@@jenniferwaidelich642 No it really wasn't. 2 real New Jersey crime families were the loose inspiration for the Soprano family but the show itself was not at all based on real people's lives. Now that's comedy! But I must add...Maybe he's an "upstanding" mobster because he took a fall for somebody who would have fallen further if they ended up in the system? For example, a "clean" brother might go inside for his junky brother's crime, because the clean bro knows junky bro will relapse into heroin addiction in prison. Or "clean" might mean that the "dirty" brother avoids life sentencing, including being sent to a prison with rivals present, and/or no power. Yes, I need a life. But I like turtles...

As an Italian with extremely sketchy family from the south of Italy and parts of Sicily (mob central), this aesthetic is extremely disturbing. People forget that Mobs and gangs are responsible for a large percentage of human trafficking and horrendous crimes. Also, Italians are not the only ones with mobs. There are Irish, Mexican, Jewish, Russian and so many others that it’s hard to name them all. It is perfectly fine if people want to wear faux fur and animal print and expensive designer names, but it is never acceptable for people to glorify and romanticize a hostile and abusive group of people.
I never thought bout this from that perspective. I knew there was something off about calling it "mob wife" aesthetic, but I couldn't pinpoint it. But you're right. Like, maybe try to come up with something else to call yourself so that you are not in any way aligning yourself with a group of people who do those kinds of things? I get that it's basically Sopranos cosplay but I also feel like, due to the lack of context people receive by discovering something on TikTok, there's this phenomenon of glorifying really messed up things on accident. Thank you for your comment, you have given me a lot to think about.
People do halloween mafia outfits all the time tho. Like i get what you're saying but nobody is going to think mobsters are good people because a tiktoker put on leopard print

@olitapp5361 + Slavs and Jewish people (European Jews definitely look "white" but they're not "white" for strange reasons) Race is just a made up concept. It's just an excuse to treat others badly. As such if there's a dominant white ethnic group which want to subjugate another white ethnic group suddenly the other group looses its white status Which is one of MANY reasons why I don't support white supremacy. Today I might be "white" but who knows who I will be tommorow
@@olitapp5361 While yes, but it would more often apply to darker Italians? As well as other darker European-Mediterranean people. Even they themselves sometimes make a distinction between lighter and darker Italians, Spaniards, Portugese, Greeks etc. Ofc I'm not denying anyone's personal experience with racism or discrimination, no matter their appearance.
Lmfao all these “real” mob wives look like they just picked their faux fur coats from the thrift store yesterday and tried to pretend this is how they’ve dressed and acted for years
Even if it was real fur why would you wear it? I have a fur coat at my house that my grandma used to own and I never wear it because I don't want to get it damaged Not to mention I have a feeling real fur coats would be hard to clean (another reason I don't wear it)
One thing I’ve noticed is that nobody complains when men on TikTok were making mafia boss povs or “mob fits” such as dressing in suits but when it became a trend for women to be “mob wives” suddenly loads of people had a problem with it. I admit that it’s a ridiculous trend but the way people choose to direct their hate on TikTok baffles me every time
I've seen people complaining about that too. To be fair it was a more understandable critique than "you've never had to be a willing accomplice to your husband's heinous crimes, you don't get to wear the fur coat 🤪", but I've seen it
Idk i feel like it's mostly women mocking these women though. I've seen quite a bit of critique on the mafia boss looks too, though on TH-cam. I'm not on Tiktok but what i can gather from this small observation is that women on Tiktok tend to aggress their own gender for clothing more often than men do it to their gender. Personally as a woman i don't care a lot, i find it dubious for both parts to want to look like literal murderers and human traffickers.
The only people complaining about mob wife fashion is women who claim to be mob wives 😂 Also, tons of people criticized the mob boss tiktoks. They were made fun of by plenty of people. This isn't some double standard thing.
Omg. My brothers were in army school and they would say the same about their teachers ( most were wives of officers), that they acted as if they were officers themselves. They would say it to people's face don't you know I am wife of a major etc. 😂

But it loses the plot when it comes from people who forge their stories to fit into the title of a "real mob wife".
@@sumlem I think a lot of those relationships have abuse in them. Drita D'Avanzo showed how hard it was to struggle with her husband in and out of prison after being in organized crime. The thing with this being called an "aesthetic" is possibly hurtful to them. @@inacattLol, right. I know nothing about the mafia I'll admit, however I highly HIGHLY doubt they'd let you get in tiktok and say, "look at my husband who's the mob 😃👍" ain't no way
11:10 is so funny, just the phrase "crime aesthetics", but then getting hit with "My crime was ORGANIZED, your crime is an independent start-up." The "real" mob wives remind me of how much the mafia HATED Al Capone for flaunting his wealth and how he was a mobster, putting the mafia in the public light for the law to see and exposing things about their practices. Surely especially the wife with the photo of her husband's face showing, isn't actually in the mafia or they'd be a little smarter on social media exposing themselves...right?
I also find it a bit ironic bc it’s like bestie if you really are connected maybe take a couple of seconds to think about how you’re glorifying the trauma of victims of the mob
Stop glorifying my trauma! My husband killed 35 people using only a Kodiak Camera and some glue! He then caught a shark, cut the shark open, put the bodies inside, and then sewed the shark back up and set it free. He then stole all of their money and made us rich. Stop it! Stop glorifying this trauma! I'm crying into a 100 dollar bill (which I own a lot of)
This feels like such a weird thing to be up in arms about. Also the differentiation between "mob wife" and "drug dealer wife" feels ridiculous, both your husbands are criminals.
im crying at her being a "professional mob wife" and not knowing the difference between a 'mob' and a 'mafia' if you're not italian, you can still be a mob wife. it's the MAFIA that's primarily sicilian or italian/italian-american crime families. (+ there are of course other groups of organised crime that can be described as a 'mafia' who arent sicilian or italian, the yakuza is the japanese mafia, it's just the word is most often used for groups who bear similarity to the italian mafia so im using it) OH MY GOD AND THEN SHE'S IRISH???
The mafia is not specifically sicilian or italian american, they come from all Italian regions and they have a different name in most of them. Cosa Nostra in Sicily, Sacra Corona Unita in Puglia, Ndrangheta in Calabria, etc. etc. "Mafia" is the general term, we use it in its plural "mafie" as well. Even in regions where they don't have a specific name they are still a very prominent presence, albeit hidden. We are taught that as children, starting at around 12-13 years old I think.
@saphiwrath Exactly. Besides, organised crime exists everywhere in the world, under different names. Their version of the "mob" is very sugar-coated and glamourised. I don't think they would want to associate themselves with the real deal if they actually lived under the mafia's thumb.
I always say the "gooooooold" part with the little Jarvis voice in the beginning of every premium video. Can't even describe my surprise and betrayal when today I was the only one to say it.
white women on tiktok calling other girls white in various metaphors is like that scene in family guy where peter says, "whole lotta honkeys around here" and all the white people in the crowd glare at him
I mean I've been wearing leopard print, furs and a lot of makeup for awhile now. it's just a look unless you're a try-hard. I'm gunna keep doin my thing and just not call it mob wife aesthetic lol
As an Italian, born and raised in Italy, both sides of the argument make me so sad, knowing what it is the real power that mafia holds in my country and seeing this girls romanticizing being part of the mob or the other girls getting dressed up like them makes my skin crawl
Exactly!!! I don't know why would anyone want to be associated with pain, constant danger and crime. Can't we just name this aesthetic "dark glamour" or something
Yeah on one side you have girlies turning something that very much still harms people to this day into an aestetich. And on the other americans who are 1/16th Italian claiming to not be white and thinking they saw the "real" gangster life. Meanwhile us Italians are sitting here with actual politicians involved with the mafia.🫠 I dont know man this whole thing gives me such a weird vibe
It's so strange. I've never seen people romanticizing things like Russian mafia because I guess it's not sexy enough. And yet both of those groups are evil I don't care if I'm abducted into sex slavery by an Italian or Russian
i thought that the woman at 18:21 had a point... until she continued talking. because organized crime rings aren't just a bunch of guys shooting guns and smoking cigars-they kidnap, traffic, assault, and murder people. i agree with her point that the aesthetic could have another name, but i thought she was going to talk about how the victims of actual gang violence might feel watching tiktokers name a trend after their oppressors. this argument is so bizarre.
maybe pedantic, but i think one of the funniest parts to me is that they're framing it like mobs are exclusively Italian, and not something that exist all over. if it was called "mafia wife aesthetic" thats a little more understandable because that's specifically italian and sicilian, but there's so many other mobs. its like how a square is a rectangle but not every rectangle is a square. the mafia is a mob, but not all mobs are the mafia
That was my first thought too! I’m half Sicilian and when I heard the trend “mob wife” I didn’t even bat an eye bc that’s so vague lmao mobs are EVERYWHERE. I would have definitely been weirded out if it was called “mafia wife” for sure bc that’s a very specific thing with a very tragic history.
It’s funny bc I think the “mob wife aesthetic” is closer to “high end escort aesthetic”. And I live for it! Italian Americans need to relax w thinking they invented fur coats 😭
What does high end escort aesthetic look like to you? Also, when she said "you look like trashy white women with drug dealers as partners" I was like, "that's what I think you look like. "

It is so wild to me that the first video you showed had the very reasonable criticism of “hey, you’re romanticizing a culture that seriously hurts a lot of people both outside of and within itself” and then the very next video made by the same woman descended into gatekeeping madness.

It's the "my husband kills people" trope
My wife and I definitely experienced the terrors of officers’ and SNCOs’ wives while I was in. Knew an MP who told me how many times a Major or LTC’s wife would get genuinely angry if he didn’t salute her vehicle at the gate because he “obviously should’ve recognized the car.”
It still feels like a fever dream so I don’t even know if I’m remembering this correctly, but some military spouse must’ve recognized me from the unit, and had the balls to come straight up to me, and tell me that my hair wasn’t in regulation, and that I needed to shave my face.

Literally it’s so crazy, my brain won’t process that these are real people being serious. It just feels like acting, sarcasm, roleplay ect and I’d rather pretend it is 😭🙏
It feels like a random kid in elementary school getting mad that someone else started reading the Warrior Cats series because “that was MY THING” and then saying they’re not a real fan.
These guys should just put a disclaimer that says "We are roleplaying" or something.
its so bad like it sounds like they watched the sopranos and decided to try posting their audition tapes to tiktok
@@NearsightedNarhwal omg I remember this askfhjd
As someone from the tristate area this makes me laugh so hard. No one acts like this. The whole ‘if you don’t know someone named Tony that knows a guy’ is especially hilarious. I could throw a rock in any random direction and hit someone named Tony. Shut up 😂
that took me out because i konw a jamaican named tony who i call to work on my car LOLOL
@@mightymeatymechand I betcha he also knows a guy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tony is THE stereotypical name too, I refuse to believe those response videos aren't satire.
Girly doesn't know anything about organized crime, otherwise she wouldn't discriminate against Russian mobs.
They don’t know anything!!!! They’re claiming the mob like they outstanding citizens 😂
Or dry snitch on themselves and their husbands. Everyones playing dress up here, some are just a bit more salty than others.
I have a feeling some of them are post that life. Like the blonde lady seems like she's on the other side of it, looking back at the pain. @@Drockthehouse95
16:59 bro just ratted out her husband💀😭
And I can wear whatever coat I want😭😭
“Our culture is not your costume” while going omg I’m Irish too is very ironic
omg I’m Irish too 🥺🥺🥺
Tbf, I'd imagine it would be hard to be mixed ethnicities if you come from an old mob family. From what I know, Irish Americans and Italian Americans don't get along too well when it comes to organized crime.
@@PissyLissy maybe an enemies to lovers happened
@@ghumashenaa4414 bro is imagining tragic storylines
Maybe she was in the Irish mob?
‘My crime was organised thank you very much. Your crime is an independent start up’😂😂
the coat gatekeeping is so funny to me as someone who is eastern european, because in my country every other person (man, woman, grandma, teenage boy, etc) would wear fur coats, especially when i was growing up
that's because you're all in the mob, you just don't know it yet 💀💀 /jk
@@mightymeatymech oh no!! how could i have i missed this?!!
This! It's currently -20C in Moscow and every other woman is wearing furs. Organised crime is truly getting out of hand, apparently
@@kseniav586 Better watch out for anyone called Tony, he might know a guy.
hello fellow eastern european👋
Definitely a case study in People Who Think Movies Are Real Syndrome. Who's in it for the movie glam aesthetic? Who's complaining because they believe all depiction in media are meant to be 1:1 exactly real and effectual to the general public? Who's faking it for clout? Who's so tone deaf to not realize that the phrasing "my culture is not your costume" is kinda...rude to people who use this phrase when they're called slurs on halloween costumes every year.
“My life of being an accessory to murder is not your costume” yea good point 🚔🚨🚔
Italy: amazing culture, art, music, food, architecture
ItalianAmericans: tracksuits, fur coats, crime and gabagool is the peak of our culture
😂😂😂😂
We also have crime and people who dress trashy. But our food is better 🤷🏻♀️
Tbf Italian Americans have some fire food don’t do us like thattt 😭 (this is my favorite comment ever btw)
the "I'm not like other white women" tangent is hilarious as hell.
Someone should do a video abt them tbh lol
wait until these mob wives find out about all the POV tiktokers whove made "mafia boss boyfriend" their bread and butter for years...their poor husband's identity is being worn as a costume literally 😱
"That's my husband. He's in the mob." GIRL SHUT UP OMG YOU'RE GONNA GET BOTH OF YOU IN A LOT OF TROUBLE ***WITH THE MOB***
If her husband was in the mafia, he would have killed her for posting about him on TikTok.
legitimately love you talking about more “traditionally feminine” (I know how dumb that sounds) internet topics in a more deep dive feel, they get overlooked most of the time because they cater specifically to women but some of that stuff is SO wildly funny I’d love to see more videos like this
Would love to see more. There’s so much to pick from. Please ladies who are on twitter send him shit cause I’m not on there to do it myself!
Agreed. I didn't realize how overlooked content catered to women really is until I went to talk to my bf about the latest trend, said something like "you know x? It's been all over the internet" and he had never heard of it... Meanwhile it's been in my feed for days.
@@craneoflores Fair point, though it is annoying that we still have 'content catered to women' and 'content catered to men'. I know it's just reflective of how the world is right now. But at the same time, I'm not all that happy about that either.
fur coats are not just an italian thing. they’ve been worn by humans since like… literally the invention of clothing. i have pictures of my great grandma (who was not italian) in a big ass fur coat in the 40s
Yeah, and hey we're talking about italian americans .. well guess what indigenous americans wore that shit too
Exactly! My great grandmother had a fur coat. We don't have it anymore because maintaining fur is difficult and expensive, but if I did still have it you bet I'd be wearing it in freezing temperatures. Am I not allowed to wear a fur coat now???
Yeah like wherever it is cold fur coats exist lmao. No one can copyright a basic garment LMAO
Let's call out the mob wives for appropriating Finnish culture.
im romanian and my grandmother has like 20 fur coats. too bad i have to break it to her she can’t wear them anymore since the tiktok girls don’t approve
The girl was literally describing Fat Tony from The Simpsons lol, also with the outstanding table in the restaurant, that's Luigi's!
They're making real life fanfiction. With their fake ass back stories
Wattpad type stories 😭💀
If these mob wives wanted to protect their men, theyd stop blasting their mob status all over social media 😤 some of us know how to keep our mouths shut
apparently you're not one of them ;)
Mfw i lie about being a "mob wife" just to make myself a bit more interesting.
The irony
@@Sing_A_Rebel_Song I'm literally joking, please 😭
@blink182izawsmI mean, I'm sure the state would love for them to incriminate themselves too.
"Not all of them are mob wives... some of them are Drake" 😂😂😂 I LOVE your sense of humour!
i've experienced more than half of the things that make you a "mob wife" just because i grew up with felon, addict, poor parents. it's wild how they think they're so individual because people around them have ... committed crimes 😭
Stolen Valor! Being a mobwife means yapping in detail about the criminal activity you've been complicit to and then posting it on the internet as a sacrifice to your incarcerated husband!
Exactly what I was thinking
It is so wild to me that the first video you showed had the very reasonable criticism of “hey, you’re romanticizing a culture that seriously hurts a lot of people both outside of and within itself” and then the very next video made by the same woman descended into gatekeeping madness.
