I'm 60 and my knees are beginning to bother me. I was told it's because when I was younger I never properly took care of "minor" knee injuries. Travis, my advice to you is follow the doctor's suggestions. Prayers.

If your daughter hurt her thumb you would do everything possible to make sure that her injury would heal and that she would get the physical therapy to make sure everything healed properly. Do the same for yourself. You are an adult now and not only need to be responsible but you need to show your daughter that you always do what's best even if it is an Inconvenience. You are not a doctor. That is why they spent so many years in college learning. Just like they are not musicians like you are and you know more in that area than they do. That's what growing up is. Taking responsibility and doing the right thing. Even if it costs money because that may be the most important money you spend right now. On Your Livelyhood! What would you do if you couldn't play your instruments? That would really affect your future! Yes, I am a mom and grandma. You owe it to your daughter to take the best care of yourself you can. Good Luck!

Travis, as someone that worked with their hands for a living (dental hygienist) I had surgery on my thumb due to ligament problems. You need to go to a hand specialist and a PT that is also a hand specialist. I had my surgery at the Roosevelt hand center in NYC, I now live in NC but lived in NJ at the time. Please, please, please go to a hand specialist. I was referred to my hand specialist from another hand specialists. He was the hand specialists for the hand specialists when they have problems. Unfortunately he is long retired but if you are a musician DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH THIS. Best of luck and happy healing.

Our daughter struggled with constipation issues as an infant and the pediatrician suggested giving small amounts of pear juice. We had to keep bottles of it in stock at all times, even as a toddler, but it worked really well for her and usually only took an hour or two to get her little system going😊

I would think as a musician that it would be even more important to have PT. I play piano and every finger is working when playing for sure. Though a guitar player or harpist would need their thumb even more than a pianist. Glad your thumb recovered! Sounds like a painful injury. I tore a ligament in my knee years ago and it still can hurt a bit when the weather gets cold.

Coming from someone who's had a pretty severe hand/thumb injury that also involved the tendons....DO THE PHYSICAL THERAPY. It's not "just a thumb" a pinky, yes. The index finger, yes. But the thumb is almost vital to your entire hand function. You have no clue how valuable those thumbs are until you can't use one for an extended period of time. In my case, my thumb was cut to the bone right at the second joint on the inside so it's right where you bend your thumb when using it. During surgery the Dr's had to dig down into my wrist to retrieve the other end of the tendon to reconnect it so that I could regain some form of movement after it healed. I had to be in a full on arm brace (up to my elbow for a month....keep in mind the injury was to my thumb and thumb only. My hand nor any other fingers were involved) then I was in a hand brace for another month. All because when healing....tendons are like mashed potatoes (that's what my hand surgeon told me) granted yours wasn't severed like mine, I'm just trying to tell you how delicate they are. 15 plus years later I still don't have 100% movement back, I'd say 95 if I had to guess and about 80ish % feeling back. I can't quite feel the ridges on the edge of a quarter, which is how the physical therapist graded my long term nerve damage. It's an ordeal when you mess up a thumb so take care of that hand!!!!

First I want to tell you I had an accident in Switzerland and broke both my knees and (at the time) straight away told my husband that I had hurt my toe. (big toe) I had to have a four hour surgery on both knees and spent a week in the hospital over there. When you can't walk for 7 weeks, you aren't worried about your big toe. Four years later, I just had to have surgery on my toes. The big toe had all the bones crushed in the joint and it doesn't bend. That isn't what was fixed. The second and third toe was going right and left. It was painful and I put up with it for 3 years. They said I had torn the ligaments in my toes and they cut them. I am 3 months out, I have worn a spacer 24/7 and I have been told they don't think cutting the ligament has fixed the problem. The thought of another surgery is just too much for me to think about right now. My advice is to do exactly what the doctors tell you. I had physical therapy and it did help strengthen my knees. You do not realize how much your big toe and your thumb is used and how they are used. Go to therapy!!

  • @melissaashley9847
    @melissaashley9847 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hoping Travis is feeling better, and very much hoping he does the PT 🙂 While your thumb is small, it is a vital part of hand function and you for sure want to have it heal properly. Ligament tears are awful, much longer healing time than bones, and that PT will help so much! I broke 3 bones and tore nearly every nerve and ligament in my foot when I was 5 months pregnant with my 2nd boy. The bones healed completely within 5 months, it’s been over 6 years now and there are still nerves and ligaments in my foot that haven’t fully healed (although I do pretty much have full function of my foot with the exception of my toes not being able to move quite right still haha)..I know PT can be annoying, but it will help, I promise!

Praying for a complete recovery for Travis. I would also encourage Travis to do whatever the doctor says concerning the physical therapy. I also have heard if you do not do that, especially since you are so young, you could actually have much greater problems when you are older. Even to where it might turn into some kind of a deformity in your hand/thumb.
I had a fracture on my hand and had to wear a cast for eight weeks at least. Everything is great now!

If the constipation with Hailey persists you can massage her belly in a clockwise position (not immediately after eating). Or certain stretches can help babies have bowel movements. La Lactation LLC has TH-cam videos demonstrating some ways to help babies poop.

Please do physical therapy. Your thumb is really important! A horse stepped on my right hand 2 years ago and they said that I am fortunate to still have my thumb. My pt said that you only have I think 90 days or maybe 120 days and wherever your recovery is, that is where it stays. Do the exercises they give you and when they ok you to move it then really push to move it. I only regained half use in my right thumb and a little better in next 2 fingers. The therapy can be painful but push through it because you have your whole life ahead of you and a fully functional hand is important. I deal with stiffness still and always will but very rarely is it painful. God bless you and give you a quick recovery. I'm praying for you. Soft tissue damage can be far more serious than a fracture or break. 👍🙏

Just an FYI, if she is 100% breast-fed with no formula it’s not unusual for them to poop once a week. One of my children did that (she’s now a 37yr old ), the only caveat is you do want to be home on the day that they poop because it ends up being from head to toe and they need a full bath! 😂
Travis, the doctor is correct, torn ligaments are way more painful, and a longer recovery than a broken bone. Katie is correct. You definitely want to do physical therapy.

Another thing to remember is that exclusively breastfed babies actually can go weeks without having a bowel movement and that's actually perfectly normal because breastmilk is so perfectly made for their body. Like I said in the other post, so many pediatricians give bad info on this and totally overlook the great benefit of chiropractors and probiotics. If there really is a good issue that will definitely help, giving juice this young will really just mess the gut up more.

I fell downstairs and put my hand down to stop myself and bent my thumb backwards. I tore the Ulnar Collateral Ligament that holds the base of the thumb to your hand and tore it 3/4 of the way through. I had my hand in splits for 9 months and my thumb wiggled from side to side. Gross I know. As it never healed I got referred to an orthopaedic nurse for review who said it would never heal by itself being a ligament rather than a bony injury. I needed surgery on it and It’s on my right dominant hand too and so it’s left my hand extremely weak and my thumb set at a weird angle.
If yours doesn’t heal completely and you know that it isn’t back to normal go back and insist on a review. My hand specialist OT should have picked this up and now I’m left with reduced movement and no pinch or key grip xx
Haley is so cute!! And getting so big! I’m gonna be a grandma for the first time in August to a baby girl my oldest daughter!! I can’t wait for baby cuddles with Layla!! Xx 12:24

Hope baby Hailey is doing better but just in case she’s not or this happens again in the future you can pour quite a bit of organic olive oil in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together to warm it up and then rub her belly all around especially over the intestine area (left front side) until it’s fully absorbed in. Do this a few times a day until it helps. My great grandmother taught me this and it has always worked. After massaging the belly gently for awhile, you can even place a lightly warm heating pad to help absorb it in.
Kinda funny we just landed a bit ago from visiting Camden and we were in that same rain on Friday. Hope Travis heals quickly too.

He worked and worked and with therapy he can play his guitar...praise the Lord. Thanks for all your videos. I love to hear you sing. Hi Katie and Travis. Dilute prune juice with water or Miralax mixed in her milk helps to stimulate bowel movements in infants. Check with her pediatrician 1st, but if all else fails, a suppository made from Ivory Soap and lubricated with Vaseline may be needed. Both of my girls had digestive issues as infants and a combo if these things helped. Also lightly pushing both of babies knees at the same time to her chest helps.

Travis... with all love... do the therapy. I have developed painful arthritis in my wrist and thumb because I was a hard head and refused to do therapy. Now, I have tremendous pain when I try to play the piano, and I can't stretch the width to play the octaves. Sometimes we bring trouble on ourselves because we try to save a little bit of money. I have to admit that I don't always listen to the doctor because I feel as if they are more motivated by government directives than carrying for the patient. However, in this case, I recommend that you listen.

Breastfed babies can go a while without pooping. Breast milk is complete nutrition so there really isn’t much waste. My daughter went 10 days once.

Yes, listen to Katie and the Dr's advice. You are young and with a little physical therapy, you should heal just fine. Don't let things go because when you get older like me, you will end up regreating it. Love and prayers for your family. ❤

Please go to a specialist and do physical therapy. At 22, you are optimistic but you need to medically treat it the best you can and heal properly. Especially as a musican. Please think long term. Prayers for you all.

I tore ligaments in my thumb years ago and it was brutal. If I hit it just right now it still gets me. Good luck Travis.

Travis, advice from a musician and band teacher here. Do the PT. Take care of the injury now. It’s worth it to take care of it now so it doesn’t get worse. My chronic pain and injuries almost took my career. Take care of it correctly now.

I would add white karo syrup to her bottle once a day, like 1 tsp. And shake. That what I used for my babies!
