Always baffled at how City’s defense over the years has been overlooked. They’ve been ELITE defensively almost every year of Pep
It's great, & was talked about for a little while, but it's never been quite elite, like it's 2%worse than arsenal now, they basically copied the style of 4 big cb, which is also what allows dm to get forward a touch whereas 10 years ago dm stayed put.

The big risk for City vs great defensive with a low block like RM and Arsenal last spring and Inter a few days ago who will counter well is Pep’s slow buildup play. Why? Haaland will get marked out of the game by great defenses meaning once the space in the box is gone, he’ll be double teamed by the best CBs. Fair enough. The issue is that Pep’s slow buildup play helps the opposition while hurting Haaland in that we all know Haaland can win a foot race vs nearly every defender and is lethal in 1:1 with GKs, but Pep’s slow buildup takes that away which means Haaland is completely nullified.
Effectively, whatever the opposition defense can’t cover on Haaland for opportunities, City’s slow buildup with eliminate it. We’ve seen a few times when City did allow Haaland to break the lines and have quick transitions to lethal effect. If Pep can adapt the team just a little to allow for that here and there, that could def be enough to have Haaland shine. If not, City will be plying 10 v 11 tomorrow

dfkm, Inter 22/23-24/25 are a better defensive side than Arsenal. Let alone Juventus 2015-17, Atletico 2014-2018, Liverpool 18-20. Even Chelsea 2021 are even a better defensive side.

We can't lose, that's for sure. There's no requirement to win at etihad.
But real talk, even if we nullify haaland, unfortunately I don't see us scoring at any point (hopefully, I'm proven wrong). We are struggling to create chances. Defensively solid, but going forward, we are working with scraps.

Emmmm bruv... When we drew at the Etihad we weren't relying on City to drop point. We were ahead of City on the table, Liverpool were top, we were in 2nd place and City were 3rd. What swong things in City's favor was the match week when Arsenal and Liverpool both lost at home to Villa and Palace on the same day.
I'm not sure what this narrative is on that we were chasing city and needed to beat them but went for a draw... Come on!
