Recently I bought a book for German practice and lessons. The digital copy was provided to me quickly however I had to install an app to use it. I was literarily shocked when the app asked me to have access to my Google Drive, photos, contacts, and documents!! Of course, I didn't agree. Why on Nebula they would need such personal information? I just want to study German on my own and practice. Additionally, I just want to share the fact I am already 4 months without Facebook and Twitter... It feels really good :)) Cheers.

From interviewed definition of surveillance (comparing to East Germany):
    - Following your around: Google Maps.
    - Microphones in your home: Google home and some mobile apps.
    - One of your friends informing on you: Listening and photos apps, checkins and so on can record and report data about you. There was a good study on how Facebook will track people with privacy settings using other devices near them.
So, why wouldn’t you call it surveillance if all 3 arguments are satisfied?

American culture increasingly resorts to BIG WORDS, finding relief uttering them, without offering any detail or definition. Enemies are smitten mentioning "freedom," "communism," "socialism," or "democracy." These "systems," we trust, manufacture reliable formulas for the future. "History," on the other hand, does not need a plan. History happens, without giving credit to any government, people, political party, religion, or culture. We call it "history" and assign responsibility after the natural order of things has evolved, which may be violent, peaceful, or just plain uninteresting. Conservatives take "Relief Factor," per Sebastian Gorka, EVERY DAY. The once enjoyable WILD WEST of the internet is daily falling into the detritus of CORPORATIZATION. These unholy "juridical personhoods" do not have the same interests as private human beings. They are in fact not human beings. Google a "reverse phone number look up," and a long list of "free" directories instantaneously appears, but on inquiry, none of them are actually free anymore. Like everything else in capitalism, cartelization falls into motion like vultures preying on 3-day old roadkill.

It should help democracy. More data is good. People can share their opinion and take influence on products and policies. It could take democracy to the next level. But the public sphere needs to catch up with the private companies and make them handle their users' data responsibly and transparently. For example people could store their data in a verified data center network, publicly funded, and the applications will only interface with these data storages. People have full control of their data and applications even don't have to worry about storing the user data. This is actually what some blockchain based networks have done.
