York looks a very nice place to be and as always you both made the visit interesting and fun. That old pub (three tuns) if the walls there could talk! Looking forward to part two!

Great visit to York, it really is a lovely place to visit. Apparently the reason it appears that people died long before reaching old age, is high birth mortality. The average brings down the age right down. Actually many lived long lives, much like today.

Hi Martin and Sharon my mum's side of the family used to live above the shrine in the shambles and I used to stay with my nanna who lived above it over summer holidays she used to open it up and get it ready for the mass on a Saturday and Sunday used to play in the market on a weekend as they didn't have them then couldn't let the bath water out until market closed as it would flood it they shambles used to be a butchers street and the gutters used to be to run all the blood form the meat if you saw some shops had hooks to hang the meat outside the shops windows
St Margaret clitheroe helped priests escape and was stoned to death on a bridge forgotten the name of it if you pop it on u tube will tell you the story and the alley way on the shambles you went down is call whip ma wot ma gate and on the corner was a sweet shop I love York I could of showed you alot of alley ways and short cuts the graves are from people who died from the plague and they didn't move them as they were scared that if they did the plague would return I could go and have walked the wall you do have gaps in it and have to re join in other places

Hi thank you for sharing your trip of York with us I am a York lady born here and you did some lovely views of the attractions in York shame you found some things expensive the Clifford's Tower has been renovated at the cost of 5 Million you now see so much more once in there and the views once you enjoyed the rest are amazing £11.00 when visiting London or Stratford upon Avon , Many places are similar or more expensive than York and I just want people to know you can enjoy York on a tight budget also thank you again for sharing your trip to York...

We went to York and toured the Minster, saw the Roman ruins below the cathedral, and ambled through the Shambles. It was amazing that this was a busy economic, religious and political center, when the city I now live in wasn't even a gleam in a planner's eye.

I've loved watching this! And yep, we'd have had a 'Bacon Banjo' on both trains too! 😋
I keep saying to my husband that "when the dog pegs out*" we'll jump a train for a few days away (mid-week) when the mood takes us. We can get on (at the same station you did!😉) and get to Leeds, York, Harrogate, Newcastle, Durham, and Edinburgh...wherever we fancy.
Talk about "You can take the wo/man out of London..."! We would be exactly the same as you two regarding the cost of entry = its extortionate! But it's all about tourism, which I get. But still very pricey.
Sure you two would have spent a day walking around Lincoln...huffing and puffing your way up gorgeous Steep Hill (or was that just me?!), that looks pretty similar to The Shambles, all the way up to the beautiful Cathedral & Castle. Glad I managed to do a couple of visits to the Lincoln Christmas Market...First year was really cold and wintery, so very atmospheric. Sharon would have loved it!
That 40s Festival (at Woodies??) sounds great.
A good few years ago we went to Bournemouth for the weekend to catch a gig. Think it was around a May Bank Hol as it just so happened that it coincided with a Festival there...Festival of Speed or similar???
We love cars so it was the biggest, best bonus to see these wonderful vintage and prestige cards driving around the town/sea front, especially the old Mk1&2 Cortinas and Norton/Vincent/BSM motorbikes (he love the smell of the old oil/petrol, apparently).
Beat part: it was all free!😂
*I gest: that dog is our life! It'll break our hearts the day he does actually leave us. Hes 7 now, but bet he'll end up being the oldest dog of his breed, knowing our luck😂dog 🐶❤

GARGOYLES were originally used on Gothic churches to ward off the evil spirits. Their gruesome faces were meant to be ugly enough to scare the spirits 👿 Love the tour Sharon and Martin😮 Very well done, interesting and authentic, with great enthusiasm! So much history, it’s amazing. In fact, I was surprised to see all the American tanks, jeeps, etc…brought back a lot of memories for me of when I served in the U.S. Army in Panzer Kaserne which , at that time, was located in W. Germany! So much history in York…amazing! Thank you both so very much for the fantastic tour; so much better than so called tours on TV❣️ You folks make it soooo real, I actually feel as though I’m there in person with you even though it’s virtual. I loved the train journey as well and watching the beautiful English countryside ❤️ You two are THE BEST❤ God Bless❣️

They are only called Gargoyles if they have a spout for water to drain from them. If they are just ugly faces they're called Grotesques!
My husband and I go to York every six weeks or so, and have done for the last 40 years, we bought a 2 bedroomed flat just outside the city walls 35 years ago, which has been much more economical than Hotels would have been. Our flat even has a private parking area, which is very useful as York is a very difficult place to park. Whenever we go to the flat, we park the car up, pop a wheel clamp on it, and spend every day in the city walking!
If you go to York again, book to have an Afternoon Tea at Betty's, it's a sublime experience!
Also, if you want to see another beautiful city, go to Chester, in my opinion, it's better than York, but I'm a born and bred Cestrian (born in Chester) so I would think that!

Hello Martin and Sharon, that was another beauty, we really enjoyed it, York has so much to offer, its been years since we have been, it makes us want to go again.
I love Sharon's resentment on Costa's price for a small cup of coffee, I'm with her, its coffee with yuppie pricing just like starbucks, You should look for Dunkin Donuts coffee, I really like it and its cheaper.
I figured you might go with a second bacon cob on the train, Cant blame you, we would have too.
The room looked nice as it usually does.
It was so nice of you to give Macmaster a mention, We watch all of his episodes too, you should invite him over and take him to the Ragged Apron for you know what.

Those prices are ripping tourists off big time.
For a couple to visit both the Tower and Museum would cost an overall price of £54....extortionate !! 😫
Then charging people to go to the Loo is taking the piss (pardon the pun).
    Thanks for excellent informative video.
I do love the Train journeys the best. 👍❤

We love York spent many a weekend there before Martha was born , in fact I purchased my first Oakley sunglasses from York ( I now have a bit of a collection) and I think I spent my 30th birthday in York I definitely purchased my first expensive treat birthday watch about £200 it was a lot of money for me then. Great look around lovely super interesting buildings great vid as always 👍👍

Nice video. I went to York once with my son last year on a coach trip, had a walk around some places & on bit of the walls, went to see Dick Turpin's grave. Planning to go back to see other parts we didn't go first time.

Nice vlog. Lovely place York but like you say it can be expensive . Richer sounds in Kingston ,popped in there often ,great shop good prices also . Your breakfast looked good .When ever we need to stay overnight we always look for a Premier Inn ,they always seem to have a good deal on . Hope the ankle has got better .mine is the same so i wear a ankle support now .Keep well both of you .

6 pounds for 2 coffees is extremely cheap. I’d be over the moon to pay that.

      Are you joking?
I wouldn't give anything...I take a flask of coffee and sandwiches.
My treat would be a nice cake from a Bakery and that's it.
Being stupid with your hard earned money is your problem.
