Even though Australia lost early wickets, the runs they got in the first 4 or 5 overs didn’t let them get into any run rate pressure in the whole innings!
Rohit didn’t really have to captain other than setting a basic field throughout the tournament. Batting first the Indians blitzed it, Bowling first the Indians blitzed it. Until the final and sorry to say but they choked. The Aussies on the other hand after getting flogged in the first 2 games had to really fight to win a couple of their group games, Cummins captaincy improved throughout and could almost have got the player of the final on his captaincy alone, long live odi’s 👌
Australia went in with a plan and stuck to it hoping for the best, India simply wilted under the burden of expectation. Was a strange pitch to make, can’t understand why they’d choose to lay out a slow pitch when they have such great shotmakers and fast bowlers. But considering how much stronger the Indian team was over any other team in the cup, they really did blow it. Was theirs for the taking even before the tournament began. Every single test team in this cup, except South Africa, was weaker than they were 4 years ago. Unfortunate, and these things happen, but it just shows how you have to keep your head to get the job done… Pakistan in 99, India in 2003, South Africa in 2007 (semifinals), NZL in 2015, each of them buckled and didn’t even put up a fight. In the 2019 semis, England stuck to their game plan and strengths and thrashed Australia.
I suspect all the fanfare about Kohli surpassing Tendulkar’s record didn’t help their mentally. All the theatrics that entailed, including stopping and picking him out in the crowd, seemed to almost relegate the teams actual point for being there to a secondary consideration. Team of champions Vs a champion team.
Zero sympathy as India had all the advantages, the got the pitch they wanted, home ground advantage and the crowd as well. Whereas the Aussies had a strategy from the start, they statistically and meticulously researched the ground conditions, concluding that bowling first was best due to the dew later making it easier to bat, rotating the bowling so India couldn’t get into a rhythm which happened after they lost 3 wickets, aggressive fielding then restricting the runs with their clever field placements. They put on enough runs early before losing wickets but even then they stayed calm, Head played aggressively while Marcus held down the other end. Australia outplayed India, it’s that simple.
It was a tactical masterclass with the ball after winning the toss and fielding (against conventional wisdom) to restrict this Ind batting line up to a sub par 240… then an abs masterpiece from heady (ably supported by marn) to secure a 6th CWC title and more importantly “THE DOUBLE”… it’s Australia doing Australia things maaaaate… CMON!

There's a certain irony with Butcher talking about conditions changing between innings being a leveler. the groudn which has the most lopssided difference between first and second innings is Wankhede. With most scores in the first innings being in the high 300 to over 400, and the average in the second innings until the final one played by NZ being 199 in response. Massive differences between SR for both batsmen and bowlers between innigns aas well as averages. India won their semi convincingly, but it was the least convincing win of all the games played at Wankhede (other than the miraculous Maxwell game which defied the trend). Perhaps if India had been a little elss dominant throughout the comp, that performance would have been scrutinised a bit more.
I felt that too in the semi, the Kiwis fought really hard in extremely difficult conditions. They never looked like they would win, but to perform as they did was impressive. India didn't look invincible. Australia wont win them all, and when they do inevitably miss out one day, I hope it's the Kiwis that take the trophy, they deserve one.
India's tactical ineptitude made Aussie Win. India really have no plan. It relied on individual brilliance. There was no strategy when it comes to batting. Bowling as well. I was screaming for a weak that Muhammed shami is not good opening bowler. Yet they opened with shami.
England could have won the Ashes , the declaration in the first game was stupid . India runs the ICC , this world cup was to long , India would have won if the final was a week ago but thats what India wanted , money , and second the ICC wanted a new pitch for the finals , and India said no , so no complaints about the dry pitch juicing up under lights
Phil notices world cricket requires a tiny country like Australia (25million) to long continue punching above its weight, when the behemoth India has potential to make the next few decades a bit boring with their domination. New Zealand did really well again, tangent: kudos to England having a good plan for Travis Head, he could have made the recent ashes really uninteresting.
Did they choke? Or were they just outplayed? How, specifically, did they choke? What did they do differently in this game to all the others?
Truly delighted by defeating a team or country that marred the spirit of cricket through monopoly, political influence, pitch fixing, corruption, etc.
Unfortunate, and these things happen, but it just shows how you have to keep your head to get the job done…
Pakistan in 99, India in 2003, South Africa in 2007 (semifinals), NZL in 2015, each of them buckled and didn’t even put up a fight. In the 2019 semis, England stuck to their game plan and strengths and thrashed Australia.
Great pod through the World Cup gents. 👍Watched every episode and looking forward to more of the same going forward.
Thank you for your efforts during this World Cup. Haven’t missed one of these daily podcasts.
Thank you Wisden Team for the daily podcast coverage of the tournament.

Cummins, Warner, Smith and Starc now have (at least) one WTC, CWC and T20WC each.
As happy and proud I am of our beloved Aussies winning, Idk why but I feel a bit sorry for India!
Me too.... but in hindsight the whole country got ahead of itself.
@@seanlynch1185Imagine 1.4 billion being happy vs 25 million people. Huge difference!
@@aj7907 God help us if cricket is the answer
@@seanlynch1185 Unfortunately that is what it is for India
Phil is dying on the inside. LOL
Beautiful win for the best Cricketing Nation in the World !!!!!! AUSTRALIA !!!!!!!!! whooooohooo ! NEVER HEARD A BIG CROWD LIKE THAT SO SILENT bahahahaha
i loooooove AUSTRALIA xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxo
India are a team full of stars. Australia are a star team - big difference
Agreed; it felt as though every player stood up and contributed throughout the tournament. A complete team effort! 🏆
I have Never Seen Adam Gilchrist when he played for Australia but I can certainly say I have witnessed Travis Head who gives the confidence as much as Adam Gilchrist, opening in the ODI and bat in the middle order in Test
Gilchrist played 3 WC finals. Scored centuries in all of them. Won all 3 of them. Definitely a big match player
Now that's a moral vitory!
Its a shame the Indian players didn't have the nerve to stay out on the field and watch the full ceremonie. The camera crew new not to focus on disappointed Indian player's.
When you make statements like " there's nothing more satisfying than silencing 140k people " who hosted you graciously at their home... What else do u expect?
@@Bruh-jw2ze How many applauded Travis when he got his ton. How many had the guts to stay to the end. Sometimes it's good sportsmanship to be gracious in defeat.

Sure Indians are an emotional lot who rooted for their team but they give credit where it's due
cricket is a mental game .the more important the game the more mental strength is required,
Australia despite losing 2 games & were on the verge of losing to Afhanistan when they were 71/7 but then Maxwell played the innings of the World Cup by scoring 201 & putting on 202 with Cummins contributing just the 16. But Travis Head scored centuries in the semi-final & final.
I think there should be public apology from the indian team for what they have put the indian fans through in these ICC tournament
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
New Zealand should have won the last tournament. The gap is not that big.
Moral victory?
Not letting England get their hands on the Ashes is the greatest triumph this year, but the ICC is right up there.
Well done gents been great watching along
I think something that hasn’t been mentioned enough is the Indian’s batmen’s (perhaps over-)confidence in their bowling team and reliance on Kohli, which I felt was evident in the way Rahul batted. Or am I way off?
Australia , won and lost but won when it mattered , because they know how too win , india , was a monty to buckle if acid could be applied so fielding becomes primary 1%er , ergo , " Catches win matches " once the seed of doubt was sown , this game was an Anaconda crushing it's prey , squeezed the life out of them , amazing effort , 100% fairdinkum under dogs , but , forged in fire , 6 time champion ,amazing , Ric RARARA
Whatever the result from one Knokoff match India remains TOP of ODI, Test, T20 rankimgs with Table toppers in almost last 3 odi world cup and that result comes from being consistent. So Champion 🏆 is one who consistently stays on TOP.
I’m sure India would be happy to trade a World Cup Championship with being the ‘top rated ODI team’ 😂

An old saying "every game you win you are a game closer to a loss". They were due!
Australia won the 2003 and 2007 undefeated. It is possible but India didn't bring their A game.
Due for a loss? Get real, if you are good enough you win, they weren't on the day.

in Oz we are taught to play hard and never give up starting as kids in grass roots cricket.... i would love to see the game expand There is alot of talented teams for example netherlands.... I would love to see these countries get more exposure perhaps let them play against + train with the. big nations A sides on a regular basis.
Klusner is the greatest 1 day batter I have ever seen in a World Cup tournament, it’s 1 thing to bat with 8 wickets behind you it’s another with 2 where the other guy is a bowler and you have to retain strike
Great summary, gentlemen.
Intriguing final
Aussie Aussie Aussie oie oie oie
No! Stop it!
Most of the Aussie bowlers can bat and most of the batsman can bowl. All of them are excellent fielders. A great team of all rounders, well captained.
It is not Australia stuns India but India stuns the world in world cup final!
Well done Yas, super stuff
Nearly went to bed thought Aussies have no chance but it’s never over till the fat lady sings. Great podcast boys
I agree If it was a flatter odi wicket, probably it might have been an even contest

38:18 you’re saying India should have followed England’s example and intentionally prepare pitches that suit flat track bullies with no defensive techniques when that is their best chance of winning? Similar to the ashes. That is a little unfair on India to make that comparison to that England team. India have a far superior and more flexible batting line up.
In the country of fools , gurus are plenty
Poms lack the grit to back up time and again on overseas pitches. Will be 5-0 again next Ashes in Oz.
Congratulations to Australia

Cummball > bazzball
Not to mention WTC
Yeah but Bazball is here to save test cricket mate!
Perhaps if India had been a little elss dominant throughout the comp, that performance would have been scrutinised a bit more.
yes ind got the better of conditions in the semi.
We got the DOG in us!
2 sports results that give me the most joy -

If England find their form again wow, and Afghanistan, congratulations.
