    Made this for my 2 year old neighbor---Mom said she had one and stretched out the legs so she had to hide it for saftey reasons (tried to wrap Tentacles around her neck!) I don't have small kids-what do I know?? Will make again for her with shorter tentacles💕 Love this pattern

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Oh no! I forget the tentacles can be a hazard. I usually make this for older people (weirdly enough lol) so it didn’t cross my mind to mention that the tentacles shouldn’t be so long for children 😬

If I want the same size octopus as yours, can you tell me how to change stitches (how many in each round?) to accomplish the same size as yours. • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I crocheted how I normally do but it might help if you did crochet looser. I’ve used this yarn a couple times before I made this so I think I was use to not really seeing the stitch. What I do to make it a little easier is feel the stitch with my left hand (since I hold the hook in my right hand) and that way it’s faster than poking the crochet hook everywhere to look for the stitch. Since the stitch is bigger because of the yarn you can definitely feel where it should go

    If not the chunky yarn co the stitches are not visible, which other yarn would you suggest to use for baby crochet items like these? I am trying to look for nice soft yarn but I can’t really figure out which would work best.
    Also, how much yarn would you need to complete a project like this?

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to stick to the same yarn for any project I make so i usually always recommend the Caron’s one pound yarn because that’s my favorite. It’s definitely not the same feeling because it’s acrylic yarn but I like it. I’ve also used the bernat velvet yarn to make these octopi for kids and that yarn is extremely soft. It was difficult to see the stitches but it’s not as chunky as the yarn I was using in the video. Another yarn i like is the big twist value yarn (if you don’t want to purchase a pound of one color yarn) but do not buy the color dark denim if you choose this brand because i hated working with that color. Overall I say Caron’s one pound is the best choice and I think it will take about 120-200 yards of yarn (depending on how long you choose to make the tentacles)

      I’ve made so many octopi to the point I think I’m over them but somehow I end up making more 😹. I’m working on some videos for next month! I just finished working on an among us video that I need to edit. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the game but that crochet project took me forever 😹. I haven’t even played it yet but someone asked if I could make it so I tried my best lol

    I’m confused so when u have the first round are u suposed to have 6 or 7 stiches because I have 7 and then on the second row I got 14?

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you might be confused because of the slip-stitch. So instead of doing that just do 6 single crochets in the magic circle. Add the stitch marker to the last stitch then just go straight into round 2 by increasing into all of the stitches = 12 stitches total in round 2

      Hello 👋, since you are a beginner it might be difficult if you are using the bernat baby yarn because it can be very difficult to find your stitches since this is thick yarn. If you still want to do this you could use any yarn that you like but my favorite is the Caron’s one pound yarn or the big twist value. The magic circle can be very difficult so there is another alternative. I’m not sure if you understand crochet terms but the other method is to chain 2 then single crochet 6 times into the first chain. That would be considered round one. I have another video for a keychain octopus but in that video I still show the magic circle 😩 I do use different yarn in that video though so it might be easier to see the stitches. I haven’t watched other octopus tutorials but if I come across something easier that you can follow I’ll link it

    Help. I’ve made several with velvet yarn and they turned out great. But now I’m trying it with the blanket yarn and it keeps making a cone shape at the top. I don’t know what to do. Wish I could post a picture to show you. After stuffing it makes the top a little rounder but still kind of pointy. Definitely no issues like that with the velvet.

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. Are you crocheting too tight? If it’s not that I think it may have something to do with the magic circle and it not expanding enough

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also since it’s harder to see the stitches with this yarn maybe you might have missed a couple of stitches in the beginning

    hey Jacqueline!, I was thinking that this octopus was adorable so I made myself one out of even BIGGER yarn, it was super cute and easy to make. If you see this comment, I was wondering if it was ok with you for me to sell this octopus to some neighbor hood people, and friends. (I am a 13 year old wanting to make some cash) Is it ok if I use your pattern? Obv, I won't say that I made the pattern. I will give credit to you, or whoever actually created this octopus. Thanks! hopefully you check the comments... also, if you don't see this in the next week or so, Im probably going to go ahead and do this.. because there was no where you mentioned that someone shouldn't sell this pattern. If I already started and you tell me not to, Ill finish out my orders (That is however many I have at the time. or if I even have any) and then take down the post of me selling it immediatly.

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sammy! Sorry I thought I already responded to your comment. You will definitely need a stitch marker because you will get lost when you are working in rounds. Especially because the yarn is so much thicker. If you don’t have a stitch marker you can use a Bobby pin, safety pin or even yarn. Sometimes when I’m too lazy to get a stitch marker I will use a small scrap piece of yarn and place it into my last stitch. I hope that helps!

      What type of yarn are you using? It should naturally start to curve down after you crochet a couple of the single crochet rows because you’re just adding length for the face but hmm, maybe you might be crocheting too loose? I think you should try crocheting a little tighter after you finish rows 4 or 5. I feel like that will help it curve down

    • @JacquelinesLife
      @JacquelinesLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oo uhm if you want to make this smaller you’d have to remove an increasing row. If you do that you will also decrease differently. So whatever row you want to stop at you will starting doing the single crochet rows for however long you want the octopus then you start decreasing. Because I haven’t made a smaller one I don’t know what you will stop at but just make sure you have enough stitches to make 8 tentacles. Also I’m not sure how this will work if you do make it smaller because the yarn is thick but hopefully it does turn out nice!
