I think Diego's fear of water could have still worked if it was linked to the events of the first movie. Diego definitely felt guilty for being the reason why Roshan was growing up without his mother... he made her jump off a waterfall, and he probably learned from Manny and Sid that she died in the river. What if Diego was afraid of water because every time he looked at it, it reminded him of the fact that he killed the mother and basically ruined the baby's life? But no, he had to be afraid of water just because he is a cat. -.-
In the film itself (based on how it was written), That seems kind of pointless, although I get that he's a cat, but compared to everything else in The Meltdown, it looks weak and out of place. I think the third one does this better (at least in the first few minutes), because the main characters are at a point as to where they are all at a mid-life crisis and need to figure out what to do next, but like I said, the first few minutes.
@Zita Á. And as he developed over time, he grew into a very different character, they could have written him as a shadow of his former self, ashamed of his actions. His fear of water could have been an excellent characteristic.
Looking back at Dawn of the Dinosaurs, it honestly feels like it was supposed to end the franchise (especially with the arcs of the characters being about moving on in seperate paths), but some executives at either Bluesky or Fox saw how much money it made and decided to milk the franchise dry.
The first Ice Age movie is the absolute best in the franchise. I enjoyed the second and third ones. Didn’t care much for the fourth one. The fifth one was BEYOND DISAPPOINTING. The only thing I enjoyed about it is how they brought in a tiny bit of Manny’s theme music from the first movie at the end. That’s literally the only thing I found enjoyable about it. They told the baby they’d never forget him and yet he hasn’t been MENTIONED EVEN ONCE in ANY of the sequels! I hope they bring him back or at least mention him. Show him as an adult and have him reunite with the herd and meet Ellie, Peaches, etc. And end the series with that.

Ice Age 1: Definitely the best by far Ice Age the Meltdown: It was a fine follow-up. Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Best of the sequels, Buck was a fun dude and it should've been the end of the franchise Ice Age Continental Drift: I didn't mind it, It was ok. Ice Age Collision Course: Did not like it one bit, Definitely a sad disappointment, and it also ruined Buck's Character Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild: *Why are we still here*
Buck deserved his own sequel but Crash and Eddie kinda spoiled it. I wouldn't mind a prequel about Captain Gutt and his crew, though. Would love to see Gupta get more screen time cause I think he's got the coolest CGI character design I've ever seen (A pirate flag badger? HELL YES!).
As much as these terrible sequels are... well... terrible, and people wish Ice Age was a stand alone film, I actually am glad some of these exist, because without crappy sequels you can never truly appreciate the brilliance of the first film. Think of it that way guys!
DUDE I was so upset at how Peaches and Lewis weren't together in the next movie since they seemed so perfect in the fourth. In fact, the whole part of that plot was Peaches realizing Lewis was a better friend than any of the mammoths she tried to hang out with including her crush. If Lewis were her new crush it would play with the idea that the love of your life may not be who you think they are which is a valuable lesson for teens since they usually just try to get with the first person they think is cute. Plus her relationship with Lewis was so valuable that Lewis actually was the only one trying to save her and despite him being a coward and Peaches being bold and daring she still enjoyed hanging out with him more than with the other mammoths. It was cute it was new and it fits in with the concept of Ice Age having different species relationships and a unique herd. But nah just give us a different hIp WiTh ThE kIdS character as her new love interest. It's one of the many reasons why I pretend the fifth movie didn't exist.
I couldn't agree more with all of this. If you're going to make all of these sequels, then please properly build upon the ideas you established! In other words, don't relegate Lewis to a non-speaking cameo in the fifth film!
@@Fallingwithstyle1995 In Ice Age 2, Manny was flanderized because of the way he treated Ellie by staring at her ass as a form of sexual harassment (in Blue Sky’s previous film, they knew how to do a sexual big butt joke right in Robots with Bigweld and Aunt Fanny) and then afterwards, he gave her a fake apology and because he would go as far as to give her the insults he planned to give her during the minefield scene (as IA2’s excuse for the characters to split up), it shows. And yet he (and other Ice Age characters) could actually get worse in the 2010s, especially Sid’s family the ones in Ice Age 5 like Sid by doing the same thing Manny did that made Ellie and her possum brothers uncomfortable during the scene where Sid tried to propose to a sloth that hated her because he treated her like shit by gaslighting her. At this rate, hopes that Sid would deserve a girlfriend have finally been lost and yet he’s lucky he even got one! Because he could lose her by uncomfortably talking about how big her ass is and call her “stubborn” and “bitch” for refusing his fake apology like “That came out wrong!” to boast his toxic masculinity (in the same way as Manny in IA2, but worse. WAY WORSE.).

Ice Age: Continental Drift is a strange one because I feel the core of a good film hiding beneath all the... Ice Age 4. There are ideas here that if fleshed out properly probably could have worked, if given more attention. Sid's family, for one. In the film we have they're a throwaway joke at best that only serve to deliver the iconic and very necessary character Granny, which rubs me the wrong way. Here we have arguably the single greatest opportunity to really explore the core of Sid's character, for us to really see why the Herd is important to him, why he valued getting the Baby back to its family in Ice Age 1 so much. Sid's family is abusive, abandoning him and later abandoning Granny because they are "dead weight". Diego even points out how that "explains a lot about Sid". Here we have a perverted, twisted version of the family dynamic that Manny is fruitlessly trying to cling onto with Peaches. Does the movie do anything with that? Hell no. Why not use this not only to explore Sid's relationship with the Herd to a greater extent, but also give more weight and purpose to the plot with Manny and Peaches? Dig deeper into what Dawn of the Dinosaurs touched upon with Sid's need for respect, whilst also having Sid's dysfunctional family be what drives Peaches as she reflects on her own familial relations now that her father is potentially gone forever? Nah, instead we have generic sitcom drama and whacky old lady jokes. Expanding on that are the antagonists themselves, Gutt's crew. THEY ARE SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Here you have the perfect chance to demonstrate a twisted, darker version of the Herd we have grown to know and love... or, at least tolerate. They're a found family, but this one is dysfunctional, less loving with everyone seeming to have at least some disdain towards one another. Why not use that to parallel the main characters? Why not have the other pirates (namely Shira) feel like they're practically being held captive by Gutt to better exlpore Manny's need to let go of his daughter and let her grow and be independant? Nah, instead we'll have silly pirate shenanigans. It's just so bizzare, it feels like they wanted to make a movie with some heart but gave up halfway through or something.

The third film had the ear marks of a finale. They really should’ve ended with the last one. What was Fox thinking? I can even tell that Blue Sky didn’t want to do more than three.
I know most people aren't a big fan of Manny's family but I think if they extrapolated on his history further it would work. What if in the 2nd, Manny was the reluctant one. What if ellie found him and she was the one suggesting a romantic relationship, and while Manny may have liked her he was reluctant to open up to her. Maybe ellie could relate to loosing her family at a young age or a brother recently, they could help each other. And then when we get to peaches it's far less the haha stereotypical over protective dad and we delve into how he handles this second chance. Maybe he starts projecting onto her and refuses to leave her side out of fear of something bad happening. He is paranoid that he will loose her and he has to come to terms with life being dangerous but ultimately needing to let go and let her live her own life. How peaches isn't his last kid and furthermore shouldn't be treated differently because of his paranoia.

I can certainly see that- it shouldn't be an obligation, you're definitely right. I'm mostly interested in consistency. Peaches meeting her future husband offscreen between films is unsatisfying.

Also, while it’s confirmed that both Disney and 20th Century Animation are producing it, but I’m wondering who will provide the animation for it since Disney unfortunately shut down Blue Sky Studios in April 2021 (but at least Blue Sky’s run with the franchise ended on a high note with both Scrat Tales and that final piece of animation they made where Scrat Finally Ate His Acorn). Honestly, Diego should have been the central character of the trilogy instead of Manny. He had way more potential back in Ice Age 1 but then got sidelined in the next two movies like a Miraculous Ladybug character.
I loved the original as a kid, had it on vhs. It was kind of mellow, understated, even gritty at times. That scene with the cave painting coming to life still gives me chills. And it was a pretty unique idea to use these bizarre ice age animals instead of more marketable ones.
Ending got me a bit emotional there, good job. Makes me want to watch Ice Age again (The only point I disagree with you on is Buck though, I can't stand him. He's tolerable in the third movie, but he's worse than any other character in the fifth).

I just rewatched the first movie and I noticed something else: remember the bracelet the Neanderthal dad puts on Manny's tusk? The fact that that didn't show up at all in any sequels is kind of...disrespectful to the memory of Roshan and his mother, but mostly I was just reminded how good the original is. Is the third one worth rewatching at all?
Very good point. Even the inclusion of that bracelet and no other comment on the humans would have been better than the nothing they ended up doing in the sequels. And the third one, like I say in the video, definitely doesn't take itself as seriously as the first one, but give it a watch if you're in the right mood for something silly and light, with still more respect for the characters and originality than any of the other sequels.
He is my favorite character along with the original trio. I find him amazing. 1. First novie 2. Third movie 3. Second movie But in the fifth movie his character was terrible, it hadn't that spark of wild and interesting A parody of himself. I still get goosebumps when i see "...rudy.." scene

@@Fallingwithstyle1995 I'm kind of a sucker for the synching of words with your script at 10:53 - and the repeted Chris Wedge joke [as seen in 22:28] helps with furthering the insanity about the decay of this series. Maybe I just like the Scrat voice too much, but I dunno. 36:00 is also nice because of how that's just a nice editing joke to help sink in how horrible that line is, and as that reality sinks in the joke gets funnier. I really like the jokes throughout the video and I defenentally wouldn't say stop doing scripted jokes as that's what makes it so I don't get bored. And they compliment the overall comedy sense of the drastic comparisons between the series. EDIT: Also 9:31 gets more funny the more I imagine it in my head.

To be fair in Despicable Me 2 it was only Agnes who wants a mommy, Margo and Edith is only helping Agnes to get Gru a special Date but to be honest Lucy did work in despicable me 2, remember Gru was just a supervillain only to become a dad in despicable me 1, but in the second film we can see why Gru didn’t need a wife in the first place with a hilarious and depressing flashback sequence, plus Gru didn’t give the love at first sight cliche it only happens after he had his failed date which Gru and later Lucy finally confess their feelings from one another, despicable me 3 while the long lost brother cliche works Sometimes Dru has some creepy vibes going on but he’s mostly funny but it’s his plot is I just want to impress my dad is stupid

Same, 2, and 3 were ok, but they were so different from the original, I just call them completely different films. The first was definitely the most grounded, while as it progressed, it just tried to make up weirder ideas so people would stick around, instead of making any attempt at a more interesting narrative.

The 1st Ice Age: as someone who is the least nostalgic for the 1st movie, it is impeccable in my opinion Ice Age 2: I’m the most nostalgic for this movie so in that sense, I love it but on its own, I still like it Ice Age 3: Really good. As someone who has zero interest in a romantic relationship but a strong interest in being a parent one day, I whole heartedly agree with your thoughts on the Despicable Me sequels. Especially with the 3rd one where Agnes calls Lucy mom at the end when none of the girls have ever called Gru dad. Look, I'm sorry but I just found that really insulting to the first movie. After everything the girls and Gru went through in the first movie they still call him Gru but they just let Lucy get called mom because.... nuclear family.
Also Ice Age 5 itself seems to be aware and proud that it's given the main characters family of the same species to hang out with instead now. You know how in Ice Age 1-3 whenever the characters were shown sleeping they would be sleeping together in an open space so they would occasionally interact? Well in this one there's a shot where they're all sleeping and they're all sleeping in different roles in rocks right next to their love interest with rock walls separating them. And if that isn't a visual representation I don't know what is. Talk about being compartmentalized, they are PHYSICALLY being compartmentalized. I'm probably looking way too deep into that one shot but still, thought it was interesting.
They should’ve ended after the 3rd movie. The first 2 had heart and the 3rd one I thought was the funniest but didn’t have the adult entertainment value that the previous 2 had beyond the jokes which mind you were actually incredible

Honestly, I loved the Ice Age movies as a kid, but when I saw the fifth one come out, I knew it was definitely time for it to be done. I liked that Buck was back, and that Sid finally got a love interest, but everything else I felt like was to crazy espeically when you look at the first film.
I've never seen any movie after 3, so I gotta ask: why is Peaches' "hair" tied? What did she use? Who did it? How can you tie your hair when you don't have thumbs?
My opinion on these movies: Ice Age: Funny, heartwarming and charming Meltdown: Good sequel, but not as good as the first. Dawn of dinosaurs: Pretty good. Buck was definetly best part. This is where the series SHOULD have ended. Continental Drift: Pretty bad. Only chuckled twice. Collision Course: Good lord its bad. Every character was lobotomized, the story is nonsensical and the goddamn modern lingo.
The only thing I didn't like about this video was because of the volume being low and the footage and music was louder. I guess it's because of your screaming but I still agree with everything in this video. Ice Age is a franchise that tries to be cool (no pun intended) but fails miserably especially after the 3rd movie.

Personally, I enjoyed the ice age franchise. But if we’re being realistic, it should have ended at the third movie. The fourth if we’re being generous. Here are some issues I had with the sequels - One of my biggest quarrels with the franchise was how much manny’s character was ruined in the 5th movie, and how much it completed contradicted his character growth in the fourth movie. They also had Ellie suffer the exact same thing in the 5th movie. - The need to have every character have a love interest. Brooke was a meaningless character and literally felt like a plot device for Sid and didn’t bring anything to the movie. Shira I could argue that she didn’t need to be with Diego but I like their relationship. Julian is an exception as his position actually has some relevance to the movie. - The complete modernization of the 5th movie. I get they were going with more silly approaches to ready a more light hearted audience, but they way they began the ice age franchise felt like they really lost it all. It lost the potential it could have had. - This one is just a minor nitpick, I don’t like how they completely changed peaches’ design from looking exactly like Ellie to a completely different design. They should have made her look different from the jump if they were gonna change her.
This is the best Ice Age review I've seen to date. I also thought that the sequels felt like sitcom episodes, I can't believe u think that way too! I've seen to many people shit on the first one because it has a simple story line, these people obviously don't read and get f's in English class. One of my critics is that in dreadful number 5, there was sexism left and right by Manny (also present in number 2, Ellie says she "overreacted" to refusing Manny's advances on her😒) and for some reason Peaches has a Christian wedding?? Shes a Mammoth! I think thats the only time this franchise has put any human culture into the story. I also thought Peaches was going to pick Luis, or why does she have to pick a mate? Thanks for your video, I could tell it wasn't fuelled by hate or misreading of it. You understand every film, which everyone should cause it's not complicated. thanks xx
While i did find some of the anger in this video to be a little over done the video is still really good. I'm a Ice Age fan myself and man the movies really went downhill after the 3rd movie (the Meltdown was alright but still not as great as the first). And this must be said: Collision Course is complete garbage. That Manny scene you mentioned in Collision Course pissed me off so hard when i saw it for the first time. It was so out of character and is nothing like the Manny we love in the first movie.
There can never be too much anger for a franchise as important as Ice Age being mishandled! And yeah, that scene will annoy me to no end haha. Thanks for watching.
I’m actually one of the few people that doesn’t mind the fourth movie. At least you can tell there was an attempt and had it’s moments. I too wanted Peaches and Louis to be together, I’m just a sucker for interspecies romances. The fifth movie is by definition, a true disappointment though. It’s no wonder Blue Sky shut down if you really think about it. Sad but true.
I like Shira and Louis! Louis is the cutest character, and I was so sad they didn't add him into the fifth movie. He makes a single cameo and his relationship with Peaches is just gone!

Peaches & Louis was the highlight of the 4th movie and really the only found memory of it because looking back- yeah the film is not good...... or well, could've have been better (they all copuld have been as mature and dark - and timeless as the first movie). And not having watched 5... knowing about what happens... grrraaaaauggh.. WHY!? Peachouis.... whatever we'll call them- it was perfection... and they just threw it away....
The 4th film to me had the best villian who felt like a true final boss for the Herd (although if I wrote the film, Buck would have returned and he would have fought Gutt instead). Had the series ended there… I’d have been grinning from ear to ear. That being said, one could ignore the fifth film and the first four films work as a great trilogy with a nice epilogue.
Hot take: take out all the non-scrat scenes in the fifth one, and it would be so much better. Bro needs his own movie, but got his own shorts series, which I see as a win!
Read recently somewhere a floated idea for Ice Age Five (or whicehever one theyre on) would include the baby coming back to go on an adventure with the main cast now full grown and able to SPEAK TO THEM because of their bond years ago. So ridiculous, im almost glad they just left him peace with his family in the first movie
Opening up that story thread again comes with a lot of risks. You are right. In a way, the first film will always be at least a little untouched if they never show him again.
I think Diego's fear of water could have still worked if it was linked to the events of the first movie.
Diego definitely felt guilty for being the reason why Roshan was growing up without his mother... he made her jump off a waterfall, and he probably learned from Manny and Sid that she died in the river.
What if Diego was afraid of water because every time he looked at it, it reminded him of the fact that he killed the mother and basically ruined the baby's life?
But no, he had to be afraid of water just because he is a cat. -.-

In the film itself (based on how it was written), That seems kind of pointless, although I get that he's a cat, but compared to everything else in The Meltdown, it looks weak and out of place. I think the third one does this better (at least in the first few minutes), because the main characters are at a point as to where they are all at a mid-life crisis and need to figure out what to do next, but like I said, the first few minutes.

Looking back at Dawn of the Dinosaurs, it honestly feels like it was supposed to end the franchise (especially with the arcs of the characters being about moving on in seperate paths), but some executives at either Bluesky or Fox saw how much money it made and decided to milk the franchise dry.

The first Ice Age movie is the absolute best in the franchise. I enjoyed the second and third ones. Didn’t care much for the fourth one. The fifth one was BEYOND DISAPPOINTING. The only thing I enjoyed about it is how they brought in a tiny bit of Manny’s theme music from the first movie at the end. That’s literally the only thing I found enjoyable about it. They told the baby they’d never forget him and yet he hasn’t been MENTIONED EVEN ONCE in ANY of the sequels! I hope they bring him back or at least mention him. Show him as an adult and have him reunite with the herd and meet Ellie, Peaches, etc. And end the series with that.

As much as these terrible sequels are... well... terrible, and people wish Ice Age was a stand alone film, I actually am glad some of these exist, because without crappy sequels you can never truly appreciate the brilliance of the first film. Think of it that way guys!

DUDE I was so upset at how Peaches and Lewis weren't together in the next movie since they seemed so perfect in the fourth. In fact, the whole part of that plot was Peaches realizing Lewis was a better friend than any of the mammoths she tried to hang out with including her crush. If Lewis were her new crush it would play with the idea that the love of your life may not be who you think they are which is a valuable lesson for teens since they usually just try to get with the first person they think is cute. Plus her relationship with Lewis was so valuable that Lewis actually was the only one trying to save her and despite him being a coward and Peaches being bold and daring she still enjoyed hanging out with him more than with the other mammoths. It was cute it was new and it fits in with the concept of Ice Age having different species relationships and a unique herd.
But nah just give us a different hIp WiTh ThE kIdS character as her new love interest. It's one of the many reasons why I pretend the fifth movie didn't exist.
I couldn't agree more with all of this. If you're going to make all of these sequels, then please properly build upon the ideas you established! In other words, don't relegate Lewis to a non-speaking cameo in the fifth film!
@@Fallingwithstyle1995 In Ice Age 2, Manny was flanderized because of the way he treated Ellie by staring at her ass as a form of sexual harassment (in Blue Sky’s previous film, they knew how to do a sexual big butt joke right in Robots with Bigweld and Aunt Fanny) and then afterwards, he gave her a fake apology and because he would go as far as to give her the insults he planned to give her during the minefield scene (as IA2’s excuse for the characters to split up), it shows.
And yet he (and other Ice Age characters) could actually get worse in the 2010s, especially Sid’s family the ones in Ice Age 5 like Sid by doing the same thing Manny did that made Ellie and her possum brothers uncomfortable during the scene where Sid tried to propose to a sloth that hated her because he treated her like shit by gaslighting her. At this rate, hopes that Sid would deserve a girlfriend have finally been lost and yet he’s lucky he even got one! Because he could lose her by uncomfortably talking about how big her ass is and call her “stubborn” and “bitch” for refusing his fake apology like “That came out wrong!” to boast his toxic masculinity (in the same way as Manny in IA2, but worse. WAY WORSE.).

I was literally just talking with a friend today about how this video went under the radar, whereas a video about Ice Age with similar points from last month got almost 700,000 views! I probably just need to rebrand my channel and/or upload more consistently, but whenever I make a video, it's out of the passion for it. And I definitely have passion for the Ice Age franchise and what's become of it, and that's really why I made the video, since I felt like the longest-running theatrical animated series deserved a closer look. So I'm grateful that you appreciated it!
Ice Age: Continental Drift is a strange one because I feel the core of a good film hiding beneath all the... Ice Age 4. There are ideas here that if fleshed out properly probably could have worked, if given more attention. Sid's family, for one. In the film we have they're a throwaway joke at best that only serve to deliver the iconic and very necessary character Granny, which rubs me the wrong way. Here we have arguably the single greatest opportunity to really explore the core of Sid's character, for us to really see why the Herd is important to him, why he valued getting the Baby back to its family in Ice Age 1 so much. Sid's family is abusive, abandoning him and later abandoning Granny because they are "dead weight". Diego even points out how that "explains a lot about Sid". Here we have a perverted, twisted version of the family dynamic that Manny is fruitlessly trying to cling onto with Peaches. Does the movie do anything with that? Hell no. Why not use this not only to explore Sid's relationship with the Herd to a greater extent, but also give more weight and purpose to the plot with Manny and Peaches? Dig deeper into what Dawn of the Dinosaurs touched upon with Sid's need for respect, whilst also having Sid's dysfunctional family be what drives Peaches as she reflects on her own familial relations now that her father is potentially gone forever? Nah, instead we have generic sitcom drama and whacky old lady jokes.
Expanding on that are the antagonists themselves, Gutt's crew. THEY ARE SUCH A MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Here you have the perfect chance to demonstrate a twisted, darker version of the Herd we have grown to know and love... or, at least tolerate. They're a found family, but this one is dysfunctional, less loving with everyone seeming to have at least some disdain towards one another. Why not use that to parallel the main characters? Why not have the other pirates (namely Shira) feel like they're practically being held captive by Gutt to better exlpore Manny's need to let go of his daughter and let her grow and be independant? Nah, instead we'll have silly pirate shenanigans. It's just so bizzare, it feels like they wanted to make a movie with some heart but gave up halfway through or something.

The third film had the ear marks of a finale. They really should’ve ended with the last one. What was Fox thinking? I can even tell that Blue Sky didn’t want to do more than three.
They were thinking with their bank account with how much money it made.
I know most people aren't a big fan of Manny's family but I think if they extrapolated on his history further it would work. What if in the 2nd, Manny was the reluctant one. What if ellie found him and she was the one suggesting a romantic relationship, and while Manny may have liked her he was reluctant to open up to her. Maybe ellie could relate to loosing her family at a young age or a brother recently, they could help each other. And then when we get to peaches it's far less the haha stereotypical over protective dad and we delve into how he handles this second chance. Maybe he starts projecting onto her and refuses to leave her side out of fear of something bad happening. He is paranoid that he will loose her and he has to come to terms with life being dangerous but ultimately needing to let go and let her live her own life. How peaches isn't his last kid and furthermore shouldn't be treated differently because of his paranoia.
Well, Blue Sky didn't do that idea you just expanded, so......yeah. They completely failed to flesh something out that could've made it a good sequel.

Fast & Furious! I don’t care what anyone says, I’m forever grateful for it because Bayformers is so bad makes Ice Age look like Step Up in terms of pentalogies!).

I can certainly see that- it shouldn't be an obligation, you're definitely right. I'm mostly interested in consistency. Peaches meeting her future husband offscreen between films is unsatisfying.

But I’m happy that the original actors are coming back to reprise their roles.
Also, while it’s confirmed that both Disney and 20th Century Animation are producing it, but I’m wondering who will provide the animation for it since Disney unfortunately shut down Blue Sky Studios in April 2021 (but at least Blue Sky’s run with the franchise ended on a high note with both Scrat Tales and that final piece of animation they made where Scrat Finally Ate His Acorn). I’m betting either DNEG or Reel FX or Cinesite or Sony Pictures Imageworks, who knows.

Honestly, Diego should have been the central character of the trilogy instead of Manny. He had way more potential back in Ice Age 1 but then got sidelined in the next two movies like a Miraculous Ladybug character.
I loved the original as a kid, had it on vhs. It was kind of mellow, understated, even gritty at times. That scene with the cave painting coming to life still gives me chills. And it was a pretty unique idea to use these bizarre ice age animals instead of more marketable ones.
Ending got me a bit emotional there, good job. Makes me want to watch Ice Age again
(The only point I disagree with you on is Buck though, I can't stand him. He's tolerable in the third movie, but he's worse than any other character in the fifth).

I just rewatched the first movie and I noticed something else: remember the bracelet the Neanderthal dad puts on Manny's tusk? The fact that that didn't show up at all in any sequels is kind of...disrespectful to the memory of Roshan and his mother, but mostly I was just reminded how good the original is. Is the third one worth rewatching at all?
Very good point. Even the inclusion of that bracelet and no other comment on the humans would have been better than the nothing they ended up doing in the sequels. And the third one, like I say in the video, definitely doesn't take itself as seriously as the first one, but give it a watch if you're in the right mood for something silly and light, with still more respect for the characters and originality than any of the other sequels.
Buck is one of my favorite characters apart from Shira, Diego, crash, and Eddie, and Peaches, and Julian.
He is my favorite character along with the original trio. I find him amazing.

@@Fallingwithstyle1995 I'm kind of a sucker for the synching of words with your script at 10:53 - and the repeted Chris Wedge joke [as seen in 22:28] helps with furthering the insanity about the decay of this series. Maybe I just like the Scrat voice too much, but I dunno. 36:00 is also nice because of how that's just a nice editing joke to help sink in how horrible that line is, and as that reality sinks in the joke gets funnier.
I really like the jokes throughout the video and I defenentally wouldn't say stop doing scripted jokes as that's what makes it so I don't get bored. And they compliment the overall comedy sense of the drastic comparisons between the series.
EDIT: Also 9:31 gets more funny the more I imagine it in my head.

To be fair in Despicable Me 2 it was only Agnes who wants a mommy, Margo and Edith is only helping Agnes to get Gru a special Date but to be honest Lucy did work in despicable me 2, remember Gru was just a supervillain only to become a dad in despicable me 1, but in the second film we can see why Gru didn’t need a wife in the first place with a hilarious and depressing flashback sequence, plus Gru didn’t give the love at first sight cliche it only happens after he had his failed date which Gru and later Lucy finally confess their feelings from one another, despicable me 3 while the long lost brother cliche works Sometimes Dru has some creepy vibes going on but he’s mostly funny but it’s his plot is I just want to impress my dad is stupid

Same, 2, and 3 were ok, but they were so different from the original, I just call them completely different films. The first was definitely the most grounded, while as it progressed, it just tried to make up weirder ideas so people would stick around, instead of making any attempt at a more interesting narrative.
I’ll happily take Ice Age 2 and 3 over Ice Age 4 and 5 any day!

Even though I do enjoy the sequels, The first was my childhood movie and will always love it.
The 1st Ice Age: as someone who is the least nostalgic for the 1st movie, it is impeccable in my opinion
Ice Age 2: I’m the most nostalgic for this movie so in that sense, I love it but on its own, I still like it
Ice Age 3: Really good. This film is so fun and the writing is a lot better overall compared to the second movie, even if I do prompt it up for nostalgia

As someone who has zero interest in a romantic relationship but a strong interest in being a parent one day, I whole heartedly agree with your thoughts on the Despicable Me sequels. Especially with the 3rd one where Agnes calls Lucy mom at the end when none of the girls have ever called Gru dad. Look, I'm sorry but I just found that really insulting to the first movie. After everything the girls and Gru went through in the first movie they still call him Gru but they just let Lucy get called mom because.... nuclear family.
Also Ice Age 5 itself seems to be aware and proud that it's given the main characters family of the same species to hang out with instead now. You know how in Ice Age 1-3 whenever the characters were shown sleeping they would be sleeping together in an open space so they would occasionally interact? Well in this one there's a shot where they're all sleeping and they're all sleeping in different roles in rocks right next to their love interest with rock walls separating them. And if that isn't a visual representation I don't know what is. Talk about being compartmentalized, they are PHYSICALLY being compartmentalized. I'm probably looking way too deep into that one shot but still, thought it was interesting.

Honestly, I loved the Ice Age movies as a kid, but when I saw the fifth one come out, I knew it was definitely time for it to be done. I liked that Buck was back, and that Sid finally got a love interest, but everything else I felt like was to crazy espeically when you look at the first film.

My opinion on these movies:
Ice Age: Funny, heartwarming and charming
Meltdown: Good sequel, but not as good as the first.
Dawn of dinosaurs: Pretty good. Buck was definetly best part. This is where the series SHOULD have ended.
Continental Drift: Pretty bad. Only chuckled twice.
Collision Course: Good lord its bad. Every character was lobotomized, the story is nonsensical and the goddamn modern lingo.

The only thing I didn't like about this video was because of the volume being low and the footage and music was louder. I guess it's because of your screaming but I still agree with everything in this video. Ice Age is a franchise that tries to be cool (no pun intended) but fails miserably especially after the 3rd movie.

Overall, this review has better writing and a more engaging story than the Ice Age sequels (let alone, 4, 5 and the Adventures of Buck Wild especially). I’m also surprised that you never sweared at all, especially while raging (which I may missed something, but cool). Well done man.
Personally, I enjoyed the ice age franchise. But if we’re being realistic, it should have ended at the third movie. The fourth if we’re being generous. Here are some issues I had with the sequels

One of my biggest quarrels with the franchise was how much manny’s character was ruined in the 5th movie, and how much it completed contradicted his character growth in the fourth movie. They also had Ellie suffer the exact same thing in the 5th movie.

The need to have every character have a love interest. Brooke was a meaningless character and literally felt like a plot device for Sid and didn’t bring anything to the movie. Shira I could argue that she didn’t need to be with Diego but I like their relationship. Julian is an exception as his position actually has some relevance to the movie.

The complete modernization of the 5th movie. I get they were going with more silly approaches to ready a more light hearted audience, but they way they began the ice age franchise felt like they really lost it all. It lost the potential it could have had.

This one is just a minor nitpick, I don’t like how they completely changed peaches’ design from looking exactly like Ellie to a completely different design. They should have made her look different from the jump if they were gonna change her.
Shira is bland with no personality and Julian is an annoying dick.

This is the best Ice Age review I've seen to date. I also thought that the sequels felt like sitcom episodes, I can't believe u think that way too! I've seen to many people shit on the first one because it has a simple story line, these people obviously don't read and get f's in English class. One of my critics is that in dreadful number 5, there was sexism left and right by Manny (also present in number 2, Ellie says she "overreacted" to refusing Manny's advances on her😒) and for some reason Peaches has a Christian wedding?? Shes a Mammoth! I think thats the only time this franchise has put any human culture into the story. I also thought Peaches was going to pick Luis, or why does she have to pick a mate? Thanks for your video, I could tell it wasn't fuelled by hate or misreading of it. You understand every film, which everyone should cause it's not complicated. thanks xx
While i did find some of the anger in this video to be a little over done the video is still really good. I'm a Ice Age fan myself and man the movies really went downhill after the 3rd movie (the Meltdown was alright but still not as great as the first). And this must be said: Collision Course is complete garbage. That Manny scene you mentioned in Collision Course pissed me off so hard when i saw it for the first time. It was so out of character and is nothing like the Manny we love in the first movie.
There can never be too much anger for a franchise as important as Ice Age being mishandled! And yeah, that scene will annoy me to no end haha. Thanks for watching.

I’m actually one of the few people that doesn’t mind the fourth movie. At least you can tell there was an attempt and had it’s moments. I too wanted Peaches and Louis to be together, I’m just a sucker for interspecies romances.
The fifth movie is by definition, a true disappointment though. It’s no wonder Blue Sky shut down if you really think about it. Sad but true.
I like Shira and Louis! Louis is the cutest character, and I was so sad they didn't add him into the fifth movie. He makes a single cameo and his relationship with Peaches is just gone!

Peaches & Louis was the highlight of the 4th movie and really the only found memory of it because looking back- yeah the film is not good...... or well, could've have been better (they all copuld have been as mature and dark - and timeless as the first movie). And not having watched 5... knowing about what happens... grrraaaaauggh.. WHY!? Peachouis.... whatever we'll call them- it was perfection... and they just threw it away....
The 4th film to me had the best villian who felt like a true final boss for the Herd (although if I wrote the film, Buck would have returned and he would have fought Gutt instead). Had the series ended there… I’d have been grinning from ear to ear. That being said, one could ignore the fifth film and the first four films work as a great trilogy with a nice epilogue.

Opening up that story thread again comes with a lot of risks. You are right. In a way, the first film will always be at least a little untouched if they never show him again.
