camel Lights the player fought a racist Karen, used his animal communication power to summon it. The Karen had 10hp, & did an instant kill. I decided to make the “whale in a bottle” an item, which (when used) rolls 2d6, & every digit up adds 25 dmg (so “5” deals 125 dmg) if it was an item use, it would deal 225 dmg. OUCH
@@CarlyCurly_ I know that it's probably a full size whale out of the bottle but I just imagine it's a really tiny whale with the same body mass as a full size whale so it just flies out into its enemies and the just crumple around it.

I just realized that this is the second boss battle that they broke. First they put the M. Channel gang to sleep, and now they broke the ship to distract the guards and then threw the boss over the edge. I wonder how Johnny feels.

I like to think that this is actually just the everyday lives of the OxBox team.
I love Johnny's face as you can see this elaborate encounter he's concocted just destroyed by the oxbox crew. If you look at 19:20 you can see the precise moment he realizes he can't find a way around their insanity.
GhengisJohn Johnny's plan has a critical failure every single time
Yeah, there's been about 7 or 8 times over the 3 videos where you can almost hear him thinking "oh crap, what do I do now?" Fair play to him though, after a moments pause he just rolls with it and continues the adventure superbly.
He's a fantastic DM for these videos; sense of humour, lenient to errors, very good roleplayer and puts up with everyone even when they continually screw him over!
Yeah, they continually get around his boss battles. :D

Between the charging and the backflipping, I think Dob's the real hero of this story. Hope the next series focuses on his missing sister.
Edit - it's 2019, they've been doing this for two years, and this jest of a wish has come to pass.

DallyDaydream Exactly what I'm saying. I know the last time I played the game, the DM tried to involve little side quests that were each tailored to our characters' individual backgrounds, So if Johnny does something like that here, then that would be awesome and could keep this series going for a year. Plus, they're headed towards some outlying islands; that's pretty much the perfect spot to find evidence of a missing sister
Oooh, good point! And yeah, I love when a) players write plot hooks into their backstories and b) DMs pick them up and run with them. It makes the experience more unique and character-driven. ^_^
Id say leave his till last. Years of adventures, Dob old and grizzly, all these other pasts and storys settled, never hearing the slightest rumour of his sister, till finally one day...
I'd argue Luke's dice are the hero of the story. He was critting like there was no tomorrow.

But I mean, as far as adventure endings go, that was definitely the best.

Outside Xtra if you took loads of pieces of julienned and threw them into the sea , in 2 years would the pirate reform with part of him in the Caribbean , part of him in a shark's tummy and part of him in Dob's hand ?
Dob is a god now, i mean he julienned a pirate AND knocked a guy into the ocean both first try . What level is Dob again ?
Not sure which feat is more impressive: filleting a pirate mid-backflip, or shoulder barging one straight into a whale's mouth, but Dob definitely earned man of the match in this adventure.
This was fantastic, just FYI, in "ballena" double L's are pronounced more like "Y'" in Spanish :)

I like to think Luke learned Vengaboys chords for ukulele purely for this occasion.
Loved the pirate theme for this adventure! would also be cool if future adventures were themed around the other characters traits and pasts

I like to imagine the whale then sends up a celebratory water spout, but instead of water it's an excessive amount of blood and it's full of bones and pirate chunks that just tumble up into the sky.
Some problems with whale anatomy there man.
The whale swallowed the pirate. Mouth and blowhole aren't connected in whales (contrary to humans squirting milk out of their nose)

For these D&D games, my preferred story canon is that James the Camera Man is a magical mystical Leprechaun. Observing the crews exciting adventures from afar, and promptly editing and uploading them to TH-cam.

I like to think of him more as an Archfey, not quite as powerful as a god, but still pretty powerful.

Johnny is the most lenient DM ever. If I'd ordered the crew off the ship after my DM had said "Are you really sure?" in that tone of voice you bet the boat would have sunk.
I think that just makes it more fun.

To be perfectly fair, I don't think the good guy would suggest going home and accepting the love of a father who HIRED FUCKING PIRATES TO KILL HIM!!! JUST TO SAVE THE FAMILY NAME!! Whatever "coresan de leon" did, it is the father's job to stand by him and defend him, not assassinate him due to convenience!

This so accurately sums up what it's like to DM. I had this huge epic fight planned out, it was gonna be super hard but first you rammed the boat with a whale so all the crew are trying to keep it afloat and I had this super epic pirate for you to fight as a final boss but no you shoulder barged him off the boat with a nat 20 so he got eaten by a whale. Great.

It's this series that has single handedly made me consider playing D&D for the first time. Can Johnny teach us all? Such a good games master. Everything to do with this series is brilliant, funny and Dob is by far the most powerful half orc bard in all creation.

I love that the Oxventurers are clearly having a blast. Even when someone tries to do something suave and messes up, it feels just as natural as when they try to do something dumb and succeed

My favorite thing about watching different campaigns at different levels of experience, is how they react to crits. Critical Role explodes into cheers, and the Oxcrew just ominunusly chants "Crit! Crit! Crit! Crit!"

I've been rewatching these and concluded that A Spot of Bother is the best of the adventures. Obviously, I enjoy them all, but from beginning to end, this campaign never lets up with interesting storyline and constant belly laughs. 10/10

I laughed so hard after hearing how the bard did not once but THREE awesome moments in a single quest. Bonus points for awesomeness, way to pull off three miracles in a quest (Backflipping up to a roof and zapping the enemy, backflipping OFF the roof and making pirate sushi, bashing someone SOOOO hard that they got punted into a whale.)

And just like in their first oxventure the crew evades the bossfight by doing something Johnny did not expect. First it was stealthing the gnome, now it's whaleing the ship. What sorcery will they use to not bossfight next time?

Out of all adventures this one is still my favourite. I just love how well Andy plays his character. It's not all that common for someone to get so well into it. Part of it may be because Andy is a little bit of a pirate in his heart

16:17 I absolute love how both Jane and Ellen's personalities are perfectly displayed there. Jane has this immediate response of "cut him" with an evil grin, Ellen has this "ooh tough roleplay moment" then the momentary eye blink "wth" reaction followed by eye widening in not actual horror, but yeah "that's Jane" and amusement reaction (with appropriate eye widening) a second later. This is such a fun campaign.
This whole series should be named "Dob the badass orc". Back flipping on to a roof, electrifying a bunch of pirates, cutting people in to ribbons, healing, and finally tackling a pirate captain straight into a humpback whale were just a few of his achievements through out the spot of bother. :D

Jane's eldritch blasts were nicknamed "Cthulhu lasers" in the previous game, so between the two of them laser sharks are rather plausible.
I mean, why wouldn´t Cthulhu grant sharks eldritch powers, that´s totally awesome!
That's the plot for my next Demon Hunters adventure sorted :)

See the reason I love this channel is because it makes me think, where else can I watch a video that includes: medieval times, the Vengaboys, back flipping, bombs, a Druid and Eldritch Magic, and it still makes some vague form of sense? Thank you for these Oxboxtra :)
