Pompano Float Beads; Secrets or Hype?

- I'm always hearing talk of how important floats are while Pompano fishing. The word is that all the gurus use secret color combinations and different beads so in this video we test out if it really matters! There's so many options and combinations when it comes to colors and shapes with these float beads so I decided to put a different bead on each of the three hook rigs. On the other hand, I've already discovered that nearly ALL goofy jig colors get bit in other videos. Tune in and watch us slay some Pomps on live sand fleas!

All gear used in the Video for tossing Sandfleas super far was: Okuma Cortez rods and Okuma Tesoro reels or Cortez 5s reels.
I've spent years on the water testing out bead/float colors, and have concluded that it does not matter as much as people think it does. An advice that one of my commercial buddies told me was that having the right bait at the right time is the biggest key to a successful day of fishing. You could go out with the most special colored floats in the world rigged with fresh fleas, but if fish are zoned in on crabs that day, then you won't even get a hit. In the end, it's about being at the right place at the right time, with the right bait. Great informative video, and kudos to you for using hook and line to catch fresh pomps. Subbing now.
Joey came in clutch with the live fleas! Usually we have fleas and clams along with fish bites and that covers all the bases!
@@CaptMattBudd ..I have to agree.....the only consideration for surf fishermen is water color....I use white floats they do the job....in all conditions.....

Wish I could try fish gum, always sold out online at your store. I'm here in NE Florida and can't find it. Using Fishbites since it's all I can find, of course sand fleas always kill it, but sometimes the fish want color.
So you never said what baits or what color floats worked best, and I had to endure 15 damn commercial breaks, to realize that!

They all worked the same. As long as they're kept off the bottom and away from the crabs. I think the key is having the right size.

I use 30lb fluorocarbon leader and between 12"-18" of it.
Awesome vid just found your channel and subbed. I fish on the NC obx and my go to colors are pink and white, chartreuse and orange, and rainbow scale. 3/8 x 3/4. All of them with a orange 8mm faceted bead. Walleye supply has the best selection that I've found. Love me some pompanos!! I hope someday I'll be able to come down and fish around sebastian inlet. If I do I know who I'm gonna look to charter!

My question is how many Pompano did you keep and never seen you guys measure the first fish . Don`t know what state your fishing in but I thought in Florida your able to keep 10 per person and I don`t what the size is without looking it up . But you did have at least 3 people on the boat fishing . And please put the gaff up at one point it was in the middle of the floor behind the Capt. Ok nice catch of fish . Pompano , Bone fish , Lady fish had a selection .
I'm a commercial fisherman my limit isnt 10 per person, it's 250. The size is 11" to the fork which is literally tiny. Very rarely do we catch short pompano that time of year.

I have using wine corks. Holds the hook off the bottom from the crabs 🦀 But I have found BAIT is the most important.

What is ice? My fish houses that pay me $7 a lb for pompano request that I use no ice and let my fish rot. 😂

Yes fish at a local beach. Surf fishing is very productive. Check with local tackle shops and ask the best ways to catch them in your area!

I've been told there are mostly groupers, mullets, tunnies and sea breams.
Cool videos 🎣 do you use those floats for other species? For instance mangrove etc.
Never tried it. I just use them for pompano bc it keeps the bait off the bottom and away form crabs. 🦀

I have a friend that does well on both pompano and permit off the beach with them. He carves and ties his own floats and rigs. He slams them on them.

They are docs goofy jigs. Most tackle shops carry them.
Get the ones with the fly stinger attached some days they prefer the stinger fly and will out fish you if you don't. Some days they don't seem to care..

Apply for a SPL first. Catch jacks and sandperch to earn your RS permit. That's how I got mine!
