Funcom's Age of Conan (now Age of Conan Unchained) has had, well, let's just say a rocky road. From launch woes, to a well liked tutorial island then a steep "fun" drop off, he'll dive in to see if the years have been kind to Conan and friends.

The reason to play this game is the unique amazing classes. Spell weaving on casters or playing a giant hammer wielding healer Bear Shaman or a melee focused mage who shapeshifts into a demon to rip apart foes is something you will not get in another game. The classes are some of the best in any game and completely worth experiencing. This game isnt a MMO id recommended staying with for years but its a gaminh experience i recommend to anyone who likes RPGs

Hey not to ruin your video, but you got it completely wrong about the game, the "kill counter" was originally released with the Onslaught update which brought in the horde mode known as Onslaught and that's where most of the kill counter stuff happens the most, also the game isn't that heavily instanced like you mentioned at 5:03, it's only instanced in the story island for story quests and multiplayer quests.
I have never played an MMO before and randomly decided to play this. And honestly, I think its epic.
As someone who ran a guild in AoC for over 9 years I disagree with most of what you've said although Funcom are still a bunch of short sighted Muppets. It doesn't look like you got out of Tortage (nursery area) or played any of the group content. Your comment about the bosses not having challenging mechanics is nonsense. The group and raid bosses can be incredibly challenging precisely because their mechanics, buffs and debuffs are unique and change and escalate during the fight. All of them are different and require tight co-ordination to take down.
A lot of the content has been opened up to all players via group finder for raids and instances and there's a monthly world boss that players can kill for decent loot without thinking too much. You do need to work hard to get the real rewards through guild raids and instances though. There's also city building in the resource areas, and once they're done they're glorious. It is still a decent game with a few issues - usually solved by using 3rd party guild bots. Custom UIs are also available.
The atmosphere and the alignment to Conan lore is incredible. The downside is that Funcom took so bloody long to get it to that state and then they abandoned it as a cash cow. They do that with all their games before it's due. As for the launch - well the less said about that the better. I love AoC - but I hate Funcom.
If you're a new player then AoC has a ton of stuff to offer and most of it is open to free players. The instances are superb and challenging although you can still get the flavour and decent rewards from the community based group content. There are still new guilds being formed and quite a few of the old guilds still exist. Bear in mind that there's no pay to win - just cosmetics - that's the way it should be.
Incidentally, the reason Craig Morrison left the company was due to the state of the game at launch and his inability to resolve it. That was under his watch and he deserved to go.
Rise of the Godslayer is the best expansion for any game I ever played.
Just started playing this a couple days ago and I’m having a blast so far.
It's not a perfect game, but it's still iconic enough that I keep going back to it. It has that raw, gritty, rude, and wild aspect that I don't get anywhere else.
Also.. free accounts get one character, not two. I haven't decided if it's better to sub to get 8 while subbed, or just pay a fee to get extra slots. One extra character is the same as one month sub more or less. But having the sub also raises gold cap, so you can actually buy a horse.
I think this game does live up to 2023 on a F2P game as there is really very little that stands up to it thats F2P and you can play all content. If you compare it to other F2P MMO like star trek online its right on par.
That's a fair point. I think if there was something to breathe something new into AOC, it could have a small renaissance. I just think Funcom has moved on and that's also fair, too.
@@Damionxmarious Yup they have moved on for sure. Why update a game that F2P and you wont make alot of money from. But the question was is it worth playing in 2023 and I think it is especially for free. Last news post for the game was end of 2020. But its fair to say there will be no more content however there is alot of content there after 14 years as well.
you cant play all content, you need to buy the xpac and some of the dlc, but there is a complete package which got everything

fair review. but honestly its a bit harsh considering the era AoC was developed and launched in. the game was too ambitious and too large a scope really - and thus each aspect of the final product was spread a bit thin. This review judges the game with 2023 eyes. Also... Warcraft, duh.
Night mode is only on Tortage and part of getting of the starting island

Playing Conan Exiles, makes me wish Age of Sorcery has some form of magic combat balance with warriors and rogues in exiled lands (As well Succubus minion of course😏), as well find it funny there is no full nudity in this game in comparison to the future younger brother that is Conan Exiles.

Hi might be a bit late on response if you still have found help on font's size maybe try third party UI like strange UI or some other one u might like. hope this help if u ingame look for zephalos or sephalos those characters I tend to be log on. Free Hyboria
I remember playing this game on release got my necromancer to lvl 80 (I think thats lvl cap) but never did the raids or the expansion pack. I can see why it would feel dated now.
Same, 30 free days came with the game and by 22 i was 80, and they didnt really have end game stuff so i left. My bro stayed for a year or two and said end game was expanding, but i felt like i 'beat' it and had fun without needing to subscribe
The raids were all broken when the game first came out anyway. And none of the stats on the gear even did anything.
Maaaaan, I remember playing the beta back then. I wonder if my account still exists. I miss chopping off heads with my HOX.
I would love if Funcom made a new proper Conan open world mmorpg but we know they won't make it anymore. Their Conan Exiles makes them a lot of money.
Rather a new expansion to age of Conan or new content patch but that will never happen either.

Not really. Exiles a survival game rather than an MMO, although they've introduced raids there as well now.
Hopefully they are making Age of Conan 2 now that 10cent owns them
Final fantasy online has a boring end game honestly and as far as elder scrolls online the constant weapon swapping takes away from the fun they need to remove the weapon swapping and buff class spells that would greatly improve the game
This guy didn't lvl enough to give a "worth playing review". The crafting and PvP part of this game is ultimately what became Conan Exiles. This and Ever quest 2 lasted well for saying it was going up against the wrath of WoW at the time, which is longer than most new MMO's can even do today. Hop on Hop off? well that's how moden Final Fantasy and Wow is Now, no MMORPG was ever Hop on Hop off.
It's beyond me how this game managed to survive this long....
When you compare it to whats out now I don't wonder actually. We have alot of bad games around and not very many good ones. DAOC, EQ, EQ2, and many more are still running it doesn't surprise me at all when the game is free 2 play. Name a better F2P MMO that is not restricted to unplayable? While this game only lets you have 2 characters it really doesn't block you from all content and thats a HUGE deal. If your not a F2P person then you will not understand and your point is very valid.
Find another MMO with the beautiful sound tracks for the playfield as well as combat system like this MMO and I will pay you 100bucks, not to mention it is based off of Robert E. Howards IP. What Funcom has done to the players and the veterans of this wonderful game is very disrespectful and yet they have the audacity to make advertising campaigns about their newer project DUNE and Conan Exiles. However people who payed for the subscription of the Age of Conan for a long time have not forgotten how they were treated and left out!
I am glad it did. Most mmos are way too easy and safe.
It’s an awful game shielded by amazing lore and armed with a few mechanical gimmicks that keep pulling me back in.
I think the have to do a AoC 2.. They could make it so good, Ive seen Conan Exiles Combat & Graphics. They have alot good stuff they can take from there (:
As well if they add full nudity, Conan Exiles did get a lot of attraction with that alone.
