You could of course make your own, but you'd need the right materials and tools, so getting one ready made and packaged to go from MTBHopper is going to be vastly easier and more convenient of course, at a price.
WOW. I'm a woodworker, and I get the lower price for the small one. Somewhere around $300USD would be what I would charge to make a small one. But these are clearly CNC machined, which means that the large one isn't much harder or more costly to make. I would still charge more, like maybe $500 for the largest one, because you need a large format CNC machine to cut parts that size, and those machines are a serious investment. But nearly $1000 isn't something I'd feel justified charging. Hell though, if they can get people to buy at that price, good for them!
