Members of the farmworkers’ movement were committed to nonviolence amidst danger on the picket lines. Singer-songwriter Joan Baez was one of those peaceful protesters.
"I've always been the happiest when I was doing activism and music at the same time,” said Baez. “So that was an obvious place for me to be, with Cesar."

Today is the Birthday of Joan Baez. I was there when she protested the Vietnam War at a Church in Sau Salito California when a member of each branch of the Armed Forces chained themselves together inside the church--the military MPs came in and broke the chains and dragged these young deserters off to jail. Joan never stopped protesting that immoral war and we should all be very proud of her leadership. Happy Birthday Joan. I am Jim McKernan, a Vietnam War Vet and Professor living in Kerry Ireland, and North Carolina now I am 78 years young.
