Your Pompano rigs are truly a treasure as far as fishing rigs go. Three weeks ago, I caught whopper size black drum, speckled trout, whiting, northern kingfish and bluefish right in the surf on crab flavored fish bites and squid, all off the coast of the Carolinas!
You're absolutely right about dead shrimp. There's really little to no need for fancy stuff (but we all have it and always buy more stuff...), I've caught more bull reds, sheepshead, flounder and specks on dead shrimp than anything else in 30 years of inshore fishing.
You quickly became our favorite fishing channel to watch and learn from. Thank you for the explanations you give and for filming with your mom as well. A strong family bond, God bless you and your family.
All of your videos are great, but this one is one of my favorites. Fishing on the last day of the year in the sand for pampano that brings me a lots of memories, from my childhood all the way to the adult life. Thank you very much for making videos in different places.

I’m from Washington state , here in mobile visiting family. Trying to learn how to catch pompano for my grandson.found your video very informative. We went down to Pensacola fishing for pompano’s,with your help we were successful. Thank you . Happy grandpa, and grandson.
Was in gulf shores the day you caught these and was the first time I had ever seen the ocean at 46! I absolutely love Alabama and want to return to fish soon! Came across your videos and pun intended but I'm hooked!! New subscriber! Great vids!
I try to fish 🐟 January 1st every year to start the year off right but it was about 18degrees here in Arkansas so I had to pass but will be out there soon love your videos and may God Bless thanks brother
My smallest surfcaster is 13ft rod. I use mainly for live bait slide rig. Height advantage on wharf/jetty/bridge keeps big game fish off surrounding structures, such as surfcasting off the rocks. Also, controlling where you want to set the live bait to be, plus it's possible to cast live bait fish on a slider rig.
You got me with this video. Pompano are delicious and my favorite saltwater fish to catch. I'm on the Atlantic coast this winter so learning the ropes compared to the Gulf. Thanks .
We completely missed any pompano run when we were in Destin in September. I hope we can get back down there in the spring to try for the spring run. Great video!! Happy new year!!
Coming to the Gulf Shores in about 2 weeks, from the Midwest and going to try my hand at surf fishing. Enjoying your videos for tips on doing this, keep up the good work.
My husband & I watch your videos almost every night! We are visiting Gulf Shores in April. Do you ever take anyone out fishing? My husband wants to meet you & to fish with you. - Brandi, Michigan 2-9-23
Greetings from South Africa, Uvongo, KZN, South Coast. Great video!❤ Our waters have been destroyed by sewage pollution. A lack of concern by our government. Corruption and bad maintenance has lead to break down of service delivery. It breaks my heart to see a beautiful Coast get wrecked by people who don't care for the environment. I would love to fish where you are located. Peace to you and God bless!
I love your videos they’re very informative and I’m learning a lot about certification in Alabama just move back home after 60 years in Southern California get some surf fishing in California but I’ve yet to do in Alabama but I really like your videos I’m learning a lot thank you very much 15:24
Nice video... Informative with lots of little tips and tricks thrown in everywhere that I think some content providers just skip over and just show themselves catching fish... keep going with it...!!
It will definitely slow down with the change in atmospheric pressure and dropping temps. The whiting will continue to bite along with Red and Black Drum in the surf. Ghost Shrimp will be the ticket in the colder and clearer water with these upcoming cold fronts.
Amazing content. I’m a beginner and following all your suggestions and tips for fishing. Could you also suggest where to buy sand stands/sticks for fishing polls 🙏. What kind? There are so many variations….
Yeah that’s pretty cold. South Korea got that way when I was there for 9 months. Extremely hot monsoon seasons to a freezing cold harsh winter. Germany was pretty cold as well. Haven’t been up north US much but have definitely trained in my fair share of cold haha. Not my favorite
I used to live on Jaco Beach in Costa Rica and I'd go surf fishing every evening. I use a cast net in the estuary to catch mullet for bait but I rarely caught anything. One evening I threw my net in the estuary and I caught over a dozen shrimp, so I used them as bait. I caught eight pompano in a couple of hours. And nothing is too small to get eaten in Costa Rica.
I really enjoyed your video! I'm coming to Gulf Shores next week (9-10-2022) for a family get together and hope to spend most of my time on the beach surf fishing. I've caught a few pompano on past trips (Delicious!) but the hardheads always steal my bait. I hope I can pick up some of those fish bites or fish gum when I'm down there. Besides pompano, I hope to land a shark using live mullet (I was able to catch them last time using my cast net). I hooked something big on the mullet, but it broke or cut my line. I suppose I need steel leaders if I try for a shark. LOL.
Which Van Staal are you using? Also, what is your thoughts on longer rods like 10 & 11 footers? I have a 9’ and an 8’ but I’m just getting into surf fishing so I’m learning.
It's the Van Staal 100 X Series Bail less. But I do own a 150 as well. Longer rods are nice, but I just never need them with what I do, and they're a little heavier! But they can allow you to get a longer cast. Except most of the time, you want to avoid "casting over" the fish. Thank you!
Reel: Van Staal VS100 X Series Rod: Shimano Speedmaster Surf Rod 9ft. Medium Moderate Action Line: 20lb. Braided backing, with a 100yd Diamond Monofilament TopShot
It's a Casio. It's a classic watch that has been around a while! I love it. I wore a G-Shock while in the Army but wanted something classier as a civilian and this fits the bill (without spending an arm and leg haha) amzn.to/3HsBxwh

I've eaten tons of freshwater flathead, blue and Channel cats and tried a saltwater hard head just for kicks since everyone says they're horrible and it has a lighter flavor than freshwater catfish. It's a good one for people that are picky about "fishy" tasting fish. Kinda like the light beer of fishes.
I was alway told that the saltwater catfish are not good to eat unless it is a gaftop catfish. Do you eat any of the saltwater catfish you catch? Maybe you will target the saltwater catfish on an outing. Catch some, clean them, cook them and eat them. Thanks, JimmyD
The Gafftop is the better one to eat, if you were to eat one. But they're both edible, just not something I personally go out and target except for a video ! One of these days, I'll do a catch and cook on a few! Thank you

Yes we want to see you do a hard head catfish catch & cook!
For sure! I look forward to one!
@@BamaSaltwater I want to see you nail a hardheaded catfish to a tree as soon as you get done nail a Jell-O mold to a tree.
Oof... Ate one fried and cleaned and it was pure ass 😂😂😂
The meat is terrible
I have eaten salt water catfish all kinds

Awesome! Absolutely love Pomps! Happy New Year!
Wow you are correct regarding the luxury cart. $475 is very expensive for a regular fisherman.

Pompano is my favorite to catch!
On the Pacific, I found flattened tear drop weights that stayed put and sailed out there pretty good for casting.

I'm 6'4" so I made a longer handle on my cart plus I added another axle with 2 more wheels at the front. SO much better.

I'm happy to share ! Thanks !
The fact you recommended polarized I think makes a huge difference in beginners spotting locations as well
Great video! I caught a bunch of those hardhead catfish when I road tripped down.
Thanks, yeah they can be thick sometimes !

I will be doing this tomorrow in PCB. Wish me luck! Thanks for your tips!
Flounder catch n cook. I have had frozen flounder in my freezer waiting for a good recipe. You are in a t-shirt & the high here is in the 20s.
Awesome video! I definitely need some of the single drop rigs.
They're available exclusively on my website here: bamasaltwater.com/shop/ols/products/single-drop-pompano-rig
So ready to catch pompano this year. Thanks for great video man, im so ready to head out to pin and catch some fish.
Happy New Year! Another great video. I am going have to try your rigs.
Thank you!
I caught one pompano in the surf and pound for pound similar to a bluegill!! Great fish!!
Wow! A limit of pomps on new years eve, IMPRESSIVE! Way to rap up the year man!

Great video with some good info on how to fish for Pompano, good tips and tricks and solid fish!!!
Thanks! They're delicious , fun fighting fish for sure
I’m in Gulf Shores now. Gonna be doing some surf fishing while I’m here. And also trying the pier.
After the cold front do you think things will slow down?

Great vid! Good pics of the pomp’s, too. 20K just around the corner!
Appreciate it !! and yupI very Blessed for sure! Just over a year is pretty cool! Thank you for the comment.
Great video brother. Thank you for the info
Awesomeness brother
Great video, nice fish. Nice looking looking van staal. What size is it?
Thank you for watching and it's a Van Staal 100, perfect for the surf.
Totally awesome, can I catch them in Mobile?✔
Hey Bama please tell me what you know about a out of state salt water license thanks brother
Not for sure! Best to go online and find out on the OutdoorAlabama website !
Thanks for sharing tips an telling about your riggin
Love your video's!! What was the make of 2nd reel that you were using?
Are those Van Staal reels? Nice tips for winter pomp fishing. I will be on a Tampa beach tomorrow hoping to catch dinner.
One of them is a Van Staal 100 X Series, my other is a Shimano Stradic 5000 , Good luck!!
i added a handle vertical extention piece on my rig so i dont bend over so much when i pull it on the sand
Awesome videos as always. Don’t change and tight lines 💪💪💪
Appreciate it much! Glad you enjoyed it

Caught my first keeper pompano the other day ! I was jacked
Heck yeah ! Awesome
Cold... You don't know cold until you have been in Wenatchee and going from a high of 117 this summer to -9 so far for the low in 2021 on Dec 26.

One that bites! I just love surf fishing...... next best thing, for me, to catfishing for some big flathead.

is it ok to freeze bluefish ?
What mode reel is that silver one you use with a nice shiny look and wheel for the knob??
It's a shimano stradic 5000 spinning reel

We are down here at gulf state park for the week. Would you recommend this same setup for this time of year?
So what type of set up do I need? Like a good all-around rod plus reel etc. ????
What reel are you using ? Thanks.

Im in Oregon a surf perch fish, I use a 3 hook dropper loop. I wonder if your rig will work since im not very good at making the dropper loops lol
Oh yeah! I don't typically tie a 3 drop for convenience but the double drop works great!
I have eaten both the saltwater hard head and gafftop catfish the hard head is not as good as the gafftop catfish would like to see how you cook them.
