I had my bushwacker flares installed by the dealership new but with all the offroading and beach riding the rubber grommet traps a ton of sand and dirt on the lip of the grommet. To give me more space with larger 37" tires I had to remove the flares and discovered that all the time offroading and vibrations driving had caused very bad wears were it pretty much went thru the clear coat all the way to the paint layer. I high recommend to not run flares or if not the least check up every month of the grommet and make sure they're clean and not trapping sand and dirt back there.

I do have these flares. My only issue is the rubber seal is not holding tight around the gas cap and the very edge. Other than that I haven’t had any issues.

When I bought my TSS packaged tundra I took my flares off within the first week. Truck was brand new, and already had paint rub from the flares. Took them off and have left them off.

@@Tundra4x4Club Did it leave permanent damage to the paint or were you able to buff it out? I currently have them installed on my 2018 and am having an issue with the rubber grommet also and one of them is loose. I'm considering taking them off but not if it is going to reveal paint damage I cant fix.

Flares look very good on the tundra but you need to lay down some type of paint protection film first. If not, overtime they will rub into the paint through the clear coat. Also they
Love to trap dirt and debris behind the flares.

I used a 0.30” 3M black pin stripe and laid it down on the wear mark left over years of wear. I noticed it when I removed them to replace my rubber gasket/seal.

Are they really even needed? I have problems spending that much money on a cosmetic plastic upgrade

I don’t own these but from looking at the install video I think that they look really cool but at the end of the day are a very poor design as the rubber gasket will never keep water out and can also collect mud, sand, dirt, and up north in Canada salt. In short order you will have rusting fenders.
In my opinion someone needs to design a metal solution which will hold a tight seal against the existing fender.

What if you plasti dip the area where the rubber goes? Maybe that would protect the paint from being rubbed. I was wondering if you could fill in gap around it also with plasti dip.

Im worried about moister getting between the flare and the Fender. Anyone have issues with that? Rot out rust?

Lol a guy who doesn’t like mud on his truck, I’m in the south and thats what it’s all about, After watching this video I feel like you’re trying to hold Bushwacker over a barrel, I’m sure when you spoke to them about your issues you also just happened to mention the video you made.
I mean I get it, they should stay on your vehicle for more than a year but that approach doesn’t sit very well with me, you’re trying to get free stuff my man.
With that being said, I just bought a truck with the same flares on it that are coming off LOL
