    Brilliant British product. I have been using mine for approx 2 years now.
    I have a Busa and have used the ABBA skylift for all maintenance , just recently stripped , cleaned and regreased my rear suspension linkages, a doddle with this lift. I cheat a wee bit when fitting the lift to the Busa, I put the bike into a A frame front wheel chock first and simply lift it up out of it and reverse this procedure when finished with the lift purely so I don't drop the bike, the Busa is low a heavy and a bit tricky fitting the lift normally. That said, what an absolutely brilliant British product. 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Like you, I'm a bit gun shy about getting the pins into the swing arm while balancing the bike. But, if you have a paddock stand ( which I do ), use that first on the swing arm. That put's the bike securely upright, then mount the Abba stand. Well done on the video. One more voice in the affirmative for purchasing really helps.

    Just ordered one. I’m worried about tilting it forwards or backwards with fuel in the tank, so I’ll probably run that down very low before doing any work on the bike.
    It’ll pay for itself fairly quickly and I think it’s cheap when you consider how much people blow in a year on things like booze and cigarettes. 👍

    • @SIMONB1
      @SIMONB1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey up 50 pence, never thought about that, but then I don't fill my tank up before I get home after a ride, so usually it's not full, but with a thought, yes it's a good bit of kit, but still expensive for what it's made from 🤔, I am a tight arse 🤭, you'll like it , ride safe, Simon B 👍

    Great video but there seems to be a hell of a lot of weight on the two pins going into the swing arm pivots with only a bit of weld to hold them securely to the lift frame, I think I'd like to see a little quarter gusset section welded underneath to give the pin extensions a little more support, I would always be fearing they would snap off with all the weight of the bike on them if I had to rag the bike about a little. I'd also like to see a support arm coming out to the rear as well as the front arm, if you removed the forks the bike could become rear heavy and I could see it toppling over backwards. I'm happy to carry on using my bench lift as it sinks into the floor so doesn't take up any room, I like the idea behind this lift but it's a bit too fiddly.

    • @SIMONB1
      @SIMONB1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mick, thanks for the comment and dropping by, it seems to work rather well, the lift and bench both have advantages and disadvantages, your has a great plus, going into the floor, that's cool, hope your subscribed, stay safe 👍, Simon B

    Great review Simon, certainly helps you understand the mechanics of it, can’t help feeling there would be an easier solution to raising bikes, got me thinking about developing one, yours works well, but, I wouldn’t call it easy for numb nuts, you do need to have a fair amount of methodical thinking, I’m sure many would be frightened of using one, and the possibility of scratching the bike when fitting it into place is certainly a risk, food for thought 👍🏻

    Late to the party. I bought one recently. It is over priced but makes up for it by easier access around the bike. I've just changed the brake lines on my Trident 900 and the lift raised it to a convenient height thus avoiding having to kneel down on a concrete floor. Also it will make doing a oil and filter change less of a chore.

    Like you I used to own a (Clarke)hydraulic ramp (which was and still is cheaper than a sky lift btw) but sold it because of the amount of space it takes up in a standard garage when storing more than one bike, but in the end I decided that the Sky lift is just too expensive for what it is then you have to purchase pins and dowels separately, it may well do the job but on reflection I don't think its good value for money and I'm sure in the not to distant future someone will come up with a viable alternative, nice review though.

    • @leeengland1277
      @leeengland1277 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It isn't just about the sum of its parts, it is about freeing up space and the practicality and ease of use. Buy a ramp that takes up a lot of room, then you still have to get the wheels off the ramp so you can get the wheels off so you then buy paddock stands if your bike doesn't have a centre stand and we all know that bikes can and do fall off a paddock stand if you aren't concentrating. Also, the Clarke ramp is a lot more expensive than the Skylift, which is a shame but I guess Clarke also added a covid tax to their goods. Both have their flaws but the Clarke ramp has more flaws than the Skylift.

      Hey up arcboutant, it can be mounted from the right side but this would make it harder as the side stand is on the left, you pick the bike off the side stand roll the abba stand to the fixings and then attach the other side, it's just the natural way to do it, same as pushing the bike into a parking spot, you do it on the left where the side stand is 😁, hope that helps, ride safe, Simon B 👍
