- After building points for a Colorado elk tag for 18 years, Elk101's Corey Jacobsen cashed in his points and experienced one of the most insane elk ruts he's ever witnessed. However, all of the elk were loaded up on private land, in a unit that is comprised of over 70% private land. The challenge was being able to catch one on public land, or call them off the private land during the peak of the rut...
Sitka films presents "Eighteen Points", a film produced by Cana Outdoors. Join Corey Jacobsen and Donnie Drake as they work to find big bulls on public land in western Colorado.
He’s just too good. Am always rooting for him and Donny - just super humble, regular guys with gobs of skill. Enjoy anything Corey produces!
Good film, but after an 18 year wait and almost a year after harvest I was really looking forward to at least a half hour hunt film. Congrats on the success.
You guys never fail to impress me! I very much enjoy watching you and your family hunt. What a great Bull! Congratulations Brother.
I really enjoy all thing Elk 101 and even got the first University of elk hunting DVDs then the online version years ago but I’ve watched this video three times now and I was disappointed in it. I watched it three times over the last two days just to make sure.
For me, I’ve always enjoyed the storytelling aspect of watching your elk hunts as well as the emotional journey. This film was a series of chopped up scenes with little to no context. Just constant cut scenes to another elk walking by.
Corey is so talented at relaying what is happening to the viewers during the hunt and this film had none of it. Not even a post shot interview, tracking job. Was this a 10 day hunt? A one day? Who knows.
Honestly, this felt more like a trailer for this hunt than the actual hunt itself. I’d love for a longer version to be released that captured the in the moment thought processes and the emotions. The story started out good talking about how long you waited and how your previous hunts were but then it stopped abruptly.
You’ve spoiled us with over the top videos and now I’m left wanting.
Great video! It’s nice to see a video of this unit where people hunt the public just like us regular guys. Thanks
Congratulations!! Thanks for taking us on your hunt.
Well, my day just got better. Taking a break from work, jumping on the treadmill for 10, and watching this. Thanks CJ.
Everyone needs a Donny on their team! Great hunt, man you guys work hard.
Congrats on your hunt! Always enjoy watching your shows and listening to your podcasts! Keeps me fired up for elk season!
Sweet video! Really enjoyed it!
I remember you talking about the hunter years back that you ruined baby having this super high expectation. Your change in perspective for this one, 18 years in the making, was awesome. Congrats on your success!
Nothing more exciting than sneaking into their bedroom and getting in close like that! Love it!
Thanks to Sitka for sponsoring this hunt video. Congrats on a great hunt! 18 years is a long time
Definitely know what you went through.
I waited and waited & had 12 points before I finally drew out on my Utah limited entry Elk tag. Glad it took me that long though. I matured and gained patience, skills, experience and more of the love of the hunt. All those years of waiting paid off when I finally tagged the biggest bull I ever got. Excitement and other mixed feelings flooded over & came all at one time. But I think the best part of it all is that I was with two great friends that I had known for years to share in that experience with me! I thank the Lord for that day and will never forget...
really appreciate the storyline. epic approach to the challenge and overall experience.
Dang elk101 videos are always elk packed. Congrats gentlemen. The last scene with him on the cliff edge with the wind blowing and a big bull strapped to the pack..wow. postcard pic.
Congrats. Great film. As always, team “Dory” or is it “Connie”, don’t matter, you guys are the best.
Thanks, awesome country, great video. Hats off to Sitka.
Thanks Corey for taking us along. I love your philosophy on harvesting an animal that "speaks" to you, instead of just looking for score.
Donny did great!
Absolutely beautiful production and fantastic video.
Thanks for doing what you do. I enjoy watching your videos and the effort you and Donnie put into them.
Awesome hunt Cory. Loved the end of the video with you standing on that rock.
Another quality film from elk101! Thank you!
Great video! After listening to elk talk podcast I have been waiting for this video. Only negative I have is that I Wish it was longer. 😊
Nice. Always glad to come along on your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic film and an obviously very rewarding hunt experience for you and the crew. Congrats on a great bull and keeping your priorities where they should be. You are an example to us all and a great spokesman for the hunting community. Thank you for producing this kind of content, our sport desperately needs it.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing Corey and Sitka! Love it
Thanks for sharing your Colorado hunt with us Corey. That was awesome.
So awesome! Cool to see a hunt down in the oaks and canyonlands here in Colorado. Been waiting to see this footage for almost a year now. Great film!
Congrats on another awesome bull, Corey!! As per usual, another awesome video from Elk101!!
Congrats Corey! Excellent work by the CANA crew in capturing the experience you had! This video reminded me of what you and Will Primos said in The Linguists, "It's a lot more than just shooting an elk".
Linguists is one of my favorites forsure. Aways excited to see something from Cana
Great hunt and video ! Thanks for sharing your passion !
Another great video! Congratulations on a great bull👍
Awesome man! Congrats!
Fun to watch but now I want to see the hunt in a day by day series so I can really enjoy it.
I agree, it felt like a preview.
Killer!!! Such a hype video just in time for September
Thank you Corey, this is awesome! Thank you for sharing so much!
Beautiful bull, great film & production. I hope you had an enjoyable hunt with great friends.
Congrats! Awesome video! Pumped for this season!
Beautiful! Great hunt, great video production, and total appreciation for what you went through. Thanks for sharing!
Great shot!
Nice job sir!! Keep doing great work. Appreciate you.
A long time to wait, well done
Not to sound ungrateful because I really enjoy your content. You hyped this up during Destination Elk, and we get less than 10 min of content on something you took 18 years to cash in on? I guess I just wanted more, expected more. Anyway congratulations on your elk Corey. He’s a big beauty!
great Corey, been missing you and Donny
Congratulations Corey. Awesome bull. Great hunt. Just a few days before season open , I hope you and Donnie are ready. I ve hunted Co 27 years public land. This the first year I’m not going. People say there must be something wrong with me. Lol. Looking forward to y’all hunts this year.
what great vid too bad it was short Thanks for sharing your success with us
Glad you were successful. I was with my father and brother last year and there were very few elk in our unit.
Awesome stuff Corey, congrats!! I just wish you guys (John?) had edited that and we could have seen more of the experience. I appreciate Sitka doing the video but your Elk101 video productions are 5X better. More raw and real and in depth. Can't wait for DE this season!
Nice bull!! Excellent video.
Awesome 👏 to see and hear 👂 all of the amazing action that you and Donnie got into on your extremely long awaited elk hunt in Colorado. I currently only have 5 points in Colorado for elk, hopefully 🤞🏻 I’ll be able to apply and draw a hunt there someday soon.
Congratulations 🍾 Corey and Donnie, way to get folks pumped for season with this short film. 😃🏹
Congrats on an epic hunt and harvest! Awesome content as always and just in time to get pumped for this season. Beautiful bull!
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Holy cow that's some different country. I imagine you could have made this an hour long and hey, if you feel like it, I'd love to watch it! Such a cool hunt Corey, Donnie, and all.
Great job guys. Keep up all the great work. I can tell you have grown from your first videos Corey. 👍👊
Good stuff Corey!
Cory is the to elk hunting as Michael Jordan is to basketball. Hard work, experience and natural talent beyond reach of most mortal men. It is magical watching him hunt elk.
Love it Corey 👌🏼 awesome vid, thanks for sharing
I hunt turkeys in that unit, know it well. Knew exactly where you were. Glad you pulled em off that private to the west. I've tried to call em over a couple times but never got em to move. That last couple miles to the parking area there can be treacherous if there has been any rain, road gets slippery quick. Glad you got one. Awesome job.
awesome video and bull Corey congrats
Beautiful bull !
Great day and hunt in Colorado Corey nice bull
Never ending excitement .
First view and comment!! I absolutely love when the elk101 videos post
Congrats!! Great Bull!!
Awesome video. It looks so easy in Colorado. That's it, I'm putting in! 😂
Great bull great film, 🤙🏻🤘🏼
Awesome hunt boys!!
The private land vs public in Colorado is very frustrating. Probably 80% of the game moves to private land when archery hunters hit the woods. The animals feel the pressure and go to where it’s safe. To get access to that private land, you need more money than most of us have or can spend on a hunt. And to get a quality ranching for wildlife tag to get access to these private lands you wait close to 20 years for enough preference points to draw the tag. Unfortunately big game hunting in Colorado cares only about the money and only the well off hunters can participate due to the cost. That’s why I love learning from Corey. He hunts public land with success. It can be done but most of us can’t dedicate what Corey has to elk hunting. Congrats Corey.
Awesome bull Corey congrats
Looks like a beautiful place to hunt elk!
That's a hot, steep unit and unfortunately the elk don't know to stay on the public haha. I've seen some studs taken out of there too. LOVE the editing style
I like these guys. I always enjoy their hunts and I love seeing them be successful. I live in CO and have 23 elk points. I still can't draw Unit 2...
You and me both buddy
CanDonny be hired out? I truly enjoy the videos of you two working together. I'll be on a solo hunt in Arizona again this year. Hope the action is as good as you had on this trip[. Thanks for sharing your comments on your views of a successful hunt.
Awesomeness 🤙🏽🏹🥩💯❤️
Sick
Enjoyed the video! For some reason it will not let hit the thumbs-up "like" button...?
Great job Corey, I was looking forward to when this video was going to come out. Surprised you were kneeling for the shot. Was it to shoot below the brush? Good luck this fall!
Enjoyed this, but the jerky zoom, sudden transitions, and in-and-out of focus made this harder for me to watch than a lot of previous Elk101 videos (love the Destination series!).
Congrats Corey! Excellent production. I’m ready to burn my Colorado points now 😂 🏹
Nice bull Corey
STUD-the bull that is😂
What unit were you hunting? Me and My hunting partner started hunting unit 55 out of Gunnison but now they use the Draw so we hunted unit 68 called in some elk but never scored. also hunted out of South Fork No luck!! I'm 75 now and bad health Hunting partner also in bad health age 74> We had some great times bow hunting Colorado, Love those mountains!! God Bless!!
Good video. Good hunt. But this unit has gotten pounded due to popularity. Not like it once was. I live here. Back in the day, I could get an archery tag every other year as a resident. I’ve killed some giants there myself, but even as a resident, it takes along time now to draw. Well done though on your hunt. 👍👊
I have 28 points for Colorado. Looking at units 2 and 10
Look like fun hunt
Time for ldaho hunt now
So when are you and Donnie going to send me a invite?
Please post the rough cuts! Not near long enough
I’m at 22 points. Hope the wolves don’t ruin the place before I hit
Congrats. Moral of the story, burn your points. Colorado isn't worth it lol😅
Colorado is pathetic. It is nothing more than a circus full of hunters.
