Caleb Downs was shocking to watch. Out of all of the amazing players Saban has had, I've never seen one have as much of an impact as Downs has had this season. Hes a future top 5 pick and will make that defense a bitch to play against for the next two years. He just plays with so much energy and effort that it's fun to watch.
Yep, and that kind of energy and effort, and leadership, is contagious. He will make others around him better players too. If there were 6 stars for the rarest players, he'd probably be one.
Not even elite, consistently competent. Miami can win 9 games with a decent QB. Should have won that this year, if TVD hadn’t shat himself for a third of the season. Injuries didnt help but he was unplayable for that stretch.
@@Canedude08 Well, anyone that looks at Miami's losses and how TVD did in them will understand that. Miami beat Clemson and almost beat FSU with a True Freshmen QB. lol
Downs is so over rated everytime I see him he either getting trucked or missing assignments for a TD but ofc y’all think get good he plays a lot of shaping as a freshmen
He’s so offensively minded he breaks down the play in seconds and gets to the lane of rush an stops the play at the point of initial attack, if it wasn’t for the style defense Alabama runs he’d be even more impressive as far as overall solo tackles
Some lower ranked freshman that had significant impacts for their team in no specific order- Semaj Morgan-Michigan Dillon Thieneman-Purdue Byrum Brown-South Florida Tyler Brown-Clemson Parker Brailsford-Washington
Don't sleep on Kam Robinson. He got slept on a bit because UVA had a rough year (and he was overshadowed by a flashier true freshman on the offensive side in Anthony Colandrea), but he put up some really good numbers and is someone UVA could build a defense around going forward
Josh I always appreciate your insight and analysis on these players. Watching your shows makes me feel more confident talking college football around the water cooler.
Josh kinda surprised you didn’t mention “true” freshman All American Taurean York, Aggie MLB the entire season… and a 3 star. Guess he didn’t fit your theme today that more stars predict greatness. Love your show just think you missed on this one without even a mention.
look out for Brett Norfleet from Mizzou. this guy may be the best complete TE in the country in the near future. he is big , athletic, reliable and can run block really well.
A college football program is not serious about being successful unless it SERIOUSLY prioritizes having Polynesian players. Between culture, physicality, and genetics, the islands just pump out the kind of players every coach needs.
Anthony Hill wasn't even the best Freshman LB in the state of Texas but he does absolutely belong on this list. Taurean York I'm sure would've been mentioned if the segment was longer but arguably deserves to be mentioned over Hill.
Your smoking rocks yes he was. No kid has done what he has done at that position. Kid lines up all over the field. Arguably best defender on the field against Bama . Showed up and every big game. Let’s be real man! 🤘🏼
@@footballjunky9994 York was a 3 star who played Mike, made all defensive calls, and had more tackles than Hill. Like I said, it’s arguable because Hill is also insanely good and they have different roles. Being about as real as possible.
@@mcavanprice59663 tackles more and played over 100 snaps more? Nobody cares about garbage time snaps buddy. Hill changed games is what I’m telling you. Big games!
Lmao I have to see it to believe it I seen him play in the Polynesian bowl he look ok .just didn't see all the hype tennessee needs way more than nico to compete with the two upper sec teams
Tide all in the comments not one comment about AntHill. Downs played vs Hill 2nd game of the year and Hill stole the show in both their 2nd collegiate games. Downs having that big of a statistical year indicates that defense is a bit soft. Not taking anything away from Downs, I could tell he’d be an elite player eventually in that game vs Texas but he wasn’t ready for what Sark did to him week 2. Ant Hill is a stud defensive player like Downs but Texas has an overall better defense, so I think Downs contributions are better highlighted
I agree Hill outplayed Downs that day. For the year, Caleb has been a more consistent performer. Sark makes a lot of players look bad with his playcalling. Don't think I would use that as an example. Stating him leading the team in tackles means the defense is soft is about the dumbest statement I have seen. What about your starting strong safety leading you in tackles has anything to do with how tough your defense is is beyond me. But both future stars in the NFL for sure.
Caleb Downs will be a top 5 pick.
Heard a draft analyst say Downs would be a first round pick this year, if it were allowed.
Well he got picked on vs Texas
@@TheCGatyeah it was his second game in college
@@TheCGat And now he’s an AP All-American as a true freshman.
South Florida rb ran slap through him a couple of times 😂

The U 🙌🏼🌀🌴💯
The game is too slow for Caleb Downs. He reads plays instantly and his run support will bother Michigan.
Absolutely and Michigan runs in slow motion.
Miami just needs an elite QB. Miami's freshman RB, Mark Fletcher, is doing very well also.
Not even elite, consistently competent. Miami can win 9 games with a decent QB. Should have won that this year, if TVD hadn’t shat himself for a third of the season. Injuries didnt help but he was unplayable for that stretch.

Caleb Downs is a superstar right out of the gate, long as he stays on track and doesn’t get hurt. He’s gonna be The Man. RTR 🐘🏈🐘🏈🐘🏈
EW3 got snubbed... c'mon Josh. Always found you to be unbiased
Caleb Downs for sure
York was a starting middle linebacker in the SEC all season and was a freshman all American while being a 3 star.
Anthony Hill Jr will be a beast as his college career goes forward. I won't be surprised if he goes top 5 in his NFL draft
The []_[] vs everybody baby! We are young and hungry
And hungry and hungry and hungry
Jahiem white freshman rb all American from west virginia.
clemson had 5 freshman all american btw on multiple sites
Downs is so over rated everytime I see him he either getting trucked or missing assignments for a TD but ofc y’all think get good he plays a lot of shaping as a freshmen
All those names on one team would be INSANE.
Eric Singleton jr at GT. One of the most if not the most promising true freshman WR in the FBS
Caleb Downs is gonna be a superstar (even if he went to my high school alma mater’s rival).
He’s so offensively minded he breaks down the play in seconds and gets to the lane of rush an stops the play at the point of initial attack, if it wasn’t for the style defense Alabama runs he’d be even more impressive as far as overall solo tackles
Bet Georgia wishes he was next to Malaki starks......
Gooooo Canes!!!!!
Anthony Hill Jr DFOY🤘🏼Alabama game was so early 😢Two sacks on third downs
Some lower ranked freshman that had significant impacts for their team in no specific order-
Semaj Morgan-Michigan
Dillon Thieneman-Purdue
Byrum Brown-South Florida
Tyler Brown-Clemson
Parker Brailsford-Washington
Kevin Concepion gets no love smh
Caleb Downs, and i dont think its close! No disrespect to the other incredible freshman.
Anthony hill is the best freshmen tbh
Rolando mclain led bama in tackles as a frosh im almost possitive in 2009. Great show.
If Miami had Hill Jr and Bain 😱😱😱
No Eugene Wilson ?
Eugene Wilson III
LaNorris Sellers of SoCarolina is a QB to watch
No Tre Wilson? Lol
KC Concepcion??
Go canes!
Zac Branch
TJ Parker 🐅
tre wilson was the best player on the gators (not saying much but still)

No love for any of the Clemson freshmen.
No.
Nic Anderson Oklahoma
🙌🏾
Offense: KC Concepcion at NC State
Defense: either Caleb downs at Bama or Anthony Hill Jr. at Texas
Caleb diagnoses plays so well. One of the plays I highlighted from the Georgia game where he blows up the stretch play is a prime example..
👍🏻👍🏻
Eric Singleton Jr from Georgia Tech
Who’s better then Bain
Yepppppp!
Tre Wilson and Jordan Castell??

Hey Josh, you forgot the mention Miami's THIRD Freshman All-American...punter Dylan Joyce.
The U is represented in all three phases of the game!
Nick saban like shut up i dont need my best player leaving for NFL no time soon 😂😂😂

Probably not better than any of the players mentioned here, but WR Eugene Wilson at Florida was and will be a stud
Jedd Fisch will be the savior of the Florida gators
CB Avieon Terrell 🏝
DB Khalil Barnes
I know you only have a certain alloted time, but not mentioning Tre Wilson from Florida is a little disrespectful
😂
Tyler Brown Clemson
