  • Todays on Unusual Things Famous Grave visit, we go to visit master of Comedy Peter Cook, also famous for his comedy partnership with Dudley Moore.
Peter Edward Cook (17 November 1937 - 9 January 1995) was an English comedian, actor, satirist, playwright and screenwriter. At the age of nearly 72 i am sadened to see how young my favourite celebrities have passed, far too young to have lived full lives, never forgotten.

      Young 🤔
It was a miracle he got anywhere near 72 the way he abused his body.

"Dear Peter Cook, would many years ago, call up LBC Radio, pretending to be Norwegian fisherman 'Sven'. complete with accent, & totally cheeky!. He's probably still, telling his Mrs endless jokes, in a variety of accents!. Bless!. Thanks for showing us their final resting place. Best wishes".🙏🕊️🕯️

I love the early hours of the morning. I think it’s the best time of day when the birds start their day also.
I know who Peter Cook was but I’m too young to know his comedy.
The great thing about your videos is I tend to go and find out more about the people you cover. I find it so interesting.
I’m love walking round graveyards. I’d like to visit Highgate one day.
Thank you for getting up so early, and driving hours to get there.
    It is much appreciated.
    Thank you 💖💖💖

That was a cracking video. London churchyards are an incredible oasis in the city. Peter was 57 when he died of , basically, booze but he enjoyed his life and enriched others' including mine who was a Private Eye subscriber for many years until Brexit came along. Thank you.

The huge old fashioned Oliver Twist style lamp posts at the start are so cool. Beautiful area. I laugh so much at 'Mr Jolly Lives Next Door' (one of the Comic Strip, Rik Mayall series). Peter Cook as the crazy Mr Jolly (who was not jolly at all in it!!) Brilliant.

Wow what a beautiful churchyard cemetery thank you for showing us Peter Cooks grave. My parents grew up watching Pete and Dud and loved both of them. My experience with Peter was when he stared in the movie “Supergirl” in the early 80s. Rest in Peace Peter💐 love Dudley to especially the movie 10 and Santa Clause the movie. My mum has a close up photo of Dudley from the late 60s when he came out to Melbourne Australia to play piano in concert. ❤️love from Australia 🇦🇺❤️

I was always more of a Dudley Moore 'fan' due to him appearing in more mainstream comedy and films (I was born in 1961) so much of his early TV stuff would have escaped me. I was shocked to find out that Peter Cook was local to me - I never knew he was born and raised in Devon.

Love Pete and Dud, can you imagine those two presenting I'm a Celebrity, what a double act. You can Google them now doubt and see their sketches like Derek and Clive sitting at a pub table with Petes dead pan face and Duds twitchy face comments.
One of my favourites is their end of a Top of the Pops singing "Goodbye ". Duddly was a talented pianist which was worked into their act. Thanks again Paul.

Watching a Miss Marple film on TV (love the old b&w films!) and I wondered if you'd done a visit to Margaret Rutherford's resting place . . . I've had a search on your video's and can't find anything so am here making the suggestion.
She's a truly fantastic lady with lots and lots of interesting history some of which would probably be a great surprise to your many followers and subscribers. I know she's buried, along with her husband, in St. James's Church, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. She has quite a distinctive headstone so I think you'd find it pretty easy.
Hope you don't mind me making a suggestion . . . I'm watching 'Murder She Said' right now as I'm typing, and I thought she'd make a really great subject for one of your video's.
Have a blessed day Paul. ~ Cobs. (uk)

Another good one mate 👍 The model for The Young Ones and anarchic comedy long before 1980s "alternative" stuff, Peter usually winged it but it worked. He's still an icon of comedy and satire. Between 1967 and 1978 the BBC routinely and irretrievably deleted archived programmes for spurious reasons really, claiming lack of space, scarcity of materials or no rights for rebroadcasting. Genuine reasons or just BBC censorship, who can say. But we've lost a great deal of our heritage. RIP Pete.

I was at college when Peter Cook died. He was actually younger than I thought he was as his career had been such a long one. I also had no idea his wife had died either.
Cook was an amazing but complicated man. Apparently he could be quite cruel and nasty when the demon drink got the better of him and he supposedly had a love/hate relationship with Dudley Moore too. That bit where you are sarcastic to the woman watching you would have been perfect for one of his snide but funny quips too.
Cook never quite got the career he should have but he was his own worst enemy to some extent. Nevertheless when he was on top form he was brilliant. Comedian Rory McGrath was a good friend of his and has some very very funny stories about Cook (McGrath is an avid Arsenal fan and Cook was a keen Spurs fan so you can make a guess that sarcasm played a big part). Cook also played Richard III in the first series of Blackadder. However he was absolutely hilarious in the 1988 Comic Strip Presents...episode, 'Mr Jolly Lives Next Door'. It's one of the funniest things i've ever seen. To steal a film from his co-stars Adrian Edmondson and the late great Rik Mayall can't be easy, but Cook effortlessly manages to outshine them both in this dark, violent but very funny comedy about a contract killer. Well worth watching if you've never seen it.

Thanks for this . A real comedy legend and Derek and Clive is some of the best comedy to ever come out of the UK

What an intresting churchyard ? Grew up watching Peter Cook and Dudley Moore ( my dad was a fan ) like you say their humour wasnt for everyone but I liked it because it was different . So pleased you found he had a marker and rightly so. Look forward to many more of you presentations they are the best !

    Hello Paulie!!
I've noticed you have a new intro song. I like it.
Yesterday was my 1st ever Live Q&A. By the end of it I was surprised how fast it goes by. That hour just zipped by!
While I was sitting there I was trying really hard to think of something to ask, but I was floored by how many questions you were getting and how fast those questions were coming in. Talk about mental sensory overload! Wow!
The only thing I could think of was your chirping parrot, so I asked about that lol.
About Peter Cook, loved his humor.
Cook was a Kook and I thouroughly enjoy British comedies a lot.
    Thanks Paul for another banger.
    Cheers.
    -Jerry.

It’s very fast on the brain and is sensory overload 😂
