      LydiaLPS34 That would be a perk, until you look at the prices of them. They’re extremely overpriced and the build quality of the terrarium and products in general is just bad and not made well.

      LydiaLPS34 the price is insane for the cost. Buy a tank off of craiglist. I got a 48 by 18 by 18 tank for 100 dollars. At the stores near me, that is 180~200 dollars

    I once purchased a massive preformed concrete hide that was probably 1ft wide 1ft long and 8in high. Geckos liked varied smaller hides and this had three openings that made her feel vulnerable. she never used it. Hated IT! *English accent*

    When I first got my leopard gecko I bought a cricket keeper tbh. The problem I had with them is the slits in the lid were too big so the crickets were able to escape, so I put tape over most of the slits, and because of this plus the lack of room the crickets died quickly. I found that using a big plastic tupperware container with holes in the lid worked much better and they lived for a while.

    Worst product for me was a large surface area water supply, when I used it in my gecko's cage, it created a natural condensation on the top of the cage that consistently made the eco earth get moldy when it dripped back down. I had to use paper towels every morning to clean up excess water. Now I use it as a big feeding dish

    Loved this video! Very helpful! I was considering adding a drainage layer to my crested gecko's vivarium so I will definently buy that fleece mat you reccomended! One product to never buy: exo terra dripper plant. I dont know about other people's experiences with this product, but my dripper plant has many problems. It gets clogged, it makes way to much noise, it sometimes takes hours to turn on and the artificial leaves are hard to position into the right place. The leaves are also very hard to clean. I never saw my crestie drink from it and now I just use it as a decoration.

    One of my biggest regrets has been buying the Wipe Out ZooMed terrarium cleaner. It says to drench the glass in it, wait 5 minutes, and then wipe it. 1. In order to even wet a whole terrarium you are using so much and 2. It dries within seconds? It didn't even clean that well, and they charge quite a bit for a small thing too.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ah that sucks :/ yeah i know the exo terra one said a certain time to leave it on for, but i always leave it on a bit longer and it does a pretty good job :)

      TigerSwipes for my cresties, I used to use tap water but noticed the calcium stains, whenever I clean the tank I use water and a razor to scrape the marks off

    • @TigerSwipes
      @TigerSwipes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leopard Gecko Yeah, may need to try the one you recommended. It dries so fast that you can't even clean with it. Figured it would be good for its price and size but nope.

    • @TigerSwipes
      @TigerSwipes 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      joker Airsoft That's a good point about the scraper. I used to just use water, but had to keep traveling back and forth to our sink to do much of anything. I'll need to find a new way to do that haha.

    So I know that a lot of people use UVB with their leos, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm even one of those people that say if your leopard gecko does not hunt and accepts worms from tongs, you can keep them on sand if you're crazy enough.
    BUT I have found an easier and far cheaper alternative to UVB lights. Most leos will intuitively learn, even if they've never done it before, to go out at night and lap up calcium powder/multivitamins from a dish. It's the coolest thing, they somehow know that whatever's in the dish is good for them. I've had great success with it, and so has a few friends who recently got leos for the first time.
    Just a neat leo hack I found.

    I have this shop near me where I got my Leopard gecko (the one on my icon) and the products they sold are amazing, I loved them. But the animals in the shop were healthy, well until you went into Th back of the shop...the animals were unhealthy and skinny, adult Leopard geckos were kept in lunchboxes and snakes were in far too small vivariums. I took home my gecko and she loved her new hone and she seemed releived to be in a new home

  • @sageexotics1589
    @sageexotics1589 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a large cricket keeper and go through crickets rather quickly so I find the cricket keeper quite useful, I put some calcium powder in a ziploc bag and shake a tube it there, give the bag a shake, and take out my crickets with tweezers or dump them in a dish depending on who’s getting their dinner.

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sage Exotics what about multivitamins? I’d dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings, they don’t need it every feeding.

      I’m giving them to my cresties and a garg, their vitamins are in their Pangea, but ever other feeding I add multivitamin to the mix. My beardie gets multivitamins with her mix.

    I had trouble with the Zoo Med reptile rock combo dishes. I think I got a small but they worked horribly for me. I thought I could use them for my mealworms and was so happy when I saw none in the bowl I had put in my tank, I thought my gecko (who was new at that time) had eaten! But it turns out the mealworms were just crawling out and hiding in the tank! Way too shallow for feeder insects, I ended up getting a cheap food bowl with a curved rim from Petco which works great. Don't waste your money!

    I instantly regretted buying one of those cheap analog humidity readers. I put it in my crested geckos tank and it came with sticky tape. I didn't bother with that cause I was afraid that it would fall off because of the humidity. So I put it on the Pangea acrylic food ledge. When I first put it in, it read 99. I thought is was broken because it was in the afternoon and I only mist in the evening and very lightly in the morning. Apparently, it WAS broken and it stays at 99 . Still have to this day in a cabinet and its still at 99. Lol. That was a really long comment

      Is it calcium sand? If it is, it MUST be removed! Normal sand can be used safely if you keep the Leo healthy. Tell your parents that pet stores don't give good advice. Eco earth is actually cheaper since you only have to change it every six months. Hope this helps!

      Every Kritter Keeper I had that I was using to gut load crickets for my Bearded Dragon, somehow wouldn't keep the kritters in the keeper! Me being afraid of bugs would wake up to feed my Beardie only to find my cat pouncing on numerous rougue crickets that managed to escape. My cat was happy, but I was NOT! The product itself is a nice concept but obviously a flaw within it's design. They need to go back and start over maybe? Thank goodness now, my local pet store here in U S sells their crickets pre gut loaded so my newly acquired Leopard Gecko should be a happy and healthy camper, and make me more at ease as well. Good vid, btw. Also, a quick question plz. I have a UV light. Will it be OK until I get I get a UVB ? I am very confused about properly lighting and gettung Manson's temp to par. Do I even need a heat or basking lamp if he/it has an UTH? The temp is only around 78 degrees, and I fear that is too cold. Right now I have the Zoo Med Day/Night Desert Lighting Kit which includes a 75 watt Nocturnal Infrared Heat Lamp and a 75 watt ReptiBasking Spot Lamp. Manson is just a little fellow, I purchased him from my favorite pet store and he seems to be adjusting well considering my ignorance, even tho I've tried to do as much researc h before getting him. I'm just an overly concernced new Gecko mom with OCD. I need some advice fast as I am very attached to this new guy and he already appears to recognize me. Recommended heat mats in US? My under tank 1s always seem to unstick after a period of time & I don't have experience with any in tank 1s yet...

    Where do you find a good magnet-canopy feeder? My nearest pet shop only has the sticky ones...
    I got mine supported by a branch atm so hopefully it won't fall.

    Ugh! About a quarter of a year ago, I got my first reptile (an albino leopard gecko, I adopted him from a family that had him for over two years), I went to my local pet shop and they said that the cricket keeper thingy works amazingly and so many people have it, so I bought it. I paid nearly $30 for it (or close to 22£) and I used it once! The crickets had no space and died in less than a week! Now it just sits in my room with absolutely no purpose. I don't even feed him crickets anymore, I changed his diet over to super-worms which I keep in the container they come in. I've never regretted buying an item more than that stupid cricket keeper.

      yeah those things are just useless and its easier to just pick up the insects with your hands rather than the tubes lol. I would suggest offering a bit more variety in the way of food though, i offer super worms/morio worms only once in a while as they're not really healthy for them, but good as part of a varied diet :)

    A couple of months ago I bought the Komodo infrared bulb for my Sulcata tortoise. It was working fine until it just blew up. I wouldn't really recommend Komodo products

    Yes, I made the mistake of buying a cricket keeper, they don't last even a day 😕

      Dealsiraye Washington Yea I just got one. And I only get 20 a time. My baby eats 4 or 5 a day. So only need to last less than a week.

    I don't have any geckos but I love your channel! I do want a gecko but I don't have the money at the moment (I'm 14 and I don't have a job). I can currently pay for my bearded dragon, my snake, and my dog with money I get from holidays and my birthday.

    We were given a heating rock along with our rescue geckos. However, we were told to never use it because it can burn them?! So is it just because it's a rock? Or why are the heating pads better? Do they go under sand?

    Hey please I need to know. Is it okay that I keep my heat mat on from 7am to 10pm at 88F. I'm confused if I should keep it on longer or since my house is around 72F at night is that warm enough for my leopard gecko?

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i keep mine on all day and night, but i use a thermostat so the mat is set at about 90oF all the time.
