He’s loose and uninhibited with Clampett, uses more smears and angular poses with Davis, and more conservative with McKimson. And then he used limited animation with great success in the Peanuts TV specials. Bill was a great and highly versatile animator.
Yeah, Bill Melendez went from the wild Bob Clampett style to the reserved limited animated Charlie Brown style shows what a versatile animator bill Melendez was
Surprised the Danny Kaye bit in Book Revue isn't included. Surely that is Melendez's work? At least one of the scenes included here as the work of Bill Melendez looks like the work of Rod Scribner to my eyes (Bugs and Elmer in "The Big Snooze" at 00:58). Bill's work on the McKimson cartoons (as much as he claimed to detest working under Bob's direction) shows a lot of finesse gained after 5 years of intensive experience as an animator. The Elmer and the Hollywood stars down on their luck animation is masterful, and his work on "A Fractured Leghorn" is some of his greatest character animation and acting. Every drawing counted in Bill Melendez's animation.
Danny Kaye bit is most likely done by Robert McKimson (the part he is talking about "bublichkis" and "samovars") and Manny Gould (the part Daffy goes completely insane, while singing Coucaracha). I agree about the "Big Snooze" clip, it's definetely looks much more like Scribner's animation - extended pupils, snappy timing, rapid expressions.
There's great Melendez animation in "Dog Collared" when Porky gets home, shuts the blinds and then the dog appears on television. I actually watched that with Bill and I think he said he didn't do it! Maybe I have it all wrong, but no one in McKimson's unit animated and drew like Melendez did that Porky. In a lot of Bill's animation, you can really spot his work by the drawing of the hands.
Nice seeing more Bill Melendez animation, could you do a remake of your Phil Monroe reel next? I have some suggestions for if you ever decide to remake it again.
Melendez animation is more solid than Tyer's animation. His character acting skills are also much more vivid and elaborate compared to Jim's expressive, but monotonous faces and gestures. Jim Tyer is not a bad animator, he's just not my cup of tea.
Lo voy a poner en español e ingles para los que no lo saben. Bill Melendez NO ANIMO NADA en los especiales de Charlie Brown y Snoopy (Peanuts en INGLES). El fue el DIRECTOR pero no hizo cortes de animacion. I am going to put this in Spanish and English for those who dont know. Bill Melendez DIDNT ANIMATE ANYTHING on the Peanuts specials (The Charlie Brown and Snoopy cartoons in Latin America). He was the director but didnt do any animation cuts.

He Bob Clampett animation that he did is nothing like his Charlie Brown work
You never expected Bill Melendez, who, animated a lot of wild animation to be the Director of the Peanuts specials in the 1960s and 70s
He also voiced snoopy and woodstock too

pretty good analysis on Melendez's work. Lots of Scribner animation style and gimmicks. Good to know Scribner passed some wildness along.
Rod Scribner Went on to work at Bill Melendez productions before his death in 1977
Bill Melendez was Ron Scribner’s assistant and Bill would recruit Rod Scribner in the 1970s before he passed away
5:33 I really like that expressiveness.

I saw pictures of Bill. And he looks like a fine Grampa to me. And he got a nice moustace!
This guy will later become a snoopy director no seriously he also did the voice of snoopy really wild
Whoever created this forgot to add the peanuts cartoons. That was his most important part of bill Melendez
Do you know which scenes from the Peanuts cartoons that he animated?
@@DowntheInkwell in fact he did none lol
Love that sarcasm
@@2idiot2animate28 Except for "It's Spring Traning, Charlie Brown"
I mean... he didn't really do much other than producing the specials and voicing Snoopy and Woodstock.
His wild animation is nothing like the peanut specials he later directed because the animation of those specials is more reserved
Although, the limited animation was part of the Peanuts specials’ charm.
Also TV budgets.
