To be fair, Sosa wasn’t the guy hitting home runs left and right (and may or may not have been juicing) when W traded him. He was just a skinny twenty-year old kid fresh off the boat from the DR, and that inexperience showed. His swung at everything, and even after the trade, it took him a few years to develop better habits (in the season right after it, he had the fourth most strikeouts in the American League). Maybe Rangers management should have been more patient with the guy and/or sent him down to the minors for a while, but it really wasn’t as stupid of a trade as people make it out to be. The Rangers got Harold Baines (a consistent slugger who would have been worth it on his own) and Fred Manique (a decent and proven infielder) in exchange for Sammy Sosa, Wilson Alvarez (another unproven prospect), and Scott Fletcher (a mediocre pitcher nearing the end of his career). Hindsight is 20/20, but it made a lot of sense in the moment.
I don't remember the outrage about Ralphie May saying the N word, and I'm happy about that. Dude clearly grew up poor and white and in the south so you know how that would've been like. + Ralphie always keeps it real and is using it in the correct way as another word for "bro" or "dude" etc so I don't see an issue.
