I personally like both, but my main issue with the remake is well, besides the soundtrack, I have horrendous lag, even though my computer can run it, but also, I dont think that the remake is worth 60 dollars imo.
I think that the parts that looks weird in the prologue are the ones they made from scratch. Especially the part where Hannah is drinking in a very robotic way and the overdramatisation of the prank reveal. The rest seems very natural and faithful to the og. Also, the skin and clothing textures are very impressive!

Thank you Gab for having the subtitles turned on. I am the type of viewer who prefers having subtitles in gameplays so that I can understand what the characters spoke.
Crazy that you checked Emily’s car as Sam and found the little bag of undies that Emily bought on Rodeo. I always wondered where Emily left her bag. Cool detail!
I appreciate that the remake added on to the original and think most of its value lies in what’s new to this version, although the soundtrack changes weirdly bothered me (thanks sm Gab for editing the music balance!). The characters’ hair, clothes, and added details (like Hannah’s tears or the scribbles on Chris) are the visual changes I like the most
Huh okay first impression is that I think the characters' arms and legs look strangely skinny. Especially on some of the female characters with bigger chests? Also loved the song replacement in the beginning!
i think the reason the girls' chests look weird is that it feels forced yk? like how some people puff up their chests? and their shoulders are just generally smaller so it looks even weirder. also when people puff up their chests' their shoulders/arms move back aswell
I still dont understand why this game needed a remake. Didnt this game just come out a few years ago and it still holds up to at least in today's standards.
No, Supermassive Games did not do the remake. Sony owns it, and they had some kind of big falling out (which is why the Quarry was a spiritual successor, because they couldn't actually use any of the same assets from Until Dawn). Ballistic Moon did this one. I also don't like the style.
I know man, and another small detail I cannot stand is the very beginning of the classic when they are showing the butterfly effect thing, each time a choice was made there was a scream or some sound but now it’s just replaced with bad music
I wonder if there was an issue with the licensing bc it makes no sense to replace that otherwise. it's so iconic and would have gone a long way to make players feel more familiar/comfortable with the remake.
how did they manage to make it look worse than the original? everyone has been making fun of how the characters look weird and give uncanny valley vibes in the original, but they somehow managed to make the characters look even more creepy in the remaster. they look like they have unmoving porcelain doll masks on their faces the entire time, AND they all now look the same, just with different hair. that’s honestly impressive, if nothing else 😂
"they all look the same just with different hair" is possibly the most ungenerous take you could have. You don't have to like the changes, but they don't even remotely look "the same", they very much have the same "faces" as in the original.
Yknow I always thought Hannah running out into the snow was weird, but I guess after thinking about it... ALL her friends just played a really cruel prank on her and recorded it on video, maybe she wanted to just curl up in the snow and die after that :/
Characters look even more… mature now than they looked before in the original. They are supposed to be teenagers, right? Well, now they look solid 40+, compared to the original where they looked close to 30 😂 Sharp shading adds to this impression
The only guess I have regarding that is that it's to emphasize the satire of 30yo actors playing teenagers in movies. This whole game is based on movie clichés after all
Even after watching multiple playthroughs of this game in the last 10 years AND watching this live, I still watched it again now. I will never get tired of Until Dawn
I feel like the original had a very good intro, it really set the mood for the rest of it. The original had such an unsettling feel to it that always made you feel on edge, it felt like a tense movie the entire time. The remake just doesn’t capture that too well. The music for sure in the original set the creepy tone
I was practically screaming when they put Josh on his back, you don't do that to someone who's drunk! GAH! (edit: Ah thank fuck he rolled onto his side, that was gonna make me nuts lol)
It’s cool, unexpected different prologue but it’s fun to revisit the story. Although I prefer blue color palette for both light and snow, feels cozier whenever you enter a building and you can fell the true ice behind the skin, but I guess they wanted more realism as a warm light illuminates snow different.
48:40 They messed up with Dr.Hill's jumpscare so bad. In the original, he literally went into your vision but they did a cut here without him leaning forward. I loved that moment so bad.
genuinely believe the first sign of josh doing you know what iykyk (so no spoilers to new fans) is him saying he’s over his sisters’ disappearances. my brother died 6 yrs ago and ill carry it forever- i think that’s a reason i like josh so much. i relate to him that way. he was 100000% lying to chris when he said that he was over it. after so many times playing/watching it be played definitely the foreshadowing moment that sticks out to me the most
when you talked about the thing with the judge : i would guess she had no actual evidence and you can't just hand out a restraining order "because she said so".
Until Dawn holds a special place in my heart! I used to watch Markiplier play it during my study hall hour in high school and have to stop myself from gasping at the jumpscares. I love that they remastered it, and I love that Gab is playing
Man I really love watching Gab play story driven games. Gab really reminds me of my mother and sister, both who passed away a few years ago. Its really nice to "hang out" with her videos. A little saddening at the same time. Thanks gab.
05:32 OK, cool, I am not alone in this either then. I watched someone else play the remake, and I was scared that it was just TH-cam compression and his settings, but the game was so dark the whole time! I sometimes couldn't see the rooms the characters were walking in because it's just *black.* I was missing that OG lighting a lot. The whole prank set up with the new music and new editing threw me off, haha! I was not expecting it and honestly still don't know how to feel about it.
As someone who missed the original, I'm happy this got a remake solely because it means I get to experience this really popular game as a current Gab let's play. 😄Not to knock watching older play-troughs, but there's just something special and nice about watching videos as they come out and having to wait for the next part. 💖(It's funny because I never liked that with cable TV, but I think because YT videos start whenever I choose I can appreciate "non-bingeable" spaced-out content nowadays.)
Welp, 😂 that was more uncanny valley than I wanted! 😂! Everything but the character models was gorgeous! We really didn’t need a remake of this yet though did we? I mean maybe when next gen comes out, maybe. But I still will always watch Evlyn play these kinds of games! I’m just waiting for another round of Fatal Frame ❤

I think they probably shot/reshot the scenes in the prologue with different mocap actors and since they still used the original voice lines it made it look really unnatural adding additional uncanniness to the already uncanny valley lol
54:51 never really occurred before, but given what sort of prank was played on Hannah and Beth, Josh’s insistence on Chris getting with Ashley is so painful, even though I doubt Chris or Josh know the specifics. That is in addition to how awkward the way Josh says it is, which every player notices the first time around.
Love the added details and extra scenes but they should’ve kept the darkness of the original, it’s so bright she didn’t even needed the phone/flashlight to see things
I’m trying to put my finger on what it is I don’t like about the character models and I figured it out, they don’t look like the teens they’re supposed to be.
I'm sure 'technically' the graphics and things are better, but like you said, it's a hard switch for me. Extra scenes in the prologue were kinda nice for more context, but I think I still prefer the old version.
Gosh, I remember watching Sean play the original when it first came out. I thought it didn't come out that long ago, then realized its been almost 10 years XD

Maybe instead of remaking this already good game, they should put their resources into making a new better game 😭 (Still always happy to watch a Gab playthrough)
Unlike the Silent Hill 2 remake which was brilliant, this "remake" on the other hand is downright disappointing. The new dev team seems to have missed the point of the original game. Like the lighting is way off. Ruining the atmosphere. And the character models now look more fake under the new lighting. Uncanny valley galore. They also changed the coloring from blue/black to a yellowish color for some weird reason. The fixed camera angles of the original where there to make the point that you were playing a movie. Removing that in the remake, is again, missing the point or concept of what the OG devs had in mind. They released a patch recently to fix a TON of issues with the game. And they are not even done with the fixes, according to the devs. Many wonder if they just wanted to rush the game to be out before Halloween and to get people hyped about the upcoming movie based on the game. I'm sure that Gab will enjoy this one, because its a fave game of hers. But I'll skip this playthrough. Not a fan of the unnecessary changes.
As a big fan of Until Dawn, I really like what they did with the character, in other decision-based games, they never look straight when they talk to someone lmao. Love the video gab!
Oof. My uncanny valley detector is going off so badly. All the characters look 10-15 years older than they did in the last game, where they actually looked late teens-early twenties at most. Now they all look at least 30. And their smiles are so creepy. They should have spent more time tweaking the faces to look less...creepy.

I actually think the models are pretty decent and it’s more the eyes and mouth movements that are throwing me for a loop occasionally here.
That's always been my issue with their models too. The models are fine, but something about the movements at times is VERY unnatural.
I also feel like the larger chest proportions aren't well done? The shape is super weird
I'm pretty sure they all have larger boobs now😂 idk why
i think the reason the girls' chests look weird is that it feels forced yk? like how some people puff up their chests? and their shoulders are just generally smaller so it looks even weirder. also when people puff up their chests' their shoulders/arms move back aswell
I know what you mean about the arms! The girls look super disproportionate and it weird. They look more like dolls than anything.
I still dont understand why this game needed a remake. Didnt this game just come out a few years ago and it still holds up to at least in today's standards.
a few 10 years^^
@@zielona_f made 10 ish years ago... yeah that just tells you the industry asnt made progress since.
There's a movie being made so that's definitely what has prompted this.
They didn’t have to make a remake, but a remaster probably would’ve been better.
No, Supermassive Games did not do the remake. Sony owns it, and they had some kind of big falling out (which is why the Quarry was a spiritual successor, because they couldn't actually use any of the same assets from Until Dawn). Ballistic Moon did this one. I also don't like the style.
Thank you, I've been reading through the comments and it was annoying me that people keep saying "why did Supermassive remake this??"🤣 They didn't.
I can't believe they changed Beth's odd "where is my sister going", it's my third favourite line
I know man, and another small detail I cannot stand is the very beginning of the classic when they are showing the butterfly effect thing, each time a choice was made there was a scream or some sound but now it’s just replaced with bad music
No "Oh Death" song!? Ok trying to be open here but that song set the tone real quick
Agreed and it just feels weird not to have it to me.
I wonder if there was an issue with the licensing bc it makes no sense to replace that otherwise. it's so iconic and would have gone a long way to make players feel more familiar/comfortable with the remake.
They added a streamer mode that "Oh Death" isn't played on for copyright reasons.
They should have kept O Death, I hate they replaced it with a new song
@@PurpleSongbird_ They have a streamer mode that replaces copyright songs. 😊
Wow. After all these years, just now realizing how that is obviously Josh's voice on the answering machine as the detective.😅
The BEEBUS flash intro was great 😂❤
how did they manage to make it look worse than the original? everyone has been making fun of how the characters look weird and give uncanny valley vibes in the original, but they somehow managed to make the characters look even more creepy in the remaster. they look like they have unmoving porcelain doll masks on their faces the entire time, AND they all now look the same, just with different hair. that’s honestly impressive, if nothing else 😂
Different (smaller) company and about 1/3 of the development time does it.
@@sinine1100 oof that's rough
"they all look the same just with different hair" is possibly the most ungenerous take you could have. You don't have to like the changes, but they don't even remotely look "the same", they very much have the same "faces" as in the original.
Yknow I always thought Hannah running out into the snow was weird, but I guess after thinking about it... ALL her friends just played a really cruel prank on her and recorded it on video, maybe she wanted to just curl up in the snow and die after that :/
I guess the additional scene with the red cup confirms she was a bit drunk, which also explains her poor judgement.
This whole game is based on movie clichés after all
my heart exploded when bb tried to reach your face with his paw I'm gonna cry so cute T-T
I literally screamed the same thing
Yes! Always put them on their side! Or they can choke on their vomit!
It’s cool, unexpected different prologue but it’s fun to revisit the story. Although I prefer blue color palette for both light and snow, feels cozier whenever you enter a building and you can fell the true ice behind the skin, but I guess they wanted more realism as a warm light illuminates snow different.
48:40
They messed up with Dr.Hill's jumpscare so bad. In the original, he literally went into your vision but they did a cut here without him leaning forward. I loved that moment so bad.
Yeah, they also messed up the jumpscare with matt in the binoculars. They made it slower i think?
Did not ask for it, super happy to see it. Will start watching now. Thank you, Gab!
‘Hannah’
Gab- Barbarra
Made me spit out my coffee😂 such an innocent joke, but killed me lol. I miss Boomerang cartoons lolol
genuinely believe the first sign of josh doing you know what iykyk (so no spoilers to new fans) is him saying he’s over his sisters’ disappearances. my brother died 6 yrs ago and ill carry it forever- i think that’s a reason i like josh so much. i relate to him that way. he was 100000% lying to chris when he said that he was over it. after so many times playing/watching it be played definitely the foreshadowing moment that sticks out to me the most
Always happy to see Beebus in your videos. He’s such a cute kitty.
Started watching your channel when you played this for the first time so I’m loving it that you keep coming back to this game!
“We love you, Gab!” we all say together. 💛
Heck yeah ❤
when you talked about the thing with the judge : i would guess she had no actual evidence and you can't just hand out a restraining order "because she said so".
Until Dawn holds a special place in my heart! I used to watch Markiplier play it during my study hall hour in high school and have to stop myself from gasping at the jumpscares. I love that they remastered it, and I love that Gab is playing
the intro credits was really cool ngl i loved the symbolism of the characters and story
I sometimes couldn't see the rooms the characters were walking in because it's just *black.*
I was missing that OG lighting a lot.
💖(It's funny because I never liked that with cable TV, but I think because YT videos start whenever I choose I can appreciate "non-bingeable" spaced-out content nowadays.)
ok
The excitement to replay/ re-watch this game again is nostalgic yet intriguing on what new updates will be. 🖤
Welp, 😂 that was more uncanny valley than I wanted! 😂! Everything but the character models was gorgeous! We really didn’t need a remake of this yet though did we? I mean maybe when next gen comes out, maybe. But I still will always watch Evlyn play these kinds of games! I’m just waiting for another round of Fatal Frame ❤
wait did your editor have to add all the music themselves?? they absolutely NAILED the vibes each time, great job!!!
For sure, do you know what they played for the prank scene? I love the song
@@TownsendReddish i dont im sorry, but gab has a link to the music resource in the description!
38:51 😂😂😂 caught me off guard with the goodest boi
Why does this remake just look worse visually XD
Like the first one was a bit uncanny sure but the faces looked really good, here it looks like a game more
I HAVE BEEN WAITING on u to play this!!! 😍 my fave youtuber with my fave game. the glory of "just a prank, Han"! i was literally making dinner when i saw the little "just a..." on my screen and screamed the sentence, then laughed when it was correct hahaha. love yaaa, so exited!
I think they probably shot/reshot the scenes in the prologue with different mocap actors and since they still used the original voice lines it made it look really unnatural adding additional uncanniness to the already uncanny valley lol
At 59:00 Gab talks about the legal system of the US, BUT this game takes place in Canada! The mountain is in Alberta
Isnt the twins and Josh’s family name “Washington”? I thought it took place in Washington state which also has beautiful mountains
@@ead0132 nah, right before that timestamp the character is actually holding a piece of newspaper from Alberta
@@ead0132 Yeah, people can have surnames that aren't tied to a specific place :D
@@ead0132Washington is a common surname. Most don't live in Washington 😂
I must say, I really enjoyed the addition of the kitten in the lap cam more than I had anticipated. :) Great video, Gab.
I’m actually really vibing with the look and feel of the remake so far, I think nostalgia just makes it feel… odd sometimes ha
I've re-watched Gab's Until Dawn videos so many times. I'm excited to see her play the remake!!
Hannah looks like the protagonist from Silent Hill: The Short Message and now I can't unsee it lmao
Love the added details and extra scenes but they should’ve kept the darkness of the original, it’s so bright she didn’t even needed the phone/flashlight to see things
The Beebus intro was the best thing ever.
i was SO excited to see this in your play through lineup!! love watching you!! ✨
5:50 The way I gasped when I saw the Shrines album cover! Such a perfectly eerie moody album and such a time capsule for when the OG game came out 🥹
I’m trying to put my finger on what it is I don’t like about the character models and I figured it out, they don’t look like the teens they’re supposed to be.
Okay, Until Dawn is like a guilty pleasure of mine and I don't mind rewatching Gab played it over and over again
Gab!! I literally just started rewatching your playthrough from... 2020?? Perfect time to upload this!!!
freaking adore the music the editors replaced- it fits so well!!
I've been waiting for someone I like to play this! Yay!!
Alright here we go!😁 looking forward to you playing this!
Edit: I agree though that I prefer the original game than the remake. The remake is alright, but the original game is just so iconic.
I'm so looking forward to watching you play this given you're quite an avid fan of this game! I don't really derive much joy seeing people who only played the game once play the remake because they won't notice the changes as much (and also I just have so much love for my girl Em that I just can't handle see newcomers hate on her when they haven't seen her at her best)!!!
i've been holding off on watching any videos on this because i knew you would deliver thank you queen
WHAT!THERE IS AN UNTIL DAWN REMAKE SINCE WHEN??? and also why? Im still gonna watch tho
Since early October. They just want to remaster it for PS5. Addition, releasing for PC.
@@gerrylaksono1222 i see
Time to be scared shitless by the best game this developer has ever released for the second time!
@@MrPuddle01I personally found Man of Medan to be far scarier, at least the jumpscares got me much more than in this game.
@@cmdrmeldoc59 SPOILERS. the Wendigos are literally one of the scariest monsters I've seen in a game ever. This game has less jump scares but it scares you in other ways. The sheer terror that the wendigos have is insane! I watched Jack play Man of Medan and I never got scared but Until Dawn gave me night terrors for years. Sorry for the long response lol
I'm knee-deep in two other TH-cam channel playthroughs of this (one original, one remake) and I wasn't planning on adding a third to the rotation, but a Gab Smolders playthrough? Can't delay that. There's nobody on TH-cam whose opinion of the remake I'm more interested in than hers.
Sam: Did you see this view 😍
Me, looking at BB: Yeah 🥰🥰
The BB introduction just made my bad day a very good one
Loved the beebus intro 😂
Yay! Until Dawn! I've been waiting for your play through of the remake! I always love how you play these multiple choice games. I also agree with some of your initial observations about the game, like with the character models and the aiming crosshair. But I'm also still trying to keep an open mind, at least till the end to see it all as a whole. Thank you for the video, made my day a whole lot brighter (and spookier)! ❤
I agree with you on your feelings on the game. The original had such a classic vibe to it that made it feel so much more oldschool and unique
I love seeing BB just ADORING you, he's such a loving little man. My girl, Alba, is just the same with me, she loves sitting on my lap while I'm gaming and helping me out if I get stuck on a level!
I believe 'O Death' is a very old folk song and is in the public domain
There would still be a copyright on a specific recorded version of it, just like with pieces of classical music that are in the public domain.
Maybe instead of remaking this already good game, they should put their resources into making a new better game 😭
(Still always happy to watch a Gab playthrough)
Supermassive didn't make it. They don't own it anymore. Even if they did, I doubt they'll remake it~ They have other projects to do
@@MiTsuRiN09 That makes sense why it was remade, then (and poorly).
It's here, it's finally here. Just in time for the spooky season.
YES OMG I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO PLAY THIS GAB!
As a big fan of Until Dawn, I really like what they did with the character, in other decision-based games, they never look straight when they talk to someone lmao. Love the video gab!
The lighting makes the characters look like clay. Something about the reflectiveness of the skin I think
the BEEBUS flashing kdhjqAKJSH
Feels like the orginal only came out a couple years ago, excited to watch Gab play the remake. Had no idea they were making one.
Oof. My uncanny valley detector is going off so badly. All the characters look 10-15 years older than they did in the last game, where they actually looked late teens-early twenties at most. Now they all look at least 30. And their smiles are so creepy. They should have spent more time tweaking the faces to look less...creepy.
