Yes, instead of buying 2 regular sweaters and take out food, I buy 1 cashmere sweater and cook in the oven. I’m old now, but the New England winter wind doesn’t chill me anymore.

Amen. At 60 a railroad conductor. Retired a year later. Now 74 wrote 3 books later still work in a bog box lumber store, walk 4 moles a day and play in a rock band. All a state of mind.

Turning 60 was one of the first three stages for me of becoming officially old and each stage was bittersweet.. I was purchasing a ticket to go up the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur when the cashier asked me how old I was. I replied, '60' and she said, 'You qualify for the elderly discounted..' I felt old, then I asked, 'How much?' and she replied 50%, I felt better. Then a few years later I applied for social security - the old age retirement fund. I felt old. Then I found out the amount and flt much better. Finally, I became a grandparent, that made me feel officially old. But I have two beautiful grad children who make everything better.
The good thing about getting to that age is you know it'll be over soon. No more social conventions, singing "Happy Birthday" and pretending to like other people. And no more handshakes, thank goodness!

He's 74 now and has health problems which have caused him to cancel some scheduled shows. He also now requires audiences to be masked. I'm afraid he'll have no choice but to retire soon.

I didn't stop thinking that I would stay young. but the thought just sort of flew away. that's what happens when you get old.
Lewis, i was a bull at 60. I ran 2 business' by myself and they both were growing. One was a lawn service and the other a sewer rodding service. On my 60th birthday, my brother called me razzing me about turning 60. "So, whats it like being an old fart...lol" Well, two weeks later i was one. Artery in my leg collapsed and i was in surgery to have stents placed in my right leg. The also found a hernia and oh by the way you have Polycystic Kidney Disease. I told my brother dont you ever call me on my birthday again.
Ok, don't have to be 60 for this to happen. At 55 I can't remember shit! But ya know, I don't think it has to do with age or the deterioration of the mind, I believe it's part of that "DON'T CARE" attitude that only gets worse with age. Things we used to worry and stress over when we are young, have much less weight to us as we age; we come to understand what youngsters think is important, REALLY isn't after all. Things that are important as elders is health and a simple, stress free existence.
