    Thanks, Loren. A few days ago, I figured out how to adjust the discrimination, after realizing that I've been doing the same process in the tot lots by putting small pieces of foil on the iron side of discrimination so I didn't have to dig them looking for coins and jewelry. Then I went back and was watching your old video about this subject, and that's when the light went off in my head. This is a great addition to my knowledge of using my detectors. Thanks again for sharing your information.

      That's awesome to hear! You are absolutely correct that you can raise discrim to eliminate low conductors as well. Being able to use that setting to achieve your goals puts you ahead of many detectorists :D

    Not knowing how to properly adjust the tone breaks, is a common problem, and not just for hunting in iron. For example, one popular You Tuber, claimed the Legend couldn't hit a tiny gold chain he tested it on. Turns out, he was new to the Legend, and didn't know how to use it, despite having "40 years of metal detecting experience". Anyway, he had the first tone break set to silence small foil, and that's why he wasn't hearing the tiny gold chain. Good thing is, he did make an apology video. It also shows that experience does not always equal proficiency.
    Here's an iron unmasking test with the Deus II, Legend, and Manticore. Note how high the coil height can be on the Deus II and Legend, while still hitting the coin. They both do amazingly well in the test. Although, I would have liked to see what the TID showed on each. I bet the Legend would have a much higher ID on the coin than the Deus would. For some reason, the Deus II gives abnormally low ID's on iron masked coins.
    For some other reason, the Manticore doesn't look like it did too well. Sounded very choppy and clipped, compared to the D2 and Legend.

    Ive also seen test videos with the manticore magically unmasking with opening up upper ferrous limits, but like you said you have to know the nails id, as they are all different

      @LorenLemcke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Every point gained in unmasking comes with the consequence of having to dig more iron. This is true on all detectors, including the Manticore. The Manticore just draws it's 'discrimination line' in a 2D way.

    Oh the simplest things can make a difference. Beach hunters have figured out where small gold hits a long time ago. the real problem is iron hair pins hit higher than some gold, so what are you going to do. Great work explaining the concept Loren, thank you!

    Top of the line videos
    Can you do some settings
    For high mineral dirt

    • @LorenLemcke
      @LorenLemcke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Admittedly here in Finland the soil tends to be pretty mild because the soil here is rather new, geologically speaking, since this region was scraped clean by glacial activity. While there are some regions with problematic ground conditions, e.g. iron ore presence in bedrock, it isn't quite the same as high mineralization in say a gold field. So I don't have any settings that I would be confident in sharing. I would defer to somebody with more experience in high mineralization, like @BrassMedic .

  • @rickvann3489
    @rickvann3489 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey you might Explained it but I'm very new to the Legend like one hour new. But I did the settings to hear iron and set all my tones etc. GUESS WHAT! it now averages my nickel and quarter laying together and rings up and id's in low tone and up out of Nickel high tone I had it set for. So combining the two coins down averaged the quarter out of high tone and just up averaged the nickel into my junk and zinc penny setting and your not getting those coins. So your supposed to set it up and make the average have a different tone. I call bull crap tone break adjusting to make two coins id or ring correctly. Hell any detector I own hits a quarter and nickel in a good slot. Basically I now have to setup a zinc penny to ring as a good target to get the two combos of nickel and quarter to hit and not miss them. Never tried dime, nickel or any other combo. I hit coin spills all the time and now I have to f with moving crap around to get correct tone breaks.
    Please solve this or teach grass hopper is willing to learn.

    • @LorenLemcke
      @LorenLemcke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be honest, if you are very new to The Legend and detecting, I would leave the discrim / tone break at the default for now. The manufacturers have set them in a very good spot. I would only use lower discrim if I was at a heavily iron loaded sight that was thoroughly hunted and I wanted to pull out the last few non-ferrous targets at the cost of digging a lot of iron.

    • @rickvann3489
      @rickvann3489 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LorenLemcke don't take thus wrong, yes new to the Legend but not to detecting. I own 22 detectors and each one helps me understand the others fine points and down falls. My Deus (not Deus 2) I run just fine and has just as many settings etc. Etrac samething, but go ahead and try combo just coins like a coin spill and watch the huge down averaging and I believe it is because of the 0 to 59 scale compressed much more. I can like I said bring the zinc penny into play which for old coin hunting is what I will do but just to go out and hit a quick park hunt this isn't the detector to use unless junk is fun to dig then just buy a Sunpow...lmao... I'm headed out the door now to go use it and learn a little more.
      Hunting big open fields with areas of some iron but mostly clean. Yesterday 12 inch wheat penny with the Legend impressive indeed but what about a Buffalo and Indian head or other combo kinda sucks knowing it's averaging wrong. But the Impact and Etrac and Whites MX7 come into play along with Frenchie (Deus) and Cowboy (Vaquero super tuned) they get the depth too. Plenty of horses in the stable and most importantly plenty of coils to go with them. Highly recommend owning few machines and lots of coils.

      No issues today just swinging and take it all in. I did get a nickel perfectly straight up and down missed my pinpoint and there it was on the sidewall 2 1/2" down but registered like it was deeper as it should, funny signal but had a high tone keep jumping in so I said wth dig and being a new detector and trying to learn it I dug and was rewarded for my curiosity.

    so if Im getting this correctly , if im out detecting and coming across lot of iron pulls I can get the target id and then lower the tone to right above that? sorry im new and just trying to understand😆. ill watch this over and over till I get it🤣🤣🤣.

    • @J_digs_
      @J_digs_ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      ahhh. so really its about finding that sweet spot but that can still change from target to target so if im getting this right there's still no way to be 100% with it. I don't know, I just dig everything🤣🤣

    • @LorenLemcke
      @LorenLemcke  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a difficult setting to use correctly at first, and quite frankly the manufacturers set the default value pretty good for most situations. I would really only lower it any significant amount if I was at a iron loaded sight that was hunted heavily and I wanted to find the last few non-ferrous targets and wouldn't mind digging lots of iron to get them.
