According to german historian Peter Lieb the germans in Normandy 1944 thought that the regular french troops were the toughest of all they were facing. So making them veterans seems to be a good choice.
Being a mech inf list it is hard to play as it is with all inf lists in FoW. I think for a beginner a tank formation is more appropriate. Anyway you made some good choices. Yes, not so much against Tigers and Panthers (or other heavy tanks in a competitive game) but these tanks won't be the majority of your opponents force. And medium artillery is always worth thinking firing at top armour 1 tanks.
-) You have to roll for the air observation post but it appears on a 3+. Always a good spotter for counter battery fire.
-) If I remember correctly the stabilizer of the US tanks in FoW gives you the choice to fire using a ROF of 2 when moving adding a +1 penalty to hit or to fire using a ROF of 1 when moving with no penalty.

Thanks as always for your valued input mate. I'm glad we generally align with our lists. Great point about the heavier tanks too 😁

🎉👏 This was a hard one given that they have no official list. No, you don't roll to bring on the L4, but you get only 1, and it can be shot down. Your approach was correct as the Free French had US equipment and organisation. However, they used British doctrine, but only the purest would be bothering with this. If you were looking for a resistance list, you would have to go V3 Mid-war. If based near the French Mediterranean coast, it could be OSS led. In turn, the OSS has access to US Mariners. An OSS led list is not really any good for tournaments and is best played with local friends as a scenario. The resistance suffers badly as it has no real heavy support. So if the other guy turns up a Police or SS list, it will be a short game. Generally speaking, FFI field units in Late-war were under US direction. Unless de Gaul goes independent and does something like liberate Paris. I found this list interesting as it was off the beaten track.

Ah interesting points. It's great to know about the L4 as ive never used it before ... obviously. Thanks for the historical information too. Perhaps I should give a MW French list a crack 😉

The list is sound but you forgot to pay for the French Command Card (5pts). I'd prune 2pts from the recon, 2pts from the FFI to meet that, or you could get those points elsewhere but it starts hurting. This is a good representation of the units that first entered Paris. Reserves are neat and tidy because the FFI platoon helps, you'd need 33pts reserves if you reduced the FFI platoon (Inf + shermans), 31pts as written (inf + shermans or M10s).

I think the French flew thunderbolts. Not sure when though.

V3 Books (Free) - these are the best books BF have released IMO. The fact they're now free as PDFs is awesome: www.flamesofwar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=102&art_id=6942
