It is great that After Effects is FINALLY incorporating a 3D workspace, but it is weird that it is being framed as the underdog against Blender which is a free open-source software. To me the real takeaway is how cool it is that a free software still beats the output of a huge corporation like Adobe.

Not really because if you're doing 3D as a professional you're more on cinema 4D which is really optimized with the Adobe suite

after effects is not a 3d software though? Blender is completely designed for 3d and after effects isn't. And they are just starting on 3d while Blender is here for more than 29 years. While I dont think after effects will ever reach the level of Blender but both software are designed to do different things. You can do a lot of things in after effects that's impossible in Blender and vice versa.

@@cart6380 I never said that after was good for 3D or that it was 3D software, I just said that when you're a professional like a motion designer you're going to use cinema 4D to do 3D that's optimized for the adobe suite because adobe and maxon have an agreement. So adobe doesn't really need to beef up after for 3D since cinema 4D is way ahead of blender 👀

  • @mike309saa

I use both programs and AE will never replace what Blender can do. AE has had 3D in the past and there are pluggings such as Video Copilot Element 3D but the only things possible are placing objects into a scene and then doing basic animations with them. You can't rig anything up so your animation options are limited. Also even if they do add a rigging feature, you still won't ever be able to model your own 3D models like you can do in Blender. By that point, they might as well make new software that replaces AE rather than try to integrate 3D modeling into it.

Great video ! I think this update is meant to incorporate AE into the Substance workflow, thus you start your modelisation in substance modeler than you'd texture it in substance painter, maybe render it in substance stager and finally composite it into After effect. Looking forward to see the advances, it's great to see adobe finally investing into 3D deeply.

Maybe if After Effects continues to make this 3D integrated into AE, I can finally create something. I still feel like Unreal Engine is the easiest way to do 3D scenes for beginners like myself. What are your thoughts about that?
My fascination with 3D has been since the tutorial you did on how to make fake 3D text in Premiere Pro. I thought it was so cool and did it a lot. I even used it in projects at school and people were so amazed at how good the 3D looked. And now, finally, they are beginning to integrate real 3D into Adobe. That's only available in after effects beta but you can also do it in normal after effects using element 3d🌝😂🗿

The skin on the lemon on After effects looked different because you needed to invert normals.

Not even close to be able to dump any other 3D software just yet (missing this and that).

Not that I think AE is going to be the best, I am inclined to believe that one can achieve more realistic and dynamic looks when adjustments are made to the parameters. You mention that briefly but it would be nice to see a deep dive into that aspect of a scene. Just using defaults is not a fair comparison.

For Blender, did you use Eevee or Cycles?

Yeah it is nice addition for the after effects. But as both blender and after effects user i dont need this feature in ae, i will continue to do this stuff in blender. Not to mention that any kind of work with 3d stuff is much more easier (include user interface) AE is trying rly hard to catch up with something it never was created to begin with, and it does pretty good job in doing so, but hardly ppl who used to do this kind of stuff in blender will immediately jump in ae for it.

This feature in After Effects has been implemented way better since ages ago through Element 3D. Still, this what they call huge-update is still jurassic for me and has been around already in Ae users via E3D. For a big company to do upgrade like this seems cheap at all, dunno where all the profit went.

Blender will be used for modeling, AE for motion/animation. Only now you don't need to buy Element3D anymore.

Blender has over a decade of perfecting their free 3D software, After Effects just started, Maybe they'll get to the point of Blender renders in a few months, but I honestly would still prefer blender to make full videos and movies.
Short videos and ads could work in after effects.

I see after effects 3d good for like music video effects I did a few not looking for a super realistic look I prefer blender for that

It's great to see that 3D is now coming slowly to AE. I gave Adobe already 12 years ago the feedback in the Forum that AE needs real/native 3D support to compete in compositing/VFX. Now we are getting 3D but 10 years too late :D.
Comparing Blender and AE in terms of 3D is absolutely nonsense. AE only can do very, very, very basic 3D stuff (import some models Geo - that's it for now :D). So After Effects can now do around 2% of what is possible in Blender :D ...hope Adobe brings use very fast more 3D features that we can really work with it.
