    One of the better presentations. The word is patience, which I have not developed as I should have.

    Enabler alert! Barb, you're wearing down my resistance to buy these. They just look so fun! I loved that you included the storage ideas at the end of the video for your tags. Thanks for showing us how these things actually work on the different tag surfaces.

    Hi Barbara, After a lot of hemming and hawing about whether or not to invest in the Distress Oxide inks, your video has convinced me it's time. Thank you for showing how awesome they are and the differences between them and the original.

      Hi Ruth. I hope you enjoy the Oxides as much as I do. Like most art supplies, they are an investment, but their unique properties make them interesting and beautiful. I'm glad the comparison between Distress and the Oxides was helpful. Thank you so much for letting me know that. Thank you for watching and I wish you thousands of hours of creative fun!

    What a fantastic video!!! I'm going to play around today and make samples. Yesterday I received the newest 12...so, I'll have 24 wonderful colors to experiment with...so excited. This video was really helpful. Thank you. I never thought about how the colors would change on the different colors of card stock. And I must say, how your jacket matches the ribbon in the background is amazing!!! Love it!!!! You now have a new subscriber!!

      Hi Deb. They are a super interesting ink, I think. I'm just beginning to find out what they will do, but I'm already thinking I "need" a few more colors. Imagine! Stay Creative!

    Thanks for the side by side demo Barb. The kraft paper really surprised me! Think I will have to use it more often with the oxides. Also I had not tried them on black--a winner! Great video!!

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi CB! I was really surprised with the kraft card stock, too. The video doesn't do the colors justice. The Oxides are quite different on black - much more subtle color, but it's still there. Fun to experiment with, for sure. Thanks for watching. ;-)

    Barb, great tip on sticking the blending foam, for each color, to each container! Thanks!

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gail. That's what Tim Holtz recommends. He created the concept, so following his lead is a good idea. ;-) You can use a variety of different sponges and applicators but don't use the same ones for regular Distress Inks as for the Oxides. I understand that is not a good idea because the inks are so different from each other.

      Hi Gloria. Thanks so much for watching. I can't take any credit for the process. Tim Holtz demonstrated this years ago, but it remains a timeless, beautiful way to use these inks. So much fun! Stay Creative!

    I bought the first set of Oxides when they first came out - left them on the side and thought about the different ways of using them, and watched many videos, but I didn't actually try them myself. Here we are, several months later and I am itching to try. I made a few watercolor paper, embossed squares last night, but was very disappointed with my results. I guess I want the masterpiece with the first efforts! I smooshed mine with a piece of acetate, but will try your method today. I will cut out some card stock and just play rather than intend to make something specific. TFS ~ new subscriber today! Julie

    Hi Barb!! Very awesome video!! I love the oxide inks!!! I was wondering what size do you make your tags? I've looked to purchase some and they are a bit pricey. I'd rather spend my art money on things like the oxide ink pads and reinkers!! Your tags look to be the perfect size...and I love the idea of making a book with them. I've always wrote on the back of things i color also but I seem to use random sizes. The idea of the tag book just looks very cool!! Anyway I've subscribed and will be checking out your channel!! Thanks for sharing!! Btw...you have a great name...Barbara was my moms name. She passed about 3years ago and I miss her much. Seeing your name did make me smile and think of her. 🦋🦋🦋

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cheryl. The tags in the video are 3.25" by 6.25" but they could be any size you prefer. I used a purchased tag as my pattern and plain craft store variety card stock. I'm glad that I bring a good memory for you. I understand about missing your mother. Mine has been gone for 11 years. Still miss the way she looked at me and said my name. Good memories. Thanks for watching!

    On the tags that you use oxide, you edge it in oxide only, and the same with the other ink type?

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Oxide Ink tags are edged with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Ink and the Distress Ink tags are edged with Walnut Distress Ink. Thanks for watching!

    Usually with these colors you can seal them and make them permanent, even if they are not light fast you can protect them somewhat from fading with a UV protective sealer. If you make cards to send them to friends the card actually should be sealed, because you never know what happens during transport and whether your friends stand in the rain while impatiently taking the card out of the envelope to see what you did and rain drops suddenly change the whole appearance with distress oxide.
    That said I saw that oxide react to glossy liquid pearls and showed darker after drying, so the question is, with what can you seal distress oxide in order to preserve your creation before sending it to friends?

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Silke. You'll have to try different products to see how they react with the Oxides if sealing them is something you really want to do. Some spray sealers should work and Tim Holtz shows using Distress Glaze to seal them. I don't usually worry about it because I doubt that people save my cards longer than a few days. ;-) Thanks for watching!

      Silke Schümann. Tim holtz (&I) use Ranger Micro Glaze) available at Michael's. U can seal reg Distress inks & sprays, Distress Oxide, watercolors, ext. Tim has a TH-cam demonstrating it and I advise u watch before use. I LOVE it. I seel all my cards.

    Hi Barb :) Many thanks for a great video :) I do not have any inks yet, but I'm planning on which colors of both common inks and inks oxide I will/shall buy, all I bought is the ink tools. I wonder what you're gluing to the container to fix the foamtools, I did´nt understand what you said on the video unfortunately. That's a great idea :) And How shall I think with my start kit of inks and inks oxide? Best regards/Gitt

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the hook side of Velcro to attach the foam pieces to the lid of each ink container. It's also called "hook and loop". I would start with your favorite colors of inks and add at least 1 darker color like one of the browns or the black. It's hard to choose because they are all such beautiful colors. Thanks for watching, Gitt! Stay Creative!

    I love this video! Thank you for showing the difference. I have most of the regular Distress inks but only 5 of the Oxides. This definitely encourages me to get more Oxides! I have a question about the blending tool you used. I have the round and the rectangle both. Did you use a felt or foam piece on your tool? Always love your videos!

    • @BarbOwenDesigns
      @BarbOwenDesigns  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Melissa. Foam is for blending the Distress inks and Felt is for Alcohol inks. I really like the Oxides - such interesting colors and unique properties. Thanks so much for watching. Stay Craetive!
