  • 9091 pulling out for route 34 at 49th & Woodland when the shoe carbon followed onto the wrong wire and left it. Watch the operator put carbon back on the under side of the wire after the pole swings back and fourth. This is a common intersection where the trolley poles jump the wires.

    Bad wire frog there. Almost every car deadheading to Baltimore Avenue loses the pole there.

    it should be stopped immediately after losing the pole so as to prevent further damage to the overhead wiring

      well how was the driver supposed to know that the pole fell off

    • @jemdude22
      @jemdude22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kennysbusdrawings The driver couldn't see that power had been cut off? There's usually an alarm that would go off when a trolley pole is disconnected from the overhead contact wire. Even if there's no alarm system (almost all trolleybuses have such), the driver should also be able to see on the dashboard that "line power" had been lost.

      @@jemdude22 Well this is a streetcar not a bus so IDK if it would have a battery

      That would be extremely dangerous if it were in an intersection.

      On 9000 and 2700 series cars you have to hear if the MG turned off. These cars have batteries for low voltage accessories. It's also a 25 ton piece of rolling metal so of course it won't stop on a dime

    Interesting this never happens in Newark and the Kinki Sharyo's don't have frogs. LOL!

    I think they didn't realize there was a switch in the catenary causing them to accidentally go onto the one going right

      Oh no. This happens pretty frequently. The frog is worn and this isn’t the only 1.

      @@kennysbusdrawings the frog are the wire switches. They’re called frogs due to their shape.
