tests. Yes, without a built-in fan like the FX30, it's tough for a small consumer camera to not heat up a lot rather quickly while shooting 4k 30fps and above. But I think it's a great camera, and is exactly what I wanted for my needs in a hybrid camera. I record shorter clips mostly when out shooting, combined with taking photos. For this, it is perfect for me. The larger battery and grip, stabilization, awesome autofocus, new menu system, seperate profiles for video and photo, 10bit, 4k60 abilities, etc just heavily outweigh any cons, and made it an easy choice to use over my a6400. Thanks.

      Sometimes I wonder if the speed of the card your saving to can cause overheat warning variations in some unknown way. I know it shouldnt but we dont know everything about the firmware and how it all connects. Maybe try a fast card on a recording setting that dont need it that fast. Maybe the faster it gets onto the card the longer before it overheats or maybe vise versa. Someone needs to test using differing cards. I know my A7iv with a nice sized CF card seems to really work nicely. I need to test the video on it sometime to see when it over heats.

    hi Your review is so great. Thank you. Do you have sony a7c II? Does this camera have a problem such as shutting down due to heat? or have you heard of it? I'm stuck between Sony A6700 and A7C II, which one makes more sense to buy? Which device has the most advantages when it comes to taking videos and photos?

    • @anthonyj_film_photo
      @anthonyj_film_photo  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. Thank you friend. Unfortunately I do not have the a7cII, and I am not familiar as to if it overheats or not. It appears to be a really nice camera option however. I think the first idea to visit is lenses. The a6700 is a crop sensor (apsc). The a7cII is a full frame sensor. Are you coming from another similar Sony camera either full frame or apsc, and already have some lenses for one or the other? I believe both cameras will take great photos, and both will take great quality videos. I would only be concerned about overheating if you need to record for extended amounts of time in 4k30 and higher. However, some people are reporting that there camera does not overheat. I truly enjoy my a6700, and am happy with it. For what I do with it, day to day, overheating is of no concern to me. Thanks. Let me know which one you decide!

      @@anthonyj_film_photo Previously, I had an a6000 model camera, but I sold it because it didn't have 5-axis stabilization. :(( Manual lenses lacked image stabilization, and there were shakes in some frames in low-light conditions. Currently, I don't have any camera, and I'm torn between whether to get the a6700 apsc or the a7c II full-frame model. The a6700 shutting down without overheating in 4k30 and above videos bothers me. Because these cameras are expensive in Turkey. To put it briefly, the price of the a6700 is equivalent to a 2-month teacher's salary. Especially for a feature I won't be able to use, the specific values of shutting down without overheating made it difficult for me to choose between the two cameras. Otherwise, the a6700 is a great camera that could be purchased with lens prices if it didn't have the overheating issue. Adding a fan later is not my preference :(. I hope you get your hands on the a7c II model :) Thanks for the response.

    First of all thanks for testing the h265 codec with lower bitrate as I asked! Really disappointing resault there :(
    Most of the other tests are very disappointing too... even worse than many zv-e1 test I saw online.
    I was considering the Ulanzi Fan too but I would need it to extend the recording time by many times for my case^^ I would buy a 2nd FX30 but I really need the Soft Skin effect which isn't available on the fx30
    About the missing 25p/30p in h265 codec, it's a known mistery by Sony without any answer... it really badly affects us PAL users as we don't even have the 24p option and are forced to shoot at 50p if we want to use that codec.

    • @anthonyj_film_photo
      @anthonyj_film_photo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, you're welcome! No problem. Yeah, too bad the results didn't deliver more promising news. But, I suspect the overheating varies test to test and camera to camera from what I'm seeing and hearing. I haven't tried the soft skin effect for anything. Is there any particular situation where it is helpful? I am curious to try for myself if so.

      @@La-di I thought the same, but it didn't turn out that way for me. I would be really interested, if you end up testing or recording that way and share the results here, if you don't mind. Hopefully, yours does go longer! When I'm out shooting, I really don't use these types of recordings for more than a few seconds at a time to shoot some clips or B-roll. Combining that with photography, I am loving this camera. It does exactly what I bought it for! Glad to hear you are liking yours also! Thanks.

    Damn I'd tell there's no heating issues if it heats and shuts down at 13+ minutes for 4k.

    There are also other options like those cooling fans with metal plates for smartphones. I've attached such to mya6700 and it made it impossible to overheat

    Looking to get camera for gf. She takes pics and streams. Does this have the capability of clean HDMI out 4k60 as a webcam? I’d be using a capture card with it. Do you think it would over heat?

      Hi. It's great for photos. I haven't used mine as a webcam. If I'm not mistaken, i believe it can only be used up to 4k30 as a webcam. It's been hit and miss for different people with overheating. Some also have better luck using a dummy battery. If i had to guess, i would say my camera would likely overheat there. Have you looked at the cooling fan for it. Works very well! This is a link to a video i made about the fan if you're interested. th-cam.com/video/t0LneM-a1DA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gae9bHaGThTa28zq

    Weired. I have no issue with mine. 24°C ambiant, 4k25p 422 10b XAVC-S in S-Log3 with LUT enabled for display, and the A6700 runs approx 2 hours until the battery gets depleted, without even a temperature warning on the screen. Bluetooth is on but not Wifi. Beeing in a PAL region, I cannot test in 30p and I would never film so long in 50p anyway. Note : my screen is opened.

      Try to film in XAVC HS and then tell me if you will never shoot in 50p...

    • @pierre1509
      @pierre1509 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@simoz78 It's not a matter of codec, but of personal use case. When I shoot 50p, that's for "action" and then, I don't shoot super long clips. When I film for hours, it's for shows or such, and I prefer 25p in such cases. Everybody his own needs. Very long 50p clips are not mine.
      But wasn’t overheating the point of the video ? I just wanted to tell that in PAL regions, the 25p vs 30p seems to make a huge difference. And I wouldn't have expected that.

    • @pierre1509
      @pierre1509 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And regarding overheating, I've just run a quick test with 50p XAVC-HS (not S) 422 10bits (200Mbps) and it did record more than 35 min. The room temperature was more than 24.5°C, no air con, no fan, window and door closed so no airflow. That's well above 13 minutes in 60p (but S, not HS).
      I wonder about sample variation. Or the A6700 is better tailored for PAL 25p multiples.
