Thanks for sharing. I haven't tried it yet with my 14 Tundra, but I hear if you turn all your nannies off and place the truck in tow mode its a different beast.
Oh my lord. Dude this was so helpful. Now I understand why when the big snow storm hit Texas last week I could not get up the hill my truck literally could not go no more.. & I got stuck once at the beach & I couldn’t understand why.. dude 10000 points for this vid 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you soo much for explaining this to a man who was stuck back in the 70's chevy new process 205 transfer case days. I am nkw up to speed with my modern 2021 Tacoma! You did an excellent job of explaining.
Thanks alot. This short video help alot to where I need to know about the traction control button. You are a great teacher as well. Such a big difference
Great video. As a suggestion, you could have also mentioned 4LO as well as locking the transfer case to get locked 50/50 distribution of power to front and rear differentials. The locked transfer case function does amazing magic on slippery and loose (e.g. sand/gravel) surfaces.
Woow! Thanks for the video. It was digging a whole in my head for months. When my toyota prado was stuck, I put it on 4Lo and traction control was automatically off, but then when I kicked the throttle pedal to the bottom, rpm didn't go over 2,000 rpm and car was still stuck. It was really strange. It happened twice. No idea what was happening. I was thinking it was most likely due to an underpowered/small engine problem and was thinking about changing my vehicle, for months. Now I have to go out and check it, but I am in a Covid lock-down, haha. I have to wait for 2 weeks. Thanks for this!!! really don't understand why Toyota doesn't produce this kind of videos.
This was your last posted video .. what happened? Hope all is well with you and family looking for some wheeling videos of tundras brought me here thanks for taking the time to post all this stuff up for everyone to see.
Thanks for the video!!!! One thought...you refer to the computer traction aids as nannies. I agree but without the nannies the Tundra is an open diff front and rear. Very limiting off road. Therefore we are reliant on the nannies (electronic limited slip) to make this truck a capable off road vehicle. My question and my understanding is... First mode LSD ON the computer brakes spinning tire to send power to opposite tire with traction and also controls/limits throttle input. The second mode LSD ON TRAC OFF is braking aid for LS but turns off computer throttle control. Which is tricky because you don’t want to over heat the brakes. Third mode all off. Open diff no computer throttle control. Is this your understanding/experience????
Thanks this is going to help alot with my supercharger. Frustrating going through a corner or accelerating onto the freeway when its rainy and it cuts power.
@@tundrawhisperer4821 yes it helps with spirited driving. VSC will cut power when you need it most. I drove alot with it off until recently. I was making a left turn and both my driverside tires hit oil/coolant on the road. As I accelerated into the turn it fish tailed violently several times. Feathering the throttle I was able to recover and didnt hit anything.
Thanks for this video, I think this is very helpful for as you mentioned, going up hills. Do you have a video on going down hills without hill descent? Something that speaks about engine braking?
How can I add the traction control off button on my sequoia? It's a platinum 2011 but this button is not added and I'm not sure if I can make it with the three options you talked about
I just found this video. Got a 2020 pro in 2020. I though lsd was automatic. I always put 4hi in snowy/icy midwest roads. This is great info. Can the trac off be used with 4h on? Can the auto lsd be used with 4h on?
I found out about this when I would go to make a right hand turn into traffic and my truck fall on its face then after about 2 secs of “wtf” it would come back to life. I realized the power was being retarded and wasn’t the traction control just kicking on and killing power. The Vehicle Stabilty Control VSC was being activated. I learned how this feature and now it’s common practice to turn this off when I plan to drive in places it’s needed. Plus it’s way more fun off-road and I can go full send Baja style!
Great video. I am here because texas had some snows this week and my 2WD tundra was so useless in the snow condition and I felt disappointed. Do I have to repeat this process anytime I start my vehicle or I only have to do it once until I decide to turn it back on? Thanks.
Would the traction control have anything to do with my 2020 limited not going into 4 lo on an incline? Even when I roll backwards to make sure the truck is in neutral, the light flashes and it beeps and will not go into 4lo, seems like I have to be on flat ground and then it works fine...
Touching base on this video hopped in my 2014 tundra and out of the blue i got it detailed and now it says only on the display no the "illumination light" it says on the display "traction control is off" i have no CEL or dtcs never encountered just the display being on saying that with no other "illumination lights" followed is there anyone else who encountered this and if so any recommendations???? Thanks
When I have the traction control completely off and hit some soft sand another little yellow light starts flashing, it’s like another traction control symbol. Is that normal?
@@adurosola I’m still a bit confused about all this. It’s doesn’t seem there’s a single perfect mode for off roading. Not sure what mode to always be in.

Pretty sure AUTO LSD is the old “ATRAC”. My old FJ had an ATRAC switch to activate this control. On the Tundra i think its the AUTO LSD. I got my tundra off camber with one wheel from each axle suspended. It wouldn’t move in 4H. I activated AUTOLSD and it worked through like old ATRAC. See my post above. It explains my thoughts on both AUTOLSD functions. By the way after reading the manual for the 10th time I think I am mis-remembering this event. I need to test again to confirn. Ugh
@@AngerManagementOverland Interesting, i thought ATRAC was on with all nannies on, without activating auto-lsd. Here in MN when the ground freezes, my sloped incline driveway gets patches of ice.
