    Where I live we’ve been going through a massive heat wave. It’s getting close to 40°C outside. When I came home from work today I saw my geckoes tank was at 86. He seemed to be really lethargic(which is not like him at all) and he was breathing differently. This video helped me drop his temperature from 86 to 79 in less than 30 minutes. Because of this video you saved my Cresties life. Once the heat dropped in his tank his breathing went back to normal and he’s no longer lethargic.

    3:54 open the water bottle. Evaporation has a cooling effect.

    Ive been putting freezer packs on top of my crestie's terrarium every few hours for the past two days when I see it at about 80/26.7 and I cover up the half of the screen its on with some cloth or plastic and see the temp average at 75/23.8 which is nice to see.
    On top of that, I just added moss and with twice misting the terrariun daily, the humidity in the terrarium is rather high which causes a lot of condensation on the freezer pack and allows for a makeshift dripper and maintains the humidity very well.
    the humidity may be too high but Id rather have the high humidity with a reasonable temperature, Ill just clean the tank thoroughly once the heat wave dies down a bit to get rid of any potential fungus or mold. Its only been about 2 days so far.
    Im also really iffy on handling my crestie right now because on top of the heat, if the doors are open while the ice pack is on, the cool air escapes easily, and I also tend to have very very warm hands. I do poke around in the tank to find Gallan though to make sure he is still active and doing well.
    I dont know if Im over-worrying as I am really new to this (aside for watching a lot of your videos and looking up basic care sheets) but Id rather overworry than underworry and something go wrong.
    any thoughts or suggestions on all this?

    Another, fairly easy thing to do is to put a floor tile or scrap square of granite in the tank! it always stays much cooler than the outside. I have used this for small mammals and reptiles living in southern california

    My terrarium is too high to make a difference on their temperature so I just freeze big bottles of water and put one on top of their moist hides and keeps it at around 70* and they love it for hot days and they shed so fast and easy too. I change the bottle twice a day, the hides aren’t freezing, they get wet on top on the roof and then evaporate so keeps it more humid too. Has been my savior for the summer, couldn’t find a solution anywhere online so thought to just try it out and it’s been months and works perfectly! Glad to see you’re doing the same or similar💙

    Try adding a cooling stone to the enclosure your pet can lie on. You want to use something that's easy to clean and having two for rotation will allow you to keep one refrigerated while one is in the enclosure. Marble is the best material (which is why chefs use it to keep pastry cool as they work with it) but kitchen or bathroom wall tiles work well too.

    Im from London, I could do with 30c+ from time to time.. Anyways the method I use is a usb fan, basically a small compact square fan the same they use for marine fish to cool the tank.. set it on a timer & wallah its like a small square tile shaped box :)

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Right now my ac is out so I have a portable ac and a fan both at Max in my room and my leopard gecko tank is at 79-82 degrees and he’s chilling in his water bowl and going into his humid life from time to time and he’s also still staying in his warm hide meaning I’m guessing he’s ok since he’s a desert animal but the tank usually stays 69-75 degrees with the ac on so I just put a ice pack on top and hoping it gets cooler and makes the humidity go down bc the humidity is at 70% so we’ll see but it’s supposed to get fixed tomorrow so I reckon he will be ok and he’s pooping perfectly fine

    Are window-mounted air conditioning units not popular where you live? They're very inexpensive, I'd figure they would be a good investment. (I live in the southeast US, though, and it gets up to 100°F here almost daily, so some form of A/C is necessary in every house.)

AT NIGHT WHEN SHE GETS ACTIVE I PUT HER BACK IN HER TANK BUT I THINK WHILE SHE IS IN HER TANK I MIGHT PUT A COLD BOTTLE OF WATER IN HER TANK LIKE YOU SUGGESTED OR AN ICE PACK ON TOP OF THE BANK.

My mum told me that I could get another tank and another gecko,but is okay if I could slowly introduce my geckos to another female? P.S. my other 3 are sisters and get along so do you think they'll get territorial? Just checking before I add another leo.

      The tank's fine. You can try introducing another female, but make sure they're all about the same size and you have a backup tank.

    Nice video! I have a question, I have I believe an 8x6 inch heat pad on one side of my tank, and my gecko doesn't seem to use it... is it because my gecko is just fine or...? because she used to always use her hear mat, it isn't too hot or too cold it is just fine but yeah thanks for the video

    • @evangibeau4489
      @evangibeau4489 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may be too hot in the tank, but every gecko is different. Your gecko should be fine, one of my geckos only uses the cool side in the summer, and the warm side in the winter.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      it may be too hot, are you using a thermostat with it?

    • @Luke-cp2jz
      @Luke-cp2jz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Her cages normal temp is 75-77 degrees farenheight normally. I don't think it would be too hod

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luke The Vampire Slayer what about the reading directly on the heat mat? I use a thermometer with a probe, because it will read the temp of what my geckos have to lay on.

    Dear LeopardGeckoTalk
    I have a lovely baby leo called Echo which i got not so long ago i was holding him when i started to worry if his tail was getting thicker do you now how wide the tail is supposed to be at four months and how long until it should be fully grown? As a leo owner who has experienced the growth of a gecko i wondered weather you would know.
    Although i do not have a terrarium i will note these for when i do get one in the future.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, I think each gecko varies, but I find with babies the tail doesn't always full fill out until they're juveniles or even adults, for example I didn't notice Ziggys really fill out until she was a year - year and a half. It wasn't that it was thing, it just didn't have that signature plump leopard gecko look.

      It's best to wait at least a few days before interacting with your gecko, so they can get used to their environment.

    We just got hit by a sudden change in weather, it's dropped about 10C outside! (It's about 5C cooler inside) Will you be doing a 'keeping your geckos warm in the winter' video? I'm unfortunate enough to not have indoor heating (long story), or terribly good insulation, so my girl is going off her heat mat alone, if anyone else would also like to answer, would a ceramic heat emitter be a good option? I've tinfoiled her warm side for now.

    • @fionashepley478

      definetly use the ceramic heat emitter to raise the temperature of the enclosure. use a 50 watt if your tank is 13-17 inches tall.

    I'm purchasing a leopard gecko very soon (he's picked out, just waiting to be paid for and he is being shipped in a few days:D ) and his terrarium is all set up, but I just checked the temperatures and its 96 degrees on the hot side. The cool side is doing well, staying at about 72 degrees. How can I cool down my hot side? I want to get this figured out before the gecko comes, as i don't want him being too warm. Can anyone help me? How do I get the temperature to a more appropriate range?

      it can take ages, I tend to make it up a few weeks in advance now, so that it will dry out as much as possible. you can always buy it pre-made and dry. But for now, if it keeps creating too much condensation, wipe down the walls and roof twice a day, that should remove some of the moisture.

    Great Video! Any names for a male crested gecko and a female crested gecko?

    • @emilydunlea1519
      @emilydunlea1519 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hecate is the ancient Greek goddess of magic, I'd like that name for a female. If you're interested in Pokémon, you could name the geckos Dragonite, Charmander, Deino (which happens to be the Greek for "terrible", Deino-Saur meaning "terrible lizard" even though dinosaurs weren't lizards)

    • @erinbarbera1981

      Im very much into different more abstracts names like Artemis, the greek goddess but for a male, Forrest because thats my gecko. But ik not alot of people like the same names as me but these are just some more suggestions
      Female:
      Misty- bc you mist crested geckos
      Rain- because they live in the Rain Forrest
      Artemis- a dark colored gecko
      Mila
      Male:
      Forrest- bc they live in the RainForrest (but spelt with two rs)
      Apollo- another dark colored gecko
      George
      Leafy- like the youtuber and because they live in the trees

    Hi Rebecca! I hope you're reading this :). I have a female crested gecko. I had it for a few months now but recently I've realized that she is sleeping and spending most of her time on the glass walls. Is that a bad thing? Also I've noticed that she is getting a little more aggressive :( . I'm doing everything I can to spend more time with her. Also should I bring her outside (in my backyard in a box with holes so she can breath)?

    • @emerodiste7099
      @emerodiste7099 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a crested gecko for about a year now so I guess I can answer your question for you. I wouldn't be worried about her being out and on the walls. My crested gecko does that sometimes. Letting her outside is the question that's going to be the hardest for me to answer. I don't take my gecko outside just because he is was to jumpy and will always be. If yours is chill go ahead and take her out, but I would do it in an open space because these guys can be quick. I will also do it where there can be nothing that can harm them. If you have her in your hand that's fine. I hope I answered your question. If not ask and I will love to help you out.

      I wouldn't take her outside. The glass thing is totally normal. And not sure about the aggressive thing, have you tried feeding her a few live insects here and there, so she can use that energy on something positive?

    • @jeremyweremy
      @jeremyweremy 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leopard Gecko i have tried to feed her tiny crickets, but she didnt like them. she also doesnt like the pangea insect mix, but i have tried to put 70 percent the banana one and 30 percent insect mix. She likes it that way. Thanks for the reply.
