I've had this game forever, along with a decent PC (upgraded to a 4090) but too lazy to learn the curves and to fly. This gives me reason to get started. Thank you!
Played this game for years as an avid player (4 to 6 hours a day )and stopped when they messed up mining as that was my 99% concentration. Saw Red mining last night on a video and it looks like it has been improved and decided to give the game another shot. Came back to find my Thrust Masters didn't work and needed reset ( a long time to set up, grrr} ) decided to fly to Arc L1 to transfer ships and equipment there. Found that none of my C8's could be entered. Had to do a character reset to repair that. Just went on this morning and decided to fly with keyboard and mouse to do a trial mining run before spending time setting up equipment again. Been so long since I used keyboard I couldn't take off from the hanger. LOL Thxs for the refresher course, I now feel I can return and give it a go. A well done video Kind Sir. I'm 76 years old so I guess the motto is "Old Farts should stay on the ground" ;)
Thanks for the video! You covered the most essential things, but seems you missed decoupled mode, which is also quite useful, though sometimes not a trivial thing to understand. The most basic explanation of it could be such: in coupled (default) mode, you ship computer will "couple" your momentum exactly to what you controls are. If you are not explititly accelarating, the computer will decelarate you. This is actually what keeps you on a fixed hieght under gravity. "Decoupled" is the oppoiste and is kinda a free-fly: if you gained some speed and no longer accelarate, the ship will keep it's momentum. Both these modes can be useful either in gravity and space. For example, in gravity it will allow you to just fall without the waste of fuel. Or coupled mode is still useful in space if you need some precise movements and don't want the momentum to unintentioanlly hit you into something.
Glad to hear that - When I first released it I got a lot of positive comments, but lately people have been kinda rude lol - Its nice to see that it actually is still helping people.
I watch a lot of your farm vids, I didn’t know you played this game! I used to play a lot but haven’t in a while been waiting on salvage to be able to use my reclaimer
Everything worked perfectly until it was time to return to New Babbage. When I arrived at the planet I got a yellow house icon on the planet and when I approached it to the surface ... it was an empty ice field. I'm thinking the station was maybe actually on the other side of the planet ? I ran out of time and ended up just logging off. Did I miss another quantium jump ? Back today to figure out what I did wrong. Your video was super helpful ... maybe you could do a return trip to the planet video ? Pretty sure I'll figure it out before then, but it may help others in the future. Thanks for the help !!
I can agree, that it can be challenging at first to land, including finding at least where to land. I myself started recently on New Babbage, and it was tough at first to land, especially because it was night.
Thanks, this video was really helpful. I started playing the game today. After making my first 2 deliveries for a total of 6000 credits I returned to Orison and while in the F1 menu trying to ask permission to land I heard the noise of an alarm and something flashing red. After quickly leaving the menu I had spawned somewhere in Orison and my ship was impounded, to get it back I had to pay 5000 so there goes my earnings of the day. And I assume I have a criminal record now, is there any way to figure out what I did wrong?
ok, so I am pretty sure that you ended up blocking another ships port - you must have stopped in front of an active bay. This sucks, but there is a free easy fix. Just wait for the impound period (usually one or two hours) and DON'T pay the ticket. After the time expires, you will get your ship back for free. Also, parking violations don't carry any criminal stat, so you should be fine. Hope that helps!
@@kingarthursims At least I am not a criminal, good to hear that. And maybe I was blocking another port, I do always take my time landing being a beginner. I'm not giving up on the game, it really looks good but the rules are not clear for a noob like me. Will undoubtedly get better. Thanks for responding!
I dropped the $1100 for the Anvil Carrack Expedition along with a few other nice ships like the Terrapin, Freelancer, Drake Corsair and they even give me a fancy pistol and the title "High Admiral" .. this game is fun... I'm liking it WAY more than Starfield honestly.
Glad to hear that - I am enjoying Starfield, but it is definitely a much different and less "simulator" type game. Star Citizen is where I come to actually fly spaceships and hopefully eventually launch a career hauling or scavenging, or maybe even as an ambulance service. Its much more of a "life in space simulator". Starfield is where I go for RPG story time and when I want to kill a bunch of stuff.
I just started playing this a few days ago and boy is this a hard game to get into, especially flying and I find navigation terribly difficult. I have now managed to do a few simple box missions but then I wasn't sure how to get back to my initial launch site ... using F2 was a confusing thing as it didn't tell me where my "home" (if we even have one I dont know) is. So I had to land at another unfamiliar station altogether. So how do you navigate to stations then? And I hailed one on comms and it said land at such and such a place, but I had literally no indication where to go ... super frustrating.
I can see I need to add more - Hang tight - in the next month or two everything is changing - They are adding a brand new map system and navigation system and I will update this. Here are some additional tips - 1. Each planet has a station above it - When you jump to the planet keep your jump computer on. once the system has recharged, look around the planet and you will see a square symbol (with rounded edges) - This is the station above the main city. The main city on the planet will be a "Baseball Home Base Diamond" shape, and all other planet facilities will be stop sign shapes. Diamonds are other space objects like becons and statellites. You can jump to any of these by aiming and let the jump charge up. 2. Most Lagrangian Wells (L1, L2 and so forth) have R and R stations. They are marked on the map as HRU-L1, MIC-L4, CRU-L1 and so forth. You will need to use the space map to set them on your route and then jump to them as show in the video around 15:30. In the video in this segment I also show you how to navigate directly to the station and how to land - but once you get clearance to land you should have a circle with a down arrow in it appear on your hud. That indicator points to the place they want you to land. As a side note, when you approach cities, you have to get pretty close to the spaceport to get the icon to show. Its best when landing on a planet spaceport to wait until you are less than 5000 away to contact the spaceport. 3. Your "home" is the planet you chose to start on. When you first load the game and go to the start screen it will tell you what system and planet you are starting on, but honestly, you can make your home at any station - that is for another day. For now just use the planet you initially chose as a home base. Its not very important once you get going. Hope that helps!
@@kingarthursims Thank you for taking time with that! I will look forward to map changes then. I think it would be über useful if we had an option to type into a map search bar the name of your destination. A dynamic list would pop up based on what you've typed in so you see the planet/destination easily ... then r click (or whatever option) to set the ship's nav to that location. This would be so useful. Right now I don't even know where to look on the star map for a place, so when I've done one of my noobie box missions I'm faced with a ton of systems but not much clue where my base is. If you're able to do an idiot's guide, then me and lots of other new starters would be very grateful. There's other things to worry about later, like how do you equip a rifle quickly that's on your back without having to press I for the inventory ... plus food and medical stuff ... but for now I'm going to be satisfied understanding the navigation issue. Baby steps :-) Thank you !!
As for me, I pledged the game initially 2 years ago without any big expectations. Just to get access to it and see, what it is. It's also worth saying, that back then I gave up very quickly, because the game was literally unplayable to me due to a lot of game breaking bugs. But to my surprise, this time making another try, the gameplay seems very smooth to me. At least now it really playable technically and I can finally enjoy the flights and missions.

Welcome to star ciitzen! If you don't land and sleep in your ship (bed log) you will end up back where you started and your stuff will be gone. There is no point telling you how to get your stuff back, because all of the inventory system is going to change in the next 2-3 weeks with patch 3.24. So whatever I say here will be wrong.
First time n space and someone wouldn’t leave me alone shooting at me n shit for 20 mins until something happened and I started spinning and now my screen is black
I have run into that sometimes. - you could also "blip" you power off - sometimes this will allow you to start falling and then the engines kick back in and keep you from a full on crash.
@@kingarthursims Tried that too my dude, I still crashed causing slight damage to my ship lol All good though. My first problem trying to land was to do with cruise control. What they don't tell you is that if you have cruise control on, but not active as such, you cannot descend.
Yes the landing stuff is pretty broken right now. Sometimes if you Left Alt + N over and over you will get a pad, but sometimes is glitches and they try to impound you. Hope it gets fixed soon.
I wish I could play this game but it's a buggy mess for me and I've spent like 90% of my solo gameplay going from the station habitat to my ship then crashing...
really? I experience about 1 crash per 30 hours of gameplay or more. I am wondering if maybe you have an interent or hardware issue... I run into other bugs occasionally, but actual game stopping crashes are super rare.
@@kingarthursims at least we know what we're getting into when he play this game unlock released games that are so broken granted its a huge world and every ship has an interior that's extremely detailed thanks for content as well
haven't played this for about 4 years come back to it and it has the worst controls of any space sim, And I been playing them since elite on the commodore 64.
Once you get down, its not bad, but yeah there are a LOT of controls. Im up there with you on vintage stuff. My first space game was moon patrol lol - and Zaxxon. They certainly have come a long was since wing commander.
There was a lot of helpful information in this video, but also a lot of useless information. Please take this as constructive criticism. The problem is that you don't like to stay on topic. I get the coms information, the gas, and repair tutorials within the tutorial cause all that is synonymous with piloting and navigating the ship. Mentioning the cargo bay or lack thereof, bed or sleeping quarters, what will become available when you progress through the game, all that extra stuff is going off-topic. What could have been a 10-15 minute video is now close to a 30-minute tutorial. I appreciate mentioning the bugs and glitches because knowing how to correct those is always valuable information, even if it is a little off-topic. In conclusion, it is okay to go a little off-topic, but straying too far off-topic is annoying when there is too much unrelated information.
Thank you for the CC - I definintely get off topic a lot. The good news is that this video will get pulled and remade when the new nav system is employed and I will shorten it up then.
Holy fuck. I just want to know how to enter atmosphere without blowing up why is every video 20 minutes long to explain how fucking pitch and yaw works and the scientific breakdown of the fucking fuel.
NAVIGATION in Star Citizen still SUCKS. Seriously . I've been playing about a month. The Quantum drive navigation is about the dumbest thing I've ever seen in video games in 30 years. HOW THE FUCK TO DO DISCERN MARKINGS ON THE PLANET??? DUMB DUMB DUMB! Ground navigation is non-existent on foot with no compass. At least the flying around is cool but playing this as an explorer trying to navigate around a planet or on the planet itself on foot or in ground vehicle ABSOLUTELY SUCKS.
The good news - they are completely redoing it all, so hopefully the next iteration will be better. From what I have seen at this years Star con, it looks like it will be much improved.
0:26 Seconds in and already screaming shut up and just show us! I cannot stand someone doing a tutorial and just rambling on rather than getting to thew point
I must admit I can not understand how this game lacks a basic onboarding guide till you're in Space. there's so much shit and they just throw you in the deep end. It's really not a way for new players to experience a game . Not to mention the outright horrific optimization
Once again, you are not thinking of this correctly. This is an alpha. There are no guides, demos or manuals because the game is still several years off from being done. Many of the current systems in the game will be different or completely gone by the time the game actually comes out. It does not make sense to make directions when its not even a beta game yet. When they get closer to being done they will make the appropriate tutorials/videos/in game onboarding, but as things stand even basic systems like the map and how ships navigate/travel are going to be completely different than they are now. Optimization is also nowhere near done - the upcoming 3.18 is only just introducing graphics optimization into the game and its just a starting step with many steps planned. "its not a game, its an alpha" - please get out your chalkboard and write that 100 times. I promise it will help your soul, lol.
@@kingarthursims sureeee 10 years later . With a half a billion dollars in funding for said game. Stop defending them. Fact is the game lacks a lot of basic shit that should be there

@@kingarthursims yep, usually I get to the upper atmoshpere and then it crashes which is at least 5 min of wasted time.
How the lag these days it's a great game
I don't have too much lag - my PC is pretty buff. That said the bunker missions are now terrible. the AI lag like crazy, so there is that.
@@kingarthursims at least we know what we're getting into when he play this game unlock released games that are so broken granted its a huge world and every ship has an interior that's extremely detailed thanks for content as well
Lol, how to fly your ship, but I don't know what buttons to press. Is this a troll?
? What are you on about?
haven't played this for about 4 years come back to it and it has the worst controls of any space sim, And I been playing them since elite on the commodore 64.
Once you get down, its not bad, but yeah there are a LOT of controls. Im up there with you on vintage stuff. My first space game was moon patrol lol - and Zaxxon. They certainly have come a long was since wing commander.
I keep getting impounded because I'm too slow
If your at new babbage, thats a bug - when the game is working right you won't get impounded for being in the hanger.
@@kingarthursims ty. So many buttons lol 🥴
Second
The worst thing about this game is there's no clear tutorial and you end up watching hours of long winded videos
Thanks for the feedback James - I will keep that in mind when this gets updated to the new navigation system.
Holy fuck. I just want to know how to enter atmosphere without blowing up why is every video 20 minutes long to explain how fucking pitch and yaw works and the scientific breakdown of the fucking fuel.
because controlling pitch and yaw keep you from entering atmosphere without blowing up.
Thanks im in jail now
What did you do?
Cool. Well thankfully your on TH-cam where you can find other tutorials that match your style. Have a nice day and thanks for the feedback.
Travel times are to long, it's taking the realism to far.
lol, wait until we get interstellar travel. I don't mind the travel times -its what makes this game unique.
Your terrible at this.. You press the R key not the U key to prepare for launch. The U key only turn on power
Thanks - you should try making them since you are so much better at it :P
