      Hi Caren.
      Of the restaurants in Gallup run by your family members, Grandpa's Grill is the only place we haven't been to....yet! A few people have mentioned Grandpa's Grill in the comments section of this video and Google reviews look real good, so we'll go there next.
      We visit the Gallup area twice a year - each visit is for a few months at a time. In fact, we'll be in the area again in late March, 2023. We run into Gallup a few times a month to stock up on supplies and we usually grab a bite when we're in town.
      Viewers like you have given us plenty of reasons to keep grabbing breakfast, lunch and dinner in Gallup whenever we can. Thanks for watching and thank you so much for letting us know about the lovely family connection between these three restaurants!

    Wow - you eat a lot in a day! ;) I wasn't hungry before I started this video - now I am famished! That lamb dish at the Oasis put me over the top. I was wondering, don't they serve tzatziki (or do you not like it)? We call the skewers souvlaki and spell hummus with a "u". But, man, the quality and portion of that lamb looked incredible! We had a large wave of immigration to Vancouver from Greece post WWII - so Friday night Greek dinners were a tradition for UBC students and young hipsters in the 80s (washed back with 1.5 litre bottles of Retsina and with the occasional belly dancer rolling through). (Sadly, the youngsters moved on to sushi and poke bowls). Anyway, Gallup was not on my radar before - but now I want to work my way through your recommendations. Bon Appetit/ Provecho!

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You wouldn't believe how much food we can put away in a day! 😉😂 Thank you so much for watching, Dan - we're happy knowing this video made you long for something tasty! Sadly, there was no tzatziki on the menu. Confusingly, there are many alternate spellings when it comes to Mediterranean/Middle Eastern foods in the U.S. such as Baba ganouj/ghanouj/ghanoush; kufta/kofta; kabab/kabob and finally hummos/hummus. Lamb hardly EVER features on menus in the U.S. so we are more than happy to take advantage of it when we can! Not only were the lamb and beef fantastic, but the salad and the rice were also amazing! It's rare to rave about a salad and rice, but here at Oasis they were both beyond delicious. Sushi and poke bowls are lovely but it sounds like Friday night Greek dinners in the 80's at UBC would have been right up our alley. We hope that New Mexico (and Gallup) are firmly on your radar during your next drive down south to Mexico - and we hope that happens sooner rather than later.

      @@ACoupleofDrifters Fingers crossed - it looks like things are falling into place for our annual trip to Puerto Escondido and Mexico City in December. If we drove, it would be 59 hours to PE (5 days of 12 hour driving; or just 48 hours to Mexico City). We could run a pool to guess how many topes would be crossed during the drive. One day perhaps - but we can take the red eye direct to CDMX in 5.5 hours and catch the first morning flight to PE and arrive for a late breakfast. When you factor in hotels, road meals, gas and wear and tear (on me and the car) - I think air travel is the way to go for now. I am looking forward to seeing you (on YT) back in Mexico!

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're very happy to hear things are looking good for your trip to Puerto Escondido - this is great news! Aside from the lack of topes, how do you feel about likely flying instead of driving this time? At least with air travel there's no need to worry about border agreements - enjoy your time in Mexico! How long will this trip be? Last but not least: We really do appreciate your sticking with us AND our New Mexico videos - this means a lot to us, Dan. In a week we'll be back in Mazatlan, hopefully churning out good videos! We'll see you in Mexico soon! One final question: What are the things you look forward to most upon your return to Mexico?

    • @matero30
      @matero30 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ACoupleofDrifters I enjoyed the video, but just so you know, for some reason the names of the foods that got popular in the US are different than the popular names in the middle east. What's called kufta here is just kabob back there. The chunks of meat called shish kebab here are called shigaf back there. "baba ghanouj" is also hardly heard, and the popular name is mtebbel. Tsatziki is Greek, but many Arabs will serve lebneh, buttermilk or a yoghurt based sauce with meat dishes.

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Ibrahim! Yes, it's interesting to note how the names of these dishes are quite different from country-to-country. In general we suspect things like spices/cooking styles/how the dish is served, etc. varies quite a bit too - this goes for many types of foods from around the world which have been brought from one land and have adapted/evolved in another country over time.

      We can easily devour messy _smothered_ burritos using a knife and fork although we've never ordered a burrito from Genaro's served that way. Having said that, we prefer burritos to be of the hand-held type. No matter how they're served to us, the taste of the burrito and the quality of the ingredients matter most in our opinion.
