  • Cheap, Fast, Good. Pick two - or at least that used to be the case. I think we're overcomplicating gear a bit, because this Super35/APSC lens is more than capable of doing a whole lot more than you think.

    I love this lens! I have been using it for a month and it is amazing for street photo. Since I got it I barely change it. I love the picture, sharpness and it's size. It's true bargain!

    i have a ttartisan 27mm f/2.8 and i love it. the 40mm equivalent is infinitely versatile and i can get just about everything i want in frame. It's sharp enough wide open and very capable stopped down, also wide open the background goes swirly and there is heavy vignetting around the edges. my plan for the lens was a maximally compact setup, but it evolved into a filter setup because the original filter thread is tiny and looks stupid, but stepping up to 58mm is only 2 adapter rings so it has been very useful for that.

      Nice! TTArtisan have really upped the game lately

    The problem I have found often with these lenses are that the numbers on the focusing scale are not accurate. For instance, if you set it a a marked distance, say 2 feet. Then set an object at two feet from the focal plane of the camera and it will not be in off, sometimes by a large amount. Don’t know about this lens, but a lot of these manual focus lenses from China have this problem.
    It is hard to scale focus and shoot from the hip because of this.

      Just tested my copy with a tape measure - at 1m from the focal plane to a target, the distance scale reads 2m. So yeah the distance scale is completely useless as it turns out - interesting that they seem to get it so wrong!

    Loved the video, and I shoot M43, so if you say this is equivalent to a 40mm in FF, probably is like a 20mm in M43, for which I have just bought the Panasonic 20mm 1.7
    But I'm definitely after some "less quality lenses" for a more vintage-y look in street photography, so with a low price I would definitely not discard it!
    Keep up the great work!

      Bang on - this would be a 50mm equivalent on MFT. What are you shooting at the mo, GH5/6? Thanks :)

      @@huntercreatesthings ah! Since you said 40 (or maybe I heard wrong) and MFT is half, I thought it was 20 in MFT.
      I had a Lumix G7 for several years (that I still have) with the kit lens and the great 25mm 1.7.
      This year I got myself two Olympus. E-M5 III first and then the PEN-F just because it's so beautiful. I started trying to do street with them.
      Enjoying it so far, but quite hard for me to photograph people since I'm too shy and self aware still. So I also try to do more architecture/interesting light/colors combo.
      But apart from that, I'm really enjoying very much the time I spend learning and getting inspired in YT from people like you.

      I don't have access to an S23, but you can 100% make great videos with one. Focus on storytelling, lighting, and great sound. Thanks!!

      Lighting is key, you can get amazing shots, but if the phone cranks up the iso its not gonna look good, grab some
      Old lamps or some leds of amazon and youre golden ✨

      bring down the exposure compensation by half a stop or so. all phone photos look the same because phone makers think bright = good. try shooting raw and playing around with a raw editor, you can put together a preset to put on all photos you take. all those things aside, work on composition because no matter the camera, that always stays the same

    Looks great! Especially for the price. Wonder how it stacks up to the TT Artisans 25mm🤔

    • @huntercreatesthings
      @huntercreatesthings  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Right?! The TTartisans is probably similar - I haven't used the 25 but the ones I have used have been a lot "cleaner" than this

    Credible summary of pros/cons and compromises. As you mentioned, it’s manual focus. Not mentioned, but what I gather from the link (correct me if I am wrong) - no e-contacts means no EXIF data to camera; also not weather sealed. Part of the trade-off.
    I love pancake lenses. Would you classify this one as a pancake lens?

    • @huntercreatesthings
      @huntercreatesthings  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Correct - no weather sealing, no data connection. For most of what I would use this lens for I won't miss either honestly. It's slightly taller than a pancake but it's so skinny that it makes up for it - it's about half the size of one of those tiny cans of soda they give you on planes

    Their full frame 35mm 1.4 is also pretty good for the price.

    I'm starting to wonder if anyone are doing EF mount lenses anymore or if it's a dead mount. :/

    • @huntercreatesthings
      @huntercreatesthings  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately it's slowly fading away from the mainstream with fewer and fewer cameras coming out in EF - the good news is that there's still some awesome glass available!
