- Picking up from last episode, Alan elucidates faith versus belief, and how our individual existence is connected with the totality of the universe.
This series is brought to you by the Alan Watts Organization and Ram Dass’ Love Serve Remember Foundation. Visit Alanwatts.org for full talks from Alan Watts.
From his houseboat in Sausalito, CA, Alan Watts explores:
The two great myths which underly our Western sense of identity: the Judeo-Christian myth of an overly intelligent universe founded by a cosmic king; and the material myth of a universe which is mechanical, un-intelligent, and empty
The problem of “believing” in God, versus the real attitude of faith which is being open to whatever reality is
Finding out who we are beyond social institutions like time, money, value, language, and survival
How you as an individual implies by your existence everything else in the universe
“The problem about believing in God, incidentally, is that believing is the wrong attitude. Believing is a form of mistrust, because it’s saying, ‘I fervently wish that you exist, and if you don’t, I don’t know what to do with myself.’ The real attitude of faith is not believing, but simply being open to whatever reality is, and to say you don’t know.” - Alan Watts
About Alan Watts:
A prolific author and speaker, Alan Watts was one of the first to interpret Eastern wisdom for a Western audience. Born outside London in 1915, he discovered the nearby Buddhist Lodge at a young age. After moving to the United States in 1938, Alan became an Episcopal priest for a time, and then relocated to Millbrook, New York, where he wrote his pivotal book The Wisdom of Insecurity: A Message for an Age of Anxiety. In 1951 he moved to San Francisco where he began teaching Buddhist studies, and in 1956 began his popular radio show, “Way Beyond the West.” By the early sixties, Alan’s radio talks aired nationally and the counterculture movement adopted him as a spiritual spokesperson. He wrote and regularly traveled until his passing in 1973.

Thank you Muchly Mark
Truly Inspirational ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your father's work and perspective. I know that much of what he shared is taken from different doctrines and beliefs around the world along with his own insights but I believe the way he has combined everything and delivered it is truly outstanding.
Even as a child I felt a connection with everything that I couldn't properly explain to other people. In finding these lectures I feel like I have found a voice and words to explain my own perspectives on existence it's just that they're not coming from my mouth.
I hope all his musings and writings can be properly preserved so that future generations can have access to them.
greatest channel on youtube. thank you for your work and these absolute gems! Fresh new Alan Watts lecture, so cool. was so looking forward to part 2, this is unreal!
Thank you for these.
My thanks as ever. Carry on!
You're amazing
Thank you for sharing 🙏🤍
Yes Papa. I don't have to say. You know it already.
We have not noticed/realized our true selves. The I am. The question now becomes why? What or how have exisiting rules( Institutions) hindered us from realizing our true selves?
Love it. I own a few lecture, but I love I can try them out here first, then by the ones that resonate with me ❤
18:06 "space has no properties" -Nikola Tesla. Space itself is an aspect of a divergent magnetic field, the convergent would be counterspace. The toroid and the hyperbola. Laser interferometry proves we're in an aether vortex, the center of which is the north pole. The aether is the ever present background medium that is permeating space. This understanding explains quantum entanglement, the varying "speed" of light, morphic resonance, and many other phenomena without the pseudoscience theories that has hindered scientific thought for a hundred years.
🩸🙏🏻🫀Im out of the trap🫀🙏🏻🩸
Talks from the 90’s?
I thought your father passed away in 1973..
upaya is solution and upeksha is not in favour of or being critical of something. i am not questioning alan watts knowledge but a lot changes with few meanings.
Please help. I've been trying for years to find a particular speech Alan gave that provided insight into relationships, ownership, control and attachment. He told a joke about a husband, let's call him Mr. Smith who climbed a mountain with the plan to honor his wife and prove his love for her by naming it after her. He ended up naming it Mount Mrs Smith. I've searched and even reached out to your fathers organization to no avail.
Mount Mrs Oswald Tregeniss (followed by his iconic laugh) if i remember correctly 😂 . I know the lecture you're looking for and i came across it a few months back. If i remember the name or come across it again I will post it here 👍🏻
