It still sounds like that, connect and audio coupler to DSL or cable net and you'll hear the sound of static "shhhhhhh" with sine wave tones .... Broadband modems quit connecting speakers to the devices. But as a fiber tech we can still connect a speaker in rare cases to listen for signal/noise
