I am catholic from Papua New Guinea. I read the story of Saint Augustine in my childhood days from my mama's book of saints. I always remember this beautiful life story of this great and loving mother St. Monica. I now pray for my 14 year old so everyday for God's wisdom and direction in his life. Amen. I mean no offense. It's so hurtful when I observe so many set aside one of Heavenly Padre's Ten Commandments, in that we HIS children are NOT to worship another(paraphrasing). To pray to the mother of our beloved Saviour Yeshua, is sad & bad enough, then to add more individuals to ask to pray for one or you pray to vs praying directly to the ONE & ONLY TRUE GOD, is so hurtful. This is what the Catholic Church ingrained in us, so they would profit $. I use to be a Catholic, began to study to eventually become a Nun, when I learned the KJ Bible & Catholic Bible are so different. I do understand that many Catholics do not feel worthy to pray directly to Heavenly Padre. However; this is the 21st Century & I have found that many KNOW how wrong it is to continue to put the original 12 Saints & beloved Mary (whom was no longer a virgin shortly after our Saviour's birth) plus the many individuals the Catholic Church have bestowed to Sainthood. Its so disheartening. I'm grateful that the CC has evolved & mentions the importance of Yeshua our Saviour, however, many still put other idols like our beloved Mary, Mother of our Yeshua & the Saints in prayer. I pray you all begin to repent regarding this very act, PLEASE. Read the Hebrew Bible, which you'll find translated to whichever language you require & see for yourself where your Salvation is. I'm by far not without faults & bc of my short comings I too continue to strive to do HIS WILL. However; as much as I love entering a Sanctuary that puts our Saviour Yeshua & His/Our Heavenly Padre 1st & acknowledge also the importance of the Holy Spirit's role in our life 1st....I choose to worship as the Ten Commandments instruct. She left (passed away) us long ago. Only after her leaving many years later I came to know about this brave, devoted, courageous saint - Monica. My loving Amma (mother) and Thatha (father - Michael Mathew) both come from strong Catholic background families. My beautiful mother also had a lot of burdens, troubles, pains when she brought up us four children - I, Bennette my brothers Felix and Charles and the innocent sister, she too is Monica. But unfortunately, we had no any one in name Augustine. Anyhow, now we are so happy that She - our mother too was Monica. St. Monica was known for her deep devotion, perseverance, and unwavering faith in guiding her son towards a life of righteousness. However, the movie’s depiction may not have done justice to these qualities, and some aspects might even seem misleading. It’s important to recognize that film adaptations sometimes take creative liberties that might not always align with historical or spiritual accuracy. In this case, the portrayal of St. Monica's behavior may lack the depth of her saintly virtues, and I believe a more faithful representation would have been ideal to reflect her true influence on St. Augustine’s life. I hope that future adaptations strive to better honor the legacy of such an important figure in Christian history.

That he could not marry his concubine was because marriage in Augustine's world was not done with concubines. It involved property , families on the same social and property level and not the wishes of the couple. A mate for him would have been chosen from a family of connections. I mean no offense. It's so hurtful when I observe so many set aside one of Heavenly Padre's Ten Commandments, in that we HIS children are NOT to worship another(paraphrasing). To pray to the mother of our beloved Saviour Yeshua, is sad & bad enough, then to add more individuals to ask to pray for one or you pray to vs praying directly to the ONE & ONLY TRUE GOD, is so hurtful. This is what the Catholic Church ingrained in us, so they would profit $. I use to be a Catholic, began to study to eventually become a Nun, when I learned the KJ Bible & Catholic Bible are so different. I do understand that many Catholics do not feel worthy to pray directly to Heavenly Padre. However; this is the 21st Century & I have found that many KNOW how wrong it is to continue to put the original 12 Saints & beloved Mary (whom was no longer a virgin shortly after our Saviour's birth) plus the many individuals the Catholic Church have bestowed to Sainthood. Its so disheartening. I'm grateful that the CC has evolved & mentions the importance of Yeshua our Saviour, however, many still put other idols like our beloved Mary, Mother of our Yeshua & the Saints in prayer. I pray you all begin to repent regarding this very act, PLEASE. Read the Hebrew Bible, which you'll find translated to whichever language you require & see for yourself where your Salvation is. I'm by far not without faults & bc of my short comings I too continue to strive to do HIS WILL. However; as much as I love entering a Sanctuary that puts our Saviour Yeshua & His/Our Heavenly Padre 1st & acknowledge also the importance of the Holy Spirit's role in our life 1st....I choose to worship as the Ten Commandments instruct. She left (passed away) us long ago. Only after her leaving many years later I came to know about this brave, devoted, courageous saint - Monica. My loving Amma (mother) and Thatha (father - Michael Mathew) both come from strong Catholic background families. My beautiful mother also had a lot of burdens, troubles, pains when she brought up us four children - I, Bennette my brothers Felix and Charles and the innocent sister, she too is Monica. But unfortunately, we had no any one in name Augustine. Anyhow, now we are so happy that She - our mother too was Monica. If I were to express my thoughts on the portrayal of St. Augustine's mother in the movie, I would say that while artistic interpretations can vary, I personally feel that her character in this film does not fully capture the essence of St. Monica as I understand her. St. Monica was known for her deep devotion, perseverance, and unwavering faith in guiding her son towards a life of righteousness. However, the movie’s depiction may not have done justice to these qualities, and some aspects might even seem misleading.
It’s important to recognize that film adaptations sometimes take creative liberties that might not always align with historical or spiritual accuracy. In this case, the portrayal of St. Monica's behavior may lack the depth of her saintly virtues, and I believe a more faithful representation would have been ideal to reflect her true influence on St. Augustine’s life.
I hope that future adaptations strive to better honor the legacy of such an important figure in Christian history.
