  • I couldn't resist Tovala's Black Friday deal of a $50 oven. The catch was I'd have to buy at least 6 weeks worth of their meals. Let's unbox this air fryer oven and cook a meal to see if it's really as great as they say it is.

    I freaking love this oven it sits on top of my microwave perfectly and i only cook for 2 people so it's the perfect size. I live in a small apartment and during the summer when its 88°F-95°F or higher my apartment can reach 110°F-125°F easily so using my gas oven when i get home in the evening is out of the question 😂. One of my favorite features is creating my own menus in the app i don't buy the subscription meals but the 4 days i did try them they were actually very good i paid $150 for the oven and got a $50 coupon towards the meals wich i had to add $11 to get 4 days of meals thats 8 meals that fed 2 people dinner for 4 days, the oven is what i wanted not the meals because this oven is amazing I've made a lot if great meals in it so far and im still excited everytime i try something new, in my honest opinion this oven is worth every penny i paid for it and then some yes its small but what an amazing little oven it is i love it.

    we've had ours for over a year and love it. i will say meals are a bit over priced and some can be hit or miss. but the ones that hit are legit. their steak meals come out surprisingly good (esp the one that comes with a 4 cheese risotto) but the up charge for steak is a bummer. pro tip - if you really like a recipe keep the recipe/barcode and just buy the ingredients on your own. also make sure you're on top of your weekly ordering. meaning you either have them picked or selected 'skip this week' by the weekly deadline or else they send you random meals that may not like.

      I'm tempted to order a steak one just for a video for the novelty of it. I'm really liking the meals so far. I'm sure I'll hit a dud sooner or later but I'm thrilled for now. Gonna lean on their low calorie options a bit over the next few months.

    I just ordered mine. Still waiting for arrival of the new Air Fryer version of the oven, and my first 4 meals are still a week out.
    I'm already feeling a bit of buyers remorse just because their meals feel way too expensive, yet I'm required to buy another 5 weeks worth. It cost me $68 after shipping and tax just for 4 meals. And I'm pretty sure they're single serving only. Right? I think they sell meals that 2 servings, but they cost more. I can't remember.
    I'm actually a pretty good home cook. But I have depression (I won't get in to that lol) and lately I've been finding it very hard to find the motivation cook homemade meals, especially when I'm just doing it for myself now. So after checking out the oven and liking the idea of having it as a countertop kitchen appliance I can use for more than just Tovala meals, I thought why not. Let's try it out.
    Anyway, I hope I don't regret this decision after I get my stuff. I may come back and update this comment after I actually use it and eat the first meal from them to report on how I like it.

    The oven looks pretty nice. It would have been perfect for when I lived alone but I cook for my Mom and I now so wouldn't fit my meal prep. Not thrilled with buying 5 weeks of their meals either but again, on my own, would probably try it. Food looks pretty good too. I'd love to see more meal vids with this oven.

    I just bought one of these for the Labor Day sale- same deal as the Black Friday deal you got.
    I'm so happy the first meal you tried looked and sounded good! Even the cheapest 9.99 meals seem somewhat spendy, but like you said- paying for convenience of a nice home cooked meal is hopefully worth it!
    Since this came out 8 months ago, do you have any updated opinions? Or favorite meals? Did you keep buying them, or stop after you 6 weeks obligation?
    Mine comes next week, and I'm pretty excited to try it out.

      I think I have another updated video, but I’m planning on making another soon. By some stroke of luck, people keep using my referral link on this video. Whenever people use that I order a week of meals. I still love em! The steak is overpriced and the pork chops don’t come out nearly as juicy as the chicken. The chicken dishes are great, that’s my take. It’s overpriced to most but perfect for the right customer.

    Can you use the steam feature without the app?

  • @ItsJustRyansChannel
    @ItsJustRyansChannel ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The title here says "Tovala Air Fryer Oven" which mislead me. This is the original "Pro" model. But they make a newer model that's an "air fryer" version. The 2 biggest differences are the air fryer one (new one) does air frying a lot better. It's better designed to be an actual air fryer. The 2nd big difference is only the "pro" model has a steam mode. Yes, they both do air frying, but the "air fryer model" has a bigger element I believe, better fan, etc. But like I said, it can't steam. Other than that, all the other features are exactly the same.
    So just FYI for those, like me, who were looking for a review of the new version oven. The new oven is also $50 cheaper than the "pro model", apparently just because of the removal of the steaming capability.

    • @PapiEats
      @PapiEats  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry about that Ryan, I’ll rename this in a minute here. Like you said, the new “air fryer” model didn’t exist when I made this video. This model actually sucks at air frying. I’ve got one final video about it dropping in a week or so after I cook this last week of meals I have.

    • @ItsJustRyansChannel
      @ItsJustRyansChannel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PapiEats Yea, I've actually heard that the Pro model doesn't air fry that well. It's basically a feature built in to help better cook Tovala meals with a combo of bake/steam/and fry. But if you wanted to air fry something that's not a Tovala meal then I've heard a lot of people say "good luck" and that it takes longer and your food isn't as crispy.
      It kind of sucks the "new model" doesn't have a steam ability, for veggies and such, but apparently it's better at the air frying for sure.
      Hopefully one day soon you can do a video on that model for folks.

    • @PapiEats
      @PapiEats  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So my first order was $70 after shipping and tax, shipping is always a flat $9.99. I had four meals, one of which cost an extra $7 because it's actually two servings ($9.99 per serving). So I think maximizing the double serving dishes and spreading that shipping cost out over more meals is the way to go. We'll see. I cooked up a teriyaki chicken and broccoli for breakfast while I'm working at home today and it was just as good as last night's chicken and shells. I'm really liking it so far.

      The big sell here is the meal service with the perfectly timed switches between cook modes. The big thing with this one is it steams, so for their meals they can tell this thing when to switch between baking, steaming, and broiling. Works well for that. On your own for other things, it’s more of a crapshoot.

    Papi, what’s goin’ on, brodie?! The reason it needs WIFI is because when you scan a QR code, it needs to contact a database server in order to retrieve the heating/cooking instructions, otherwise those set of instructions would have to be stored locally in memory and would need to be placed in RAM for fast access when it’s booted up. Problem with that is, it wouldn’t be able to get updated recipe heating instructions. You understand what I’m saying to you? As for the meal, meh, it looks decent, but eh, I’ve had better looking chicken parm from some authentic Italian places in Brooklyn/NYC.
